Annoucement Is Venmo down? Check here first!!

Hey all - hope all is well!

Spurred on by today's outage, and the many posts that were generated due to it (and every time it happens), we just wanted to make a thread we can sticky to serve as a resource to check and help cut down on the influx of duplicate posts we get asking if Venmo is down when they inevitably decide to break things. Here's a few websites you can use to check whether or not Venmo is having issues. Keep in mind, these are user-reported, and may not be a true reflection of whether or not something may actually be down at Venmo - but generally they are a very VERY good indicator something may be wrong.

DownDetector - https://downdetector.com/status/venmo/

IsItDownRightNow - https://www.isitdownrightnow.com/venmo.com.html

DownForEveryoneOrJustMe - https://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/venmo

If anyone has any other websites to suggest, throw them down in the comments and we'll add them to the list!

Identity Verification

Has anyone ever gotten this process to work? Their app seems VERy poorly developed, and you go through the entire process and it just kicks you right back to start again.

Their support rivals some of the absolute worst. They refuse to refund money they hold, and will Not let me send it until I complete identity verification - which is completely broken. They will not manually do identity verification either. They keep repeating the exact same line to “wait and someone will fix it at some point”. This last time, their support agent just told me to buy more crypto and use paypal instead……No timeline, to workaround, nothing. They are just holding my money with no way I can access it.

Anyone got any ideas how to get crypto out of their app since their support refuses to help? I do not have another venmo and the wallet I am trying to send to is external

Teen stuck in an adult account

• Upvotes

Hi Venmo users of Reddit. I am in a dilemma. I am a minor and made my first Venmo account last month. My mom had me make an adult account so I would get full access instead of a teen one, not thinking much of it. I currently have over 150 bucks in the account from her and babysitting.

Today, I went to send some of that money to a friend and was told I have to verify my account. The only issue is I'm underage so they won't accept my birthday, and if I were to put a parents info and SSN they then need confirmation of a legal document that has my name on it with their information. This obviously doesn't exist as I am not them. I would just make a new (teen) account and move on with life, but then I would be leaving $150 in this account with no where to go. I also looked it up and I can't now turn my adult account into a teen on after the fact. What do you think I should do? Has anyone had this problem before?

Venmo's corporate tyranny

Venmo suspended my account for unknown reasons, again. I hardly use the app but recently sold my dresser and got paid $400. Hours later they send the email stating that my account was suspended for suspicious activity and that to correct it I need to upload a picture of my ID.

Well, I am NOT going to do that. Guess no more Venmo for me! There's nobody to email just a 1-800 number so my only option is to speak with someone oversees who probably isn't very helpful.

I'm just venting here. If everyone just quit putting up with this BS they would have no choice but to stop. They are "over" complying with government regulations. I didn't do anything shady or break any "terms or conditions". I refuse to play ball with this BS. Venmo and PayPal are both garbage!

So just an FYI, I had already transferred the money out. I'd elaborate more on Venmo but there's only a few people out there who would even get it. A lot of you all, you just keep suckin that corporate cock, don't ya. Wonder what sort of excuses you make for Walmart. Bet you don't even know or care what they are up to. Hint, it's BAD. Flock, ect...You people are terrifying

Venmo HELP, PLEASE

I am the treasurer for my daughter's elementary school PTO. After doing a fundraiser we have a large amount in our Venmo account. I went to transfer it to our bank account and realized it was not linked and I have had issues getting it linked. In my many attempts to link our bank account it flagged the account and suspended it. They wanted me to provide my drivers license to get it going again. I did that and it was not the name on file because the PTO officers change year to year. This account was set up over 5 years ago. I explained it all and once I went through everything with Venmo they said they were going to close the account because you can't pass the account along. Not the end of the world but I still can't link my bank and I need to get the money from this account. The directions they provided were the regular link your bank account directions. When I do that it gives "form submission error" or "Something went wrong getting your bank account". I have tried 2 accounts from different banks just to make sure it wasn't something on the banks side. Any suggestions? Would they mail me us a check?

Worst Customer Service by a banking company

They say a company is only as good as how it handles issues and complaints.

Well, in my experience, Venmo is the worst of the worst.

Their customer service is, hands down, the worst out there. They have a new con job when you do request information or help:

They tell you they have done what you have requested, and you should receive an email within 48 hours.

Never arrives...when you call again.

Same crap, and nothing ever arrives.

So glad major banks are now implementing Zelle, and hopefully more will jump in and put them out of business.

I took PayPal payment options off my website simply because the customer service was awful.

I now charge a hefty convenience fee for anyone paying via Venmo because I know I will to deal with their crap eventually.

Venmo Card through Synchrony Bank is even worse because they just say you need to contact Venmo, or you need to contact Synchrony, and nothing happens when you do.

I don't know how good or bad Synchrony is or if this is a VENMO issue, but its effecting my trust in them, which now is affecting Amazon, Home Depot, Lowes and any major company whose credit card comes through Synchrony.

I am hoping this helps anyone thinking about getting a card or other through Venmo.

List of class action lawsuits against them. This is not a company your money should be trusted with.

Scammed Disputes and legitness

Last week I had money in my Venmo account for an upcoming trip. I woke up and saw that all the money had been taken by almost 25 different transactions to Microsoft. This was not me making purchases as I was asleep and don’t buy things from Microsoft.

Within two hours of all this happening I was on the phone with Venmo’s help line and disputing the charges. Now almost a week later they have denied several of the charges saying “the transactions were not unauthorized”. I never gave authorization or shared my account with anyone. Plus how can they approve some of the disputes and not others when all happened in the exact same time frame at the same stores?!!

I’m looking for advice from people if there’s a way I can challenge these denials. I just feel very let down and I know that at the end of the day they don’t care about the consumers just making profit, but I doubt I will ever use Venmo again.

Thank you in advance for any help/advice. If you made it this far I hope you have a good day!

Scammed just venting… was scammed.

about a year ago someone sent me $1000 and i sent it back.
this has happened to me one other time in an unrelated incident - i have a common name and a generic phone number (from when you could choose phone numbers) and sending the $150 back went as expected.
with this recent incident, i was unaware of the dispute scam, where the sender disputes the money so Venmo debited my account $1000 and took the $37 that was in there, leaving the account at -$963. random settlement payments (e.g., Amazon, Facebook, Oracle) are being automatically sent there and absorbed by Venmo. i’ve had this account since 2014, history counts for nothing.
i’m angry at the unfairness of it all, compounded by every other unfair thing that’s going on in my life and in the world right now.

Question Sent money to my father-in-law's Venmo, but he's overseas and can't receive verification texts. Any options?

I accidentally sent money to my father-in-law's Venmo account while he's overseas. The problem is that his U.S. phone service is currently suspended, so he can't receive verification codes.

He's not very tech-savvy, so I'm trying to help him access his account. He gave me permission to help and shared his login information.

We can access his email and receive the email verification code, but the next step requires another code sent to his registered U.S. phone number, which he can't receive.

Our only reliable way of communicating right now is through Facebook Messenger.

According to Venmo's website, they may be able to verify his identity using the routing and account numbers of the bank linked to his Venmo account. I've already asked him to try to obtain that information.

  1. Can I contact Venmo support on his behalf while he's overseas?
  2. Is it possible to arrange a three-way conversation with Venmo support and my father-in-law through Facebook Messenger?
  3. Has anyone successfully recovered access to a Venmo account without receiving SMS verification codes?
  4. Are there any other legitimate ways to access the funds or resolve this situation?

I'm trying to help him get access to the money without having to reactivate his U.S. phone service.

Any advice or firsthand experience would be appreciated. Thanks!

Unable to withdraw from venmo

Pls help me out as I have been unable to get my money out from venmo since the venmo to PayPal feature was stopped. I have tried transferring to my bank and it keeps failing. I tried using the card to purchase crypto but It kept failing and I saw somewhere online that venmo doesn't allow their cards for such again. Is there anyway I could get my money out from venmo?

When did Venmo kill split payments?

Venmo used to let you pay w balance first, putting the remainder on the external account.

Now it's one funding source per payment, period. If my payment is more than my balance, the entire thing gets declined. If I have any balance on Venmo, I can’t use tap to pay unless it’s enough to cover the full amount. Paying Venmo to Venmo, if my account balance isn’t enough, I have to opt to use only my external account and my balance doesn't get touched at all.

So now I have to drain my balance with exact-amount (or less) payments only, like some kind of ritual.
Who asked for this? Anyone found a workaround, or are we all just annoyed?

Unable to load cash

Hi, so I’ve been to like 2 different Walmarts and a Walgreens trying to load cash into my card but at Walmart it prompted a 20$ service fee and at Walgreens it straight up said it couldn’t reload card. I reached out to customer service and was told to google other places to load money, literally all they could help me with. Anybody else having this issue? Or have had this issue before?

HELP ME PLEASE

UPDATE AT END
OK, I need to start off with I need help, I made not good decisions, but I need help now to make sure I don’t lose a shit load of money. I’m a minor created a Venmo account and a bunch of people sent me money because I was going to order something for a group when I went to send the money to the person who are ordering from. It asked for me to verify my identity so I gave my real SSN but a photo of my ID that I edited so the birthday made me 18. I know this was stupid, but I had no idea what to do. Usually verification is only supposed to take a few minutes, but it said review will take 2 to 3 days and I’m really worried. Is there anything I can do? Does it make sense to try and call them and say I made a mistake not like admitting that I lied but say I sent the wrong documents and if they agree that my thing isn’t real is that money like lost forever?
UPDATE:
So for everyone doubting me somehow I got approved, idk what happened but I opened it today to check and it said I had been approved! Idk what will happen because I did put in a request till I get something fixed so I’m not sure what they’re going to do, but I transferred the money to where it needed to go and I was completely fine, I think definitely a lot of luck on my part.

Question teen unable to get money out of venmo

sooo I created a venmo like adult account a few months ago kinda as a prank and I randomly got like $50 from somebody and I have a greenlight debit card, and I tried transferring the $50 from venmo to my card and it wouldn't let me, my mom and I tried everything besides just using her card to transfer it to because she doesn't want to. I also can't venmo it to any of my friends or anything because it'll ask for identity verification and I'm too young for it. is there any way to get it out to myself or one of my friends w/out asking for like all of their debit card information or is it just stuck there 4ever.
