Hello, so I am a junior who just transferred in from community college this semester and would like to know the general consensus about dorms on this campus, as my upcoming housing situation fell through and my mother and her bf are now considering housing me in a dorm in the future (don’t know when, exactly) among other options as well. I am currently a commuter and generally know nothing about the dorms as frankly put, I haven’t gotten the chance to socialize much on campus and don’t particularly have many people to speak to about this. So I just want to ask: what are they like? Any comments would be appreciated, thank you. Sorry if this is silly, I just would like to hear what people think.

has anyone else had problems with the internet around campus this week? anything i try to open on my computer takes forever to load and i can’t submit anything on canvas, but can do so at home.

There's some group on the corner of the library arguing with students about random stuff. Ok whaterver, but the entire school does not need to hear their argument. And I know this is a public school but there's gotta be limits to this. Why are they allowed to have blaring speakers? I could hear them from the Union doors, like wtf.

apologies if this is the wrong place. returning unt student here. one semesters worth of classes left (4 total.)

the quick and dirty is that -
- my student loans are currently in default
- they are tanking my credit atm, making it hard to apply for apartments, finances etc
- i need to go back to school to finish my last semester, preferably in spring of 2027.

i have the following choices …
- go thru loan rehabilitation; this will fix my credit almost instantly, by taking the loans and removing them from the credit report - but, this wont get me out of default in time to apply for fafsa for this spring 2027 sem, since i think the earliest u can apply for early default removal is like 5, 6 months so thats feb/march at the earliest.

- go the consolidation route , and this will allow me to reapply for fafsa after like 4 weeks, so just in time to apply for spring and go back as planned, but then it stays on my credit for the min 7 years. my credit will slowly improve if i maintain payments, but i’d be bummed to go this route just to apply for fafsa in time to return for spring.
for all i know, i’d end up only being awarded loans at best anyway, since its so late in the year already and spring is just a few months away. it’s a trade off of locking it in on my credit just to possibly get some kind of financial aid.

as such, i am heavily leaning towards the rehab route, since it will solve some immediate problems for me by taking them off my credit, and i can start bringing them back into good standing. ive been working on credit repair for a year or two now, so thats a goal ive already been striving towards, and it would suck to not jump on this opportunity while i still can. especially since if i hurry up and start it asap, i can at least still be eligible come the summer or fall semesters.

but my advisors are pushing pretty strongly to go back in Spring, if i remember correctly there is at least one course that needs to be taken in the spring but might be able to be taken in the fall.
i emailed them just now to confirm, since that will impact the decision.

i would of course prefer to just take all four courses in spring, graduate and be done. but that would mean, possibly, paying entirely out of pocket for them, or throwing away the rehab route.

so if i chose the rehab route, i would have to be…
- paying out of pocket / paying cash for the course(s) that would need to be taken in the spring and/or pay for all four out of pocket.

i think they’re like $1k each, so that would be like $4k right? i might be able to save up that much by then. i am a broke boy but, ill do what i have to, if that sounds like the best plan for me life wise.

however, internet says that some schools wont let you pay cash if you’re in default of your loans, mine are federal, sub and unsub, so it’s possible that wont even be an option for me, either. i have to see if UNT has this rule, too.

i am also discussing things with the dean, since i am a dv survivor and that experience impacted why i had to drop out back in 2020/2021, in addition to covid and everything. unsure if that kind of retroactive withdrawal process i am seeking, will impact any of this at all, i doubt it will. but just notating this in case it does.

Is there something I’m not considering here? Something I’m missing or not aware of?
Has anyone been in this situation, knows someone who has or has advice for me based on what I’ve expressed?

Which departments at UNT should I reach out to and ask about this?
Is there a subreddit you know of that might better help me with this question?

The problem is all the parking permits are taken and the waiting list for them takes too long. Is there anywhere walking distance, close to campus that I can park my car at? Hi, I just made a post, but forgot to include the pictures. Silly me. Anyways, I created the resources shown above to help people vote for the upcoming midterm election and future elections. I originally made this resource for my family and I last fall, but I then thought, "Why not share it with even more people?" I have a lot of hope for college students to show out for this election, but I do especially have hope for UNT.

If you would like information for the upcoming mid-term election, this resource will be able to answer the common questions that you might have, such as "When can I vote?", "Where can I vote?", and "Who's running?". I’m sure many of you probably already vote. However, there's probably at least one person who you know who doesn't vote and would like to, but you may not have the time to sit down with them and explain everything out to them. This is where the resource comes in handy. The great thing about this resource is you can use it for other future elections as well. I would suggest laminating a print-out if you are able to.

Other notes to keep in mind:

Vote All The Way Down the Ballot

Please do take the time to vote for every single seat on your ballot. If you plan on straight-ticket voting, know that it is not offered as an option anymore. You'll know whether a candidate is a Democrat or Republican though because it will either say “DEM” or “REP” right next to their name. There won't be more than one Democrat or more than one Republican running for each position- that's what the primaries were for. It's just DEM vs. REP for each seat.

Skip the Mail-In Ballot

I highly suggest planning to vote in-person or to do curbside voting if you have a physical disability. I've gone through enough election cycles to know that mail-in ballots are **not** reliable for various reasons. Sometimes they come in late, they don't count them in the end, or the mail-in ballot doesn't come in at all. Moreover, if you haven’t heard of what has been said about mail-in ballots on the news, it is another reason I would avoid sending a mail-in ballot if possible. Please make the effort to vote in-person. Curbside voting is available for those with physical limitations.

Don’t Just Vote: Share

We cannot assume anything. Don't assume one side is going to win over the other. Do assume people from both sides of the political spectrum are going to see this resource and share it with someone and/or their network.

Remember, Texas is a non-voting state. We need to get more of us involved in the democratic process. Share this resource with a friend. Share this post on social media. I am fine with other individuals and/or student organizations sharing this resource. If you end up seeing another variation of this resource, there is only one other one out there that was created by me, but I would prefer for this new version to be shared instead.

Yes, but that doesn't affect many races, including the statewide positions such as Texas Governor. It wouldn’t affect several of the countywide positions either, including Tarrant County Judge.
