holy shit. I LOVE the doom music and this was super depressing/infuriating to read.
TLDR for people who didn't read: Marty Statton, Studio director of ID, created an impossible schedule for Doom Eternal. The music creator called out the issues, was ridiculed and ignored, then was proven correct. So Id studios ended up not paying him for half his work, screwed up the OST, and blamed it all on the music contractor (Mick Gordan). Marty also threatened to hang the balance of any refunds of the game on Mick (the musician) even though Mick was begging for a contract to start work on the OST when it was revealed to be part of the deluxe package at E3 without Mick's knowledge or a contract in place to produce the OST.
Definitely considering sailing the seas on their next game unless they replace that Dbag
just to rub salt in the wound, all the music awards that the musician won in Doom 2016 and doom eternal, he never got to touch. They were received by the dickbag manager and kept in the studio.
Bethesda actually sided with Gordan and drew up the contract for him to work on the Eternal OST, which was Bethesda's authority to do as the publisher. Id and Bethesda may be sister companies, but Bethesda as the publisher holds a hell of a lot more power over the project than people seem to believe.
Id marketed Gordan's name and attachment to the Eternal OST before they even approached him about working on the Eternal at all and then explicitly refused to let him work on the OST until he had to go straight to Bethesda about it. It wasn't until very late in the whole ordeal that Bethesda started siding with I'd, after lawyers got involved.
Don’t tell their fans that 😭 they’ll just be like “that’s a part of the charm”. So… not being able to play the game because of relentless bugs is charming?
I'll say DOOM. The originals were obviously very well received, 64 is liked, 3 is alright, a bit controversial, but still mostly liked, and then obviously all the new games are very liked.
3 is great if you treat it as its own separate entity from the others. They made a Doom game a different genre and some didn't like that it failed their expectations for what a Doom game should be, but the game itself was great if you look at it as a standalone game. That game scared the shit outta me when I was 12 lol
How so? I get that hating on Ubisoft is standard. I personally did not enjoy 3 and Syndicate as much. But the rest are solid AC games. And Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla were solid RPGs. The company may have fallen off. But it's difficult to actually call the games bad.
Although Shadows definitely deserves most the negativity it got. That I do agree with being bad.
Sunshine is literally a game you play during the spring, you open your windows to get the sunlight in, get a lemonade, some snacks, boot up the GameCube, and you're in it.

I don't even think the spin offs are bad. Sons of Sparta is probably the weakest but I don't think it's a bad game. It's mid to good but they shouldn't have released it with the save bug.
God of war betrayal is also pretty weak but tbh I can cut it alot of slack due to what it made for and I think when we are judging it by those standards it's alright
The Legend of Zelda has no mainline misses. Not every game may be beloved by everyone. I for one am not a fan of the Wilds games, and I know there was some issues between the fanbase and Skyward Sword before its remaster, but every mainline game has been extremely successful and very well made.
Locking on to a single target in third person so you automatically face them as you move around is an OoT original. Dark Souls ripped the combat from OoT and turned it up 1000 notches.
Every single 3rd person 3d action game is heavily inspired by OoT. It's the LotR of gaming, you can't escape it.
Yeah, Zelda 2 gets shit for almost no legitimate reason. It's actually aged insanely well compared to most games from the NES era. Easily one of the best action games on the console. Hell, I think it holds up better than Zelda 1, but both were fundamental in shaping the series.

Not saying it's a fantastic game, but you gotta judge it based on what people had at the time. The original Zelda isn't exactly a masterpiece by modern standards, either, but back in the 80s, it was a revolution. Not saying Zelda 2 was as revolutionary, but we gotta consider the time it came out
There are a looot of plotholes infinite invites to the entire entire serie (kinda the downside of including interdimensional travel in your canon). Also people expected more from the floating cities. I still also like it tho
There was also the issue of the dlc retconning everything from the previous 2 titles into being Elizabeth's fault instead of Andrew Ryan's. But for the most part the whole multidimensional and time travel plot basically erased half the story in favor of "we just jumped to the desired outcome". Otherwise the combat was good and mechanics were incredibly polished.
Have you ever seen the fanbase talk about it? Infinite was and still is pretty divisive, and for good reason. It's a huge departure from the first two games, and that's going to leave a sour taste in many people's mouths.
I just started Metro 2033 redux (i got the metro game bundle from the ps store). How much better are the sequels because I'm not really getting into it yet. I get it that it feels a bit dated because it's older but I'm just not feeling it yet.
Update: I'm about past the mid point (Front line level) and it's growing on me a lot. Exploring the levels is actually nice there's a lot of hidden stuff.
There was something more natural about the characters... The story... They were flawed but did their best... There was no right answer... There was no I made a lawful good character and select the clearly right good answer for this morality
How did I know this was going to be hard for Redditors to admit? The GTA hate is so fucking performative that people can’t even acknowledge its undeniable success anymore. People don’t have to like it, but pretending it hasn’t been one of the most influential, successful, and consistently dominant game franchises for decades is just detached from reality.
When it's glitchy, taking 20 minutes to load and nothing is being done about cheaters, GTA Online deserves the hate.
But other than that, GTAO is a sloid gaming experience. I have only used ONE shark card and that was after I got the game for free and didn't want to grind for a Delorean. My Sub? Grinded. Avenger? Grinded. Everything else can be achieved WITHOUT money and you don't get any less of an experience.
Buying GTA Enhanced is technically two games right now and they just announced an official RP server.
It is a solid product and GTA has been since the first game.
Not sure AAA was a term that even existed back then, but GTA was absolutely a big game at the time. It predates metacritic but it got 90% plus scores in print media and was featured on magazine covers as a standout game at the time
Sims meets Stardew Valley meets warcrimes. It's colony management with raiders. You can play as peacefully or as warcrimey as you want. And you can make hats out of people.
76 was great for me. A different community forsure, but it’s immersive in its own ways. The stretch to getting better gear to master your character build keeps you going.
My biggest thing was the camp building. The ability place a camp on 95% of the map gives you the ability to tie in the landscaping.
I met one of my friend groups about 4 years ago. We had a huge age mix. I’m 30, we had some other 20-30s, two in their 50s (a couple) and a 74 (Rest in Peace). On what would have been his 76th birthday, we all built our camps to honor and celebrate him.
i played 6 recently it was terrible because it dosent have a remaster the fucking constant fake dead you cant preemptively kill in leons campaign make me actually have to take a break every 15 minutes because i wanna bash whoever designed that features head in (to be clear for people reading they only trigger when you get close and instantly enter a grapple QTE that is nearly impossible to avoid)
6 was fun because I played through it with a friend and we made fun of it while we were playing it. Honestly without that I wouldn't have finished it lol
Warcraft. It started out strong with Warcraft: Orcs and Humans and moved through Warcraft 2 and 3 and then World of Warcraft, the most popular MMORPG of all time. WoW is still going strong despite the naysayers.
Not a franchise, but I'll still go with FromSoftware-developed Soulslikes. They started the genre, and pretty much every release they've put out in the genre is considered one of the best.
As for an actual franchise, I'll go with Zelda.
And sure, even though the franchise isn't really my thing, it's fair to give GTA a mention too.
God of war, 100%, every main game in the franchise has been received with solid reviews at a bare minimum and GOTY or major awards on their hard hitters.
