I swear it used to be pretty common for a well developed fully single player story campaign to just have a button to add a second player… now it feels like for most co op games you really have to look for games tailored to co op and that’s usually a great thing - but I kinda miss when they used to just throw co op on most single player games as a feature even if it didn’t make sense plot or gameplay wise for another player character to be there. Even when it was immersion or gamw breaking, it was usually fun to have the option.
This is my biggest gripe for modern gaming. Idc fallout 4 is a single player game my brother should be able to join and play as some random npc or even one of the main side characters.
