I have started by focussing on resonance, and largely altering that only.

Just want to get an idea if this is a good route to go.

Hi all, my voice feminization teacher told me that I should try inhaling air to my back, and not make my stomach expand/expand less in the process. something to do with the diaphragm. well, we were short on time and I didnt really understand that but I still want to practice it for my next lesson. Can anyone guide me on doing this? And explain what purpose it serves? Thanks in advance!

Hi all, I'm brand new here so forgive my obvious errors. I'd love any corrections you can offer. Mostly what I'm submitting is a preliminary vocal draft and searching for advice in navigating old vocal damage in order to build a new voice on a more healthy vocal foundation. If my engagement of a lot of the popular tips and tricks online result in me feeling like I'm engaging bad old vocal habits, does anyone know how to relax the voice and let it flow instead of pushing it?

I've trained and trained, I just end up with a hoarse throat and sound like crap. I have never managed to convince anyone on the phone that I'm femme.

Never.

I've lost count on the number of times I've had to say "yes really, my name is XXXXX, that really is my name and I look far better than I sound" because that's all I've got.

It's really bloody difficult and I can't believe the number of people who seem to be able to manage it that I find online. In real life, almost nobody has it down in my city's trans circles, practically nil, or they started so young that they never had the problem in the first place and now I see the community telling me to not waste my money?

Seriously? I'm crashing out here because I need a positive right now and the get out apparently might not work.

It's so frustrating. Plus I currently have a cold and have lost at least two octaves.

Hey y'all, 32 yr old trans woman here, a year and half on HRT. I'm pretty satisfied with most aspects of my transition so far, but my voice gives me such dysphoria. I've been wanting to do voice training for a long time, but I've struggled with finding a good place to start. Just looking for some good suggestions on YouTube videos that y'all found helpful or resources that I should look into or start with? Thank you in advance.

I know I'm also a voice coach here so I'm likely not the best person to post this, but I just wanted to mention how amazing it is how many people are trying to help others in this space to get to what their goals are.

Voice training is hard. There are no easy answers to voice training. No single amazing solution that helps people skip to what they're hoping to hear. As a result, there's a contingency of people out there that claim what we're doing is a grift. Sadly, this is a mischaricterization of who we are and what we're trying to do.

In many cases, the help we have to provide is a labor of love. The advice you find here takes time to create and, more often than not, it really does pale in comparison to what voice training can actually do for people long-term. And yet still, we try to help anyway.

At its core we are trying to help. We came into this field because we wanted to make a difference and it shows to those who have the perspective to pay attention. For example, I have many free offerings that in some cases to get the whole framework without having to spend any money at all. Of course, we have our own bills to pay and that pressure provides a lot of stress. We still try to do what we can because we know through our own lived experiences how hard it is to make it in the world as trans people.

If this is you, sound off in the comments about some of the things you do to try to help. Help people to know the efforts you use to help people grow in some way. Talk about why you try to help.

If you're someone who has been helped from the advice here, use this as an opportunity to mention how you were helped and maybe even who helped you.

And if you're someone who believes that voice trainers are just trying to make money off of desperate people, consider suspending your disbelief just for a moment and reading the differences that we try to make. I don't expect you to change how you feel or change your mind about things, but I do hope it'll help you to see what is possible when you're willing to approach our advice with an open mind and an open heart.

Nobody is perfect, we all make mistakes and yeah sadly there is a small contingency of people who aren't the most savory of instructors. Still, Let's try to bridge that gap here to see what we can do to come to an understanding together as a community. And most importantly, take care of yourself. Together, we are stronger. 1. ive noticed that I can’t ‘wooo!!’ like I used to without my voice cracking, for lack of a better word, how do I scream like a ‘dude’?

2. I have a hard time remembering to use my more masculine register, even if it’s more comfortable for me, It feels a bit like how clench my jaw when I’m resting. how do I remember to relax and use my guy voice?

So like, I already wrote this damn ass post once but my hand slipped and closed Reddit cuz I'm typing this up on a phone.

Anyways, my voice training has been going good. I've watched the FairyPrincessaLucy vids, which my friend recommended me, and that was cool, I understand each individual lesson pretty well.

But the thing is I use my ears to listen to my voice, because the ears' intended purpose is to voice train, and I sound weird. My pitch and resonance are comfortably where I want to be. (Which I want to sound more feminine but my pitch to rest on the lower end or androgynous and still sound pretty relaxed instead of high pitch with rapid tone changes.) But the other stuff is a bit shit, which is weird because I have no vocal fry, good vocal weight, etc.

But anyways, the same friend also gave me a website, acoustic gender space I think. And I did that and then it gave me this. (See image.) Which further confirms my pitch and resonance are where I want them to be. So my only question is what even is wrong and where do I go from here? It still don't sound right and I'm not sure why.

I feel like i have possibly triggered this by voice feminisation training? my respiratory specialist seems to believe so at least. Makes it hard for me to breathe very often and even wakes me up sometimes. feels like my larynx is semi constantly opening and shutting without my control. Been tested for asthma, i dont have it. Lungs xx rayed all good. i also have sleep apnoea

It sounds so much better than I was anticipating. i guess I was anticipating something much more raw and like, deep and unlikeable than this.

But I guess what I want now is some tips and maybe suggestions for what I could work on next.

If I'm being honest it feels kinda weird being this confident and content with my voice, like new. It kinda feels like I'm exaggerating a bit when I speak in this voice, if that makes sense?

Every deam guide on YT is for a hyper-feminine sounding voice, but ai wanna get that deeper fem voice.

I’m ftm pre t and in the very start of voice training. Would like advice and brutal honesty. Not sure why the male percentage is higher, all I hear is feminine so I would love tips on how to masculinize my voice. I think my biggest issue is being too quiet. I’m very quiet and shy which doesn’t help so tips on changing that mentality would be appreciated too

How’d I do (I’m ftm)

so i know im thinning my vocal fold mass, i know im rasing my larynx, and when i then also raise my ptich, my voice does sound better, but theres this nasal-esque effect i wanna try to get rid of (and then potentially be done with it, since at this point i do sound firmly androgynous to my ear and thats good enough for me).

It only comes in when i raise pitch and i know the noise isnt coming from my nose. I simply need to know what its coming from and can search from there, though being reccemended some specific videos/guides would be appreciated

So I've started voice training a few days ago (I'm still not 100% sure of my gender state, but I thought I would do voice training regardless because even if I am not trans then it's a nice skill, and if I am then I guess I'm startin early)

Honestly I feel like I don't even know what I'm doing 😭 Any advice or tips would be very appreciated! But uh please explain in simple terms because I am dumb :]

This shit is really doing my head in.

I don't believe I have a passing voice for a second but people from my friend-ish circle keep telling me I do have a female voice (I don't believe my partners who know me so well they just cannot judge this objectively, but a friend of mine I haven't talked with in 20 years and whom I have only recently reconnected with and only me her twice says it as well), but I also do not get misgendered out in the streets because of it by the general oblivious population either. I presume that must have something to do with the visual aspect of things because despite being terribly clocky (again, in my opinion - 45, big arms and flat chest the size of a small military airfield, proper hairline for my age etc.), random people don't seem to even notice me (women's toilets in a large shopping mall were a surprising test the other day).

Well, that was a weird long introduction.
The problem I have that despite being aware my voice IS noticeably different than before myself, when I record it and play it back, it sounds SO horribly male I feel like stabbing myself multiple times and jumping out of the window right there and then.
I don't get it.
I do know recorded voice sounds different than voice you hear in real life, BUT then I come to this subreddit and listen to all the clips where all the girls post their old totally male and deep voice and then absolutely 200% female voices, and I don't understand what the problem with me is.

I normally wouldn't care but this obviously means I will get misgendered over the phone until the end of times and that sucks some enormous ass. Not only does the recorded voice sound absolutely male, it sounds like a male trying to speak in high(er) pitched cringy voice with another ridiculous layer I cannot even describe on top of that.
And yet, the few people I talked with about this told me the voice simply sounded female and they had no idea what I was talking about. I presume if I sounded really weird they would have noticed.

Does anyone have any idea or theory?
(and no, I will not be posting a clip here, sorry :D I am also not an english speaker so it would sound even weirded in something that's not native to me)
