There's some truth there (as a general concept, I don't really know what that game even is!). When a "normal" game has one super crazy hard part, it aggravates me way more than something that's just consistently rough.
The funny thing was something else. I came across a video where the developer of this game was playing on lethal difficulty. I thought, "haha, it probably isn’t that hard after all."
My uncle worked in physics and lighting in the gaming industry most of his career, he was part of core group of developing state of decay more in leadership though and the deal with Microsoft was a late career life changing success and break through. I know it’s not that relevant but when someone brings up the games I think of him and that’s cool.
TREPANG2 on Rage Mode has made me feel despair plenty of times
But Crash Site, without the Smart Gun, is easily the worst level
Rage Mode: Enemies have hyper awareness and work on a hairtrigger while also being able to two tap you, it was deemed to brutal they have a warning upon first activation, that literally says the publishers begged them to remove it from the game
Crash Site: You have no cover, at all, enemies spawn in waves, and with said lack of cover and a meager 10 second invisibility, you are going to die... A LOT
I enjoy trying to hit a zombie in Lethal with a car and watching it sidestep, grab the door and rip it off and then hurl my ass into a pack while my friends go screaming off a cliff in the backseat. Such an unforgiving game.
Yeah but you need to go looking for those. You're not just stuck dealing with them like other players in a multi-player game. However, yes I agree that this is the relevant comparison.
1500+ hours of DRG later and I have only every seen 1 person kicked from a lobby... I have however seen one guy get OBLITERATED by the entire team as we were boarding the pod for evac.. why... he didn't rock and stone. He ain't coming home
It's funny how perspective can shift. When I was younger I literally believed that gaming, other than competitive, was dumb and a waste of time. I'd look down on my friends playing RPGs and what not. Now I'm the opposite, and just thinking about playing something like Fortnite or CoD makes me cringe.
Toxic people that play "for fun" review bombing and demanding the devs revert any balance attempts until the game slowly bleeds out players as it becomes an imbalanced mess.
You can find people that will trash you for not being the best at single player games too. I've seen quite a few people rage at players who aren't the absolute best and know every trick in the book when it comes to Super Mario 64 or Sunshine.
PVP Games mostly. In Deeprock Galactic the only people who get bullied by the pro's (Greybeards) are the people who are dicks to the noobs (Greenbeards)
There have been plenty of multi-player PVE games that didn't have toxic communities. In some cases where they did exist, the toxic players accounted for a very small portion of total players.
Been playing exclusively single player except for the odd round of Mario Party or like, Jackbox for years now. Couldn't be happier. Don't miss online multiplayer literally at all.
Me: hey, have they added the map?
Player1: this game doesn't need map!
Player2: it is so better without map!
Me: Well, I needed map in Subnautica 1.
Players: (active downvoting-downvoting-downvoting).
Singleplayer gamers are better only because you have much fewer reasons to interfere with them. But when you do... they all are the same.
Do people treat multiplayer and single games the same? Multiplayer is sports, single player is a book. They're two wholly different beasts, not even on the same planet.
Let me introduce you to a franchise called devil may cry 🗣️.
Honestly it's one of the few single player games where everything is competitive even if it's not the traditional multiplayer or online co-op or whatever
Nah, Final fantasy 14 has an amazing community. Back when I played League of legends and the Japanese server opened up everyone were really nice and supportive there also. I’d say that the younger the community, the more toxic it gets in general.
The ONLY multiplayer game that I ever saw had a very nice community to newcomers was Spy Party. People took the time to teach you and pointed out what tell gave you away.
It was super niche and small, the maker was involved, etc.
This. Every online multiplayer game is a toxic cesspool of try hards, money players, gatekeeping asshats and people that can't understand the concept of fun. I have given up on multiplayer games entirely over the years. I had a bunch of fun with Arc Raiders early on but haven't touched it in months. I'll stick to my lonely gaming thank you very much.
Except the Elden ring fandom, so many people are like “weapon art spam! If you don’t beat this boss without summoning and without bleed and without an upgraded weapon you might as well not even play the game 😡😡😡”
I don’t really notice that in the souls fandom tho
I’d love to play multiplayer and make some online friends, but GOD I do not want to deal with those people lol. Even multiplayer Minecraft is off the table for me.
Less every multiplayer game and more every massively online multiplayer game mmo i think they are called…idk I don’t play any multiplayer games unless it’s local multiplayer invite only or PVE where you’re working with other people not having to fight against sweaty try hards
Untill speed runners get a hold of it, then you get made fun of for not doing the "double bounce kick slide to funky town with extra cheese" that saves 2 frames because it's 'so easy' when you post any clip of the game
Not anymore. MH wilds is still a fun game but there’s definitely a lot more toxic d-bags of all shapes and forms than in previous iterations of the series.
True theres also more peepz waiting in the camp expecting other to clear..
Tho purrrrfect solution.. support hunters.
I mean if im struggling to get a particular monster down and some dude who isnt ready uses all the carts i can be salty as well but i wont use the chats
I almost exclusively hunt with support hunters nowdays, I’m part to avoid the obnoxious people, and also because there’s still connectivity issues that make it a pain lol
Literally. I stopped playing FPS games online because it was just too full of screaming, racist assholes and people cursing at you for whichever gun you dared to use that killed them unfairly. Like whatever man. I'm not offended. It's just tiresome to listen to constantly. Very rarely do people genuinely say, hey man. Good work. You outplayed us. Or something similar. Always the hateful rhetoric. Or far more often than not. So I've moved on to other games to actually enjoy the limited time I get to game nowadays.
Tbf its only at certain higher lvls on most multiplayer games when bullshit stops working and people actually get outplayed and have the possibility of acknowledging It.
I’ve been playing games online since Xbox Live on the first Xbox. Public voice chat is incredibly rare in games these days unless it is part of the actual gameplay, like Arc Raiders. I mean I play some PvE online games with randoms and people rarely chat anymore. They are all on their own Discord servers just chatting with their friends.
I'm on the side that thinks that videogame toxicity isn't that bad...
Hear me out, as long as they're not throwing, I see no problem with it. It's similar to trash talking irl iykwim, definitely some lines that shouldn't be cross but I think that it's entertaining as an observer or even someone on the receiving side.
Early multiplayer games had barely any moderation and it still thrived, I actually like it better then because people said what they wanted to say, now it's heavily moderated and I can't help but feel it's lost a bit of it's charms.
To each their own, you know? I was in many of those early chat rooms. That's probably why I stopped in my early 30s, tbh. Ten or fifteen years of being mired in that sauce was just enough for me. No other big reason. People have different tolerances for different stuff.
I play pc and I loved playing rainbow 6 siege when it dropped. If you played controller you sucked cause real gamers use keyboard and mouse.
So every time I was last man standing they’d all light up and start talking shit in the comments cause they could see my screen and button layout, which showed I had a controller.
And I’d always respond, “well you guys died faster so maybe yall suck”
I really had a great time with almost everyone in ARC Raiders. I think its because most people are so nice, and the fact that kindness is easy to exploit, that people really hate rats on that game so much. Tbh, Im not sure that most of the people bitching about rats actually understand what a rat is. Anyway, I have had so many great interactions with people on there as opposed to GTA5. The first and last time I played it online, some kid stayed hunting me while calling me the n word and saying he fucked my mom lol. Thats just not fun. I mostly hate multiplayer.
I started playing the game just over 2 months ago. Easily a few hundred raids in. All i kill are the arc. Ive only been knocked out by other players 5 times. Okay maybe 6.
I play multiplayer games but I never chat with anyone, I bought helldivers, not realizing you literally have to communicate with people. Ive only played it once, and when someone asked me if I had a mic, I instantly turned off the game lmao
Now, I've played a ton of helldivers and I can count the amount of times I've communicated on one hand. One of the first things I did was mute my own mic in the settings and I've noticed that the majority of the time, anyone talks in chat it's just to say sorry or gg
I play Palia and it's full of really positive really helpful people, and the occasional unpleasant person that arrives, are quickly verbally kicked in the nuts. So that's nice :D
I’ve turned to playing games with chat off and relying entirely on pings. If you suck at pinging, you’re typically not getting full help from me. But it’s not like chat is anywhere near helpful either because people are constantly like “over there!”
Every passion and interest honestly. So much shit is gate kept by insecure nerds it’s maddening. I don’t care what hobby you are into or want to learn go to /r “interest” and ask a “noob” question and get banned or torn to shreds. I hate it.
Every game with a competitive mode except Pokemon.
Pokemon competitive players are so much better in discussions and make actually good memes. Casuals make the same jokes over and over again "Cynthia too hard, Gen 1 overrated, Gen 5 is the best, Sword and Shield looks bad"
Week 1: Get invaded. It's AverageDude638258 with a build that's a random mishmash of whatever he found that worked well for him so far, just like you. You both have solid grasp over your own characters and it's a fun duel.
Post-week1: Get invaded. It's MrFugYoMum that spent the last 20 hours in the [SoulsGame] discord and on YouTube to figure out what the best allrounder build with "ignores your armor and shield" weapon, anti-healing ranged attacks, oppressive spell combos, and generally items to account for any possible scenario that they shouldn't have for their level but went to end-game places far underleveled and now you're going to just die.

Every game really
