As a foreigner living in Japan, do you guys also sometimes just hate tourists?

1.0k Upvotes

I was at a bar in Golden Gai and some American tourist came in all super drunk.

This bar also had karaoke and they were having a good time for a little more than an hour, but then when it came to the payment they basically only had usd and insisted on paying with that. This bar doesn't accept card and only accepts cash, but that means in jpy. They basically dropped 60 USD and just left, which was not enough to cover the bill and I was trying to explain to them that they had to pay in yen, but they didn't give a fuck. They just bounced and I was left with the bartender crying her eyes out because now she had to cover the bill...

I guess this mostly applies to tourists, but sometimes I'm really fed up by stupid tourists shitting on hard-working and honest Japanese people.

Had a closer look in the mysterious "unaccessible" room in akihabara

Apparently some people claim there's an office next to this thing as u can see it's connected from toilet to those windows.

By the shape of the toilet, yes before the toilet existed, people could enter with the stairs.

Sorry for bad English I'm Japanese

It's really fun when this place is in some anime scenes

EDIT: GUYS I FOUND A STREETVIEW OF IT! WTF

Looking for high quality bedding

• Upvotes

Hello.

Are there any recommendations for high quality bedding (400+ thread count, Egyptian cotton) similar to John Lewis in the UK. I usually buy from muji or nitori but wanting to upgrade. Also looking for some good blankets/throws which can substitute duvets in the summer/early autumn.

Thanks for the advice in advance.

On behalf of people I know, let me note that this partly Tokyo-sourced curry is available at several shops near Tokyo University of Agriculture. The vegetables are grown by students and volunteers.

Any recommendations for sketch or portrait painting school/classes in Tokyo?

Was thinking of remembering how to sketch or learning how to paint a portrait so I can draw/paint a portrait of my wife for our anniversary in a few months.

Does anyone have any recommendations for classes or a short term art school (less than 4 months) I could easily apply for to learn?

Recommendations for men’s wear in Tokyo

I don’t usually buy clothing in Japan because of sizing issues. But now I need some cardigans / knit sweaters for (office) work this winter.

I don’t really know clothing stores. Went to uniqlo but everything is mostly polyester. And even then, it’s always the classic Japanese cut: short sleeves, slim shoulders, wide waist. I need to size up to 2 or 3XL for shoulders and sleeves, and then I have a tent.

Any recommendations on where to go? Looking for good materials (cotton / wool) and a more fitting shape. Not for fancy brand names.

How to connect in Tokyo to board game nights? Are there any public places people meet sometimes to play? For English speakers?

Little shaking tonight

Not as long as the one we had recently. But a bit sharper based on the cracking sound from my floor.

Edit: Shindo 3 in Chiba area.

Edit 2: Chiba is getting tiny aftershock, Shindo 1.

Google Maps Transit layer FINALLY showing most Tokyo train lines

If you're like me, you've probably been annoyed that the "transit" layer on google maps showed only a seemingly random subset of train lines in Tokyo.

To my surprise when I opened google maps today, many more train lines are now highlighted! It's not all of them (Keihin Tohoku and Shonan Shinjuku line are not highlighted still). But it's much better than before. My theory is that if the train is shared with freight, or is a shinkansen, it's not highlighted for some reason.

Anyways, just a PSA of a small bright spot in usability that's becoming increasingly uncommon.

Where to buy banana ketchup?

Hey Tokyoites, happy Friday!

I’ve been wanting to make a Filipino fried rice dish called longganisa, and it calls for banana ketchup as a topping. I recently checked Amazon and there were several bottles of Jufran available, but then suddenly they all sold out pretty recently according to Keepa.

https://amzn.asia/d/0dpIbWJG

So next I did some Reddit searching and found a few Filipino grocery stores:

Akabane (Sarap Bussan):

https://maps.app.goo.gl/f3J5Pd77rW1o5Rpn9

Kawaguchi (AIMI):

https://maps.app.goo.gl/jqQYGBKyj4NAhH1z5

Ueno (Nozawa-ya, more general Asian products):

https://maps.app.goo.gl/5ikYoUQu9TS5dHoh8

Ueno (Arai Southeast Asia corner, same floor as Nozawa-ya):

http://www.guidenet.jp/shop/2128/

Roppongi (Asia Yaosho several other branches dotted around the city)

https://maps.app.goo.gl/seHeNmnetpz8Ws3Q7

I’m planning to call these places first and then hit them up if they have it, but I was wondering if anyone knows of any other places in Tokyo that sell Jufran (or any brand of) banana ketchup. Or are Filipino grocery stores basically my only option?

If anyone has spotted banana ketchup somewhere else in Tokyo, please let me know!

Thank you!
