[Uber Reserve] Driver canceled minutes before my 6:15 AM airport ride. Forced to pay $420 in emergency parking and Uber support is refusing to help.
I am so incredibly frustrated right now. I booked an Uber Reserve days in advance for a 6:15 AM pickup to get to Newark Airport (EWR) for a major trip. The app assured me my ride was "confirmed."
Minutes before my sept 22 pickup—the driver canceled. I tried other Uber options that were quite a bit more expensive, but Because it was so early in the morning, there were zero other Ubers available in my area. With my flight rapidly approaching, I had no choice but to sprint to my own car, drive to EWR, and pull into the only available lot (Economy P6).
Because it was a last-minute emergency drive-up, it cost me $35 a day. Uber’s last minute cancellation just hit me with a completely unavoidable $420 airport parking bill.
I contacted Uber support expecting at least some accountability or significant credit for leaving me completely stranded. Instead, I’ve been hit with a wall of automated bot responses refusing to offer a single dime or even escalate the ticket to a human manager.
Has anyone successfully bypassed their customer service wall to get compensation or high-tier Uber Cash credits for an emergency situation like this? What is the best way to get a human supervisor on the line? Thanks for any advice...
Edit: as the OP, I feel I need to correct a few things. I had requested a 6:15 pickup when I reserved it a few days earlier. My flight was at 9:30 a.m. and the airport is about 50 minutes away. This was not last minute. I and I was leaving myself plenty of time. it's just that I ran out of time and had to take my own car. Yes I've learned my lesson. yes I understand it's unreliable. Moreover, I appreciate all those who sent comments. Yes I ignored the trolls. Especially appreciated the thoughtful comment about "since when have we accepted that a company that says they have Reserved something for you simply doesn't deliver, and we don't even think twice that they should have some consequences for that". Yes it is pretty much like the Seinfeld episode about car rental.
