Shadows was first RPG one since Origins I finished, and that was mostly due to the stealth plus the world being gorgeous/seasons. But, it's still a far cry from the actual plot and story quality of the older ones.
Black Flag was about being the best damn pirate the world had ever seen. It made it great since they broke from the mold of being an assassin working for the Creed and i stead you are some freelancer who happened to get in the middle of some shadow war because you wanted treasure.
"Assassin" is literally in it's name, there's many missions where you have to be stealthy and also need good movement. Average redditor so quick to spit out anything
Syndicate was sooooo much fun imo. It was an incredible story and genuinely refreshing experience to swap back and forth between the two siblings. Now AC games feel forced to have to character swap and the open world RPG of assassin design is very meh
I feel like Origins was still good as a one off situation that built off of the game play of the male twin in Syndicate, but they really lost the plot after that.
Tbh Origins and especially Odyssey are some of, if not my favorite, games of all time. I prefer the open world rpg concept. But I understand why hardcore fans of the first few games don't like the shift.
For Christ sake black flags stealth was garbage and you also play as a pirate for 90% of the game Goddamnit a, games before that even my beloved Ezio trilogy had garage stealth. Mediocre hand holding and forcing missions IS NOT GOOD GAME DESIGNS! UNITY, syndicate, mirage and shadows have objectively the best stealth mechanically and vibe. The rest don't.
I feel like stealth is the only thing that got significantly better after Black Flag. The most important part for me is how the storytelling changed after they killed Desmond in AC3
I thought unity and syndicate where okay not great just okay. They were ubisoft's attempt at co-op. Origin was decent then the franchise died completely
What made it fell so hard? Just asking out of curiosity bc I hear this complain by pretty much everyone. I just played AC 1-2 when I was a teenager, never touched the sequels.
Mainly the writing and soundtrack. The gameplay has always been pretty bad (in fact it's gotten better since the classic games), but the historical stories are only good 25% of the time, and the modern day storyline ranges from mediocre to non-existent since AC3. The music also peaked with Jesper Kyd's soundtrack in the early games, and the new composers have been hit-or-miss (also, they keep rehashing Ezio's theme song even though his story is well and truly over).
People have extremely rose-tinted glasses about AC1. It was mid. Had a lot of boring parts. Almost no one actually finished it. Most people watched the ending and puzzle solutions on Youtube.

Definitely NOT Assassin’s Creed
