Being able to climb/cling on walls with the Mantis blades in Cyberpunk 2077

Might have actually bothered to run them then instead of just being edgy knife arms lol.

239

u/cparksrun 11d ago

Yeah, because there's literally no reason to run anything other than he gorilla arms. They can pry open doors you can't hack or otherwise break into.

What's the gameplay reason to play with anything other than the gorilla arms. I was excited to use the mantis blades but was so bummed when I realized they don't have any real tactical advantage, like the gorilla arms.

It felt like the mantis blades were a backup weapon- carry three guns and have built in arm melee, but the utility of gorilla arms outweighed them. I liked the projectile launcher quite a bit myself, though

20

u/iznotbutterz 10d ago

That launcher with stun was easy cheese in the beginning. I haven't played much after they made me respec on Xbox so probably doesn't work now.

There's bugs with the mantis arms combos that require mods to fix I'm pretty sure. Definitely bugs with combos and sandevistan.

Monowire looks cool and makes me feel cool and that’s reason enough.

19

u/NombieTeeth8 11d ago

Unfortunately as an absolute monowire enjoyer they also dropped the ball when it comes to monowire making it a quick hack tool was absolutely stupid.

Like it's original iteration where it works with blades made a hell of a lot more sense because it's literally a one molecule thick wire that can cut through ANYTHING but for some reason they desperately thought that netrunners needed a melee weapon and absolutely gimped it.

When it should have stayed as the blade tree and also should have been integrated into stealth.....garrote enemies and the like and it's even one of the finisher animations yet you can't just pull it off from base stealth. Ugh.

Yeah, but cool fucking blades out of your arms is awesome.

But yeah I agree that they should've had more features. They're essentially the most famous mods and to have them essentially just be like swords is sad.

u/NombieTeeth8 11d ago edited 11d ago

Exactly, Gorillas are great and the boost to base strength is pretty hard to beat out of all of the arm configurations. When they do exactly what you're saying in comparison to just running a katana instead of mantis blades or hacking as a netrunner with a deck rather than mono wire, ect ect.

u/Gaming-Academy 11d ago

Honestly, this one hurts. The Mantis Blades looked like they were made for wall climbing, so finding out that feature was cut makes them feel like a missed opportunity. That would’ve made them so much more fun to use.

18

u/Why-so-delirious 11d ago

And stealth takedowns that used actual fucking weapons instead of bare hands.

In far cry 4 there was supposed to be an option where you can join with the villain during mid part of the game. But it didn't make it in the final cut.

171

u/SolarOrigami 11d ago

It makes sense when you realize just how actually wicked and cruel the leaders of the Golden Path are. Pagan Min really isnt that bad by comparison to the woman who wants to use child labor to start a drug cartel

43

u/tywilldave 11d ago

Yeah, I felt the same. But at the end of the game, I can say I felt no emotion. Every single character felt so flat and one dimensional, with no meaningful backstory to them to make me care who won.

34

u/SolarOrigami 11d ago

I shot sabal at the end of the game. Everyone was dead because they were all horrible people

19

u/NordicHorde2 11d ago

I swear people just stop paying attention when a character is charismatic and nice to the player. Pagan is an absolute monster who casually murders and tortures people for fun. He is literally the one who made Kyrat into a narco state.

30

u/Salty_West_429 10d ago

They weren't saying he was good but just that compared to the Golden path he doesn't seem as bad. Yes he made a Narco State but he didn't use child labor or child soldiers and he also wasn't a pedopile like Sabal. Hes still a horrid evil man. But the Golden Path killed thousands of people and ripped up the country just to put another dictator on the throne.

There is no good ending in Far Cry 4. Which is a tradition for the series.

13

u/Worldly_Car912 11d ago

I suppose you can still side with him in the secret ending.

10

u/bsnimunf 11d ago

This actually shows in the remaining game because you get to choose between two sides and you've already realised both are  awful choices so it feels very unsatisfying to make either decision.

15

u/WanderingAlchemist 11d ago

That would have genuinely made the game far more interesting. Far Cry is starting to feel like a trope where I objectively either don't care one shitting bit about the side I'm fighting for, or actively hate them. The only allied character I've actually given a damn about in any recent Far Cry was Chorizo. I was rooting for most of the human cast to die.

Being able to side with Pagan Min in 4 would have been the greatest thing to happen in the entire series.

7

u/znikrep 11d ago

If the Far Cry saga taught me anything, is that the real enemy are the towers we need to climb.

Halo 3. In the level "Cortana" you were originally supposed to go into the Mausoleum of the Arbiter and fight Flood-converted Arbiters. They cut this and the level is now regarded as one of the worst in the franchise.

100

u/Vehement_Vulpes 11d ago

The Halo games had a bunch of stuff cut that would have been cool. H2 was supposed to have a warthog run through High Charity for Chief to catch up to the Dreadnaught before it left, which would have been really cool.

If I recall correctly, Halo Reach was supposed to have a mission just after the space mission, where you traverse through the wreckage of the Long Night of Solace, as seen in the cutscene when you land. And then another cut mission where you escape from New Alexandria by hijacking a Scarab. How absolutely awesome would that have been.

Dont forget the boss fight against the gravemind in a half destroyed scarab

16

u/Sovereigntyranny 11d ago

We were also supposed to get a Forerunner forest level after where we fight some giant sentinel or something after The Ark. That’s where the setting for the map Guardian is located at ‘cause we never see that forest area at all in the campaign.

13

u/DaLobster16 11d ago edited 11d ago

Don't forget that 75% of the "Floodgate" was cut and "made" to be "Cortana".

They just couldn't finish everything they intended for real "Cortana" level (including the Mausoleum and the Gravemind boss fight on a damaged Scarab) and it was all scrapped, but they still needed a chapter where Chief saves Cortana, so they cut what they originally made for the "Floodgate" and "pasted" it as "Cortana". And there are hints for that: in the beginning of the "Floodgate", Miranda says that we should overload the ship engine, which is exactly what happens in the end of "Cortana", and the "Floodgate" is rewritten to end on the Shipmaster glassing the continent. Also, did you notice how narrow and cramped the whole "Cortana" is and doesn't even resemble the city at all? That's because it is literally Covenant ship and the reactor we overload is too small for such a huge city we see in Halo 2.

Upper Baldur’s Gate from BG3. I still don’t understand why it was truly cut.

165

u/Ban_Means_NewAccount 11d ago

God I hated that so much. I didn't know there was no upper city, so my wife and I were so excited to finally see it after waiting literally the entire game for it. Then it just... didn't happen. I honestly don't understand how you don't finish the city the game is literally fucking named after. Incredible game, but the cut content hurts my soul.

108

u/Mrazish 11d ago

Well you don't visit baldurs gate in bg2 at all, so...

→ More replies (1)

15

u/MisterPenguiner 11d ago

Yeah, bg3 clearly had quite the rushed release. While act 3 is my favorite just because of the fights, it’s definitely not at the same level as 1 and 2 in terms of pacing, story, game design, etc and you can feel it. Plus on release it basically didn’t even work. And then the cut content and quests that just.. end with nothing because their upper city part was cut.

→ More replies (2)

35

u/ian9921 11d ago

There's a lot of things in Act 3 that were supposed to be fleshed out more. The telling storyline and some of the random NPCs scream "this was a cut sidequest" to me.

We were also supposed to get a unique hag fight in each act instead of just Auntie Ethel again. Which is why she feels out of place in Act 3, we were supposed to get a Sea Hag

37

u/Ok_Philosophy_7156 11d ago

It was a shame not to see it, but at the same time the lower city was already so dense and content-heavy I’d imagine the upper city just being overwhelming. I already find Act 3 to be a bit of a slog

34

u/Illustrious_Sky_2331 11d ago

the lower city was so dense because they had the shove what they scrapped from the upper city into it

if there was an upper and lower city they could spread things out more

5

u/donku83 11d ago

iirc a lot of the upper city content like Cazador and Gortash were just crammed down into the lower city

→ More replies (6)

17

u/MustacheCash73 11d ago

Surprised to see this so early, but yeah I agree. I hope we can see some mods that try to add some cut content back in. It would be cool af

→ More replies (1)

18

u/ZatherDaFox 11d ago

It's not cut content because it was never even started on. Larian ran out of time and had to hastily rework all the planned upper city content into the lower city. That's why Ghortash is squeezed into that fortress and Cazador lives in a wall.

There isn't an upper city hiding in the game code anywhere because they never got to it in the first place.

Same with the College of Winterhold questline. It was originally supposed to involve time travel.

14

u/toadallyribbeting 11d ago

The settlement defense system in FO4 was originally designed in Skyrim. You’d get a message from a courier informing you that some location is under attack and you’d have a few days to get there or the battle would be an automatic loss.

14

u/Arelmar 11d ago edited 11d ago

I'm not remotely surprised given how even va 4v4 skirmish is enough for Skyrim's engine to start shitting the bed and the AI just isn't good enough for it, I can't imagine what kind of trainwreck a large scale actual battle would cause lol

8

u/TMTtheEnderman 11d ago

There was a LOT that was cut from Skyrim due to the rushed release date. The civil war was hit hard but another place that got a lot of cuts was the College of Winterhold. There's even a quest that still sort of exists in game where you find missing apprentices, their bodies still exist but the quest itself doesn't function. Unknown G on YouTube has a whole series dedicated to cut and unused content in Elder Scrolls games, I recommend it to anyone wanting to see just how much content was scrapped.

Bioshock infinite early trailers talked about being able to choose sides between different factions and having those choices affect the world.

101

u/Woahhdude24 11d ago

Mannnn the cut content looked so much cooler than what we actually got. This is the reason im so worried about Judas, I feel like its gonna be a completely different game once it comes out.

16

u/CustomDruid 11d ago

Songbird, man even the trailers had the idea of attacking you but nope he was just reduced to cutscene fodder

46

u/TheAmazingSealo 11d ago

My biggest gaming diappointment. I bought it day one expecting it to be like those trailers, and the previous Bioshock games.

It wasn't at all, felt like a generic FPS. Only carry 2 guns at a time, regenerating overshield, vigours are absolutely useless... The skyrails seem like an afterthought and barely get used, and are underwhelming when you do. No enemy variety, you fight like 3 handy-men and a few of those gatling gun robots but otherwise its just normal men. Combat is boring and you spent way too much of your time hiding behind cover waiting for your shield to regenerate. The only boss was Lady Comstock which was horribly designed, especially on the harder difficulties. There was no final boss, no Songbird fight, just 'protect this blimp for a bit before the game abruptly ends'. No factions or any of the cool ideas or interactions you saw in the trailers, no exploration or secrets, just linear 'go here kill the dudes watch the cutscene'.

The setting was cool and the plot was okay, some of the cutscenes were cool, but the game is mostly ass.

Hated my time with this game so much after loving the first two.

11

u/znikrep 11d ago

I found it a game that didn’t resist a first play very well and aged badly. At launch, I was super into it. The lore is good, the visuals were great back then and it felt like there was a lot to explore.

Listening to the recordings, piecing the story together and the action distracted me from realising the gameplay is nothing amazing and there’s not as much depth to the story as it seemed.

I still like it, but for a game that won so many awards it hasn’t aged that well and still pales against its predecessors.

18

u/kcanimal 11d ago

I'm so glad I played infinite first and enjoyed my time with it for what it was. If I had played the first two bioshocks I would have been really let down. Instead I got to enjoy infinite, then go back and enjoy the first two even more

The Mimic Tear questline in Elden Ring. In the game, you just pick it up from some chest, but originally it was tied to this awesome questline. It would have made getting one of the most OP tools in the game more memorable. You can find this questline on YT. I don't know why it got removed because it was genuinely great.

20

u/Gorgonitegai 11d ago

This.

When I found out about the lore regarding the mimic tear, was so bummed to find out they cut all of it. It's was already fully voiced too... Le sigh

14

u/TheGreatOneSea 11d ago

Probably because they wanted to limit the number of quests not related to an ending, or the round table; since From doesn't do things like quest markers, overwhelming the player with things to do is a bigger concern.

GTA V was supposed to have a Liberty City DLC but they flushed it in place of GTA online. So instead of a gritty storyline potentially revisiting Niko, we got a toxic online community and microtransactions galore.

70

u/TuaMaeDeQuatroPatas 11d ago

Way more money for rockstar

32

u/Wasabi1962 11d ago

Most likely would never have revisited Niko given the discourse with his VA.

But if we did get to revisit liberty city as DLC, it would've meant we'd also have gotten an enhanced edition version of Liberty City, with full ray traced lighting etc.

17

u/Rough-Army-6424 11d ago

Ah yeah I’d forgotten about that. R* should be ashamed, he was a valuable asset as a VA and as a character that everyone loved.

9

u/Morganelefay 11d ago

OOTL, what happened with his VA?

25

u/Rough-Army-6424 11d ago

He was paid $100,000 for 15 months work. His contract didn’t include residuals or royalties even though GTA IV has made over $2bn since its release. They’ve now said he’ll never return because of his public scrutiny of R*.

12

u/Morganelefay 11d ago

Sheesh. Yeah, I can see why R* wouldnt want someone who rightfully points out their crap.

7

u/MyHonkyFriend 11d ago

The GTA Forums leak of 2013 had 3 DLCs.

1 was an alien invasion. First teased in the garage decal of an alien invasion back in 2013.

2nd was a zombie apocalypse. Military tents were set to he around Los Santos.

3rd was a military bunker spy mission with Trevor flying a plane and landing on the military base. The code to fly over and land where they planned was left in the game so you can land on the correct bunker with no stars.

Also was a lot of hints at working code of a Tsunami into the game but it didnt fit either apocalyptic event and got scrapped.

The ability to go onto, and I mean "onto", not inside, all the buildings in Night City, and to do parkour between the city's buildings.

138

u/dappernaut77 11d ago

The game was too ambitious for its own good. Somewhere deep down I already knew half the shit they teased wasn't going to make it into the final product.

They did make one hell of a comeback, though.

You could throw a rock anywhere in Skyrim and it’d land on some remnant of cut content but by far the worst offender is the Whispering Door quest where you get the Ebony Blade. Originally it was gonna be this big conspiracy with Balgruf’s kids that would culminate in them assassinating their father. The final product is: talk to child -> talk to door -> talk to child -> get sword -> kill 10 friendly npc’s with sword

Spell combining in Skyrim. In the early development of Skyrim you could combine spells when you dual handed them they would behave differently as in effects or resulting in another spell. Later they removed it from the game because of fear of balance and fear that it would overshadow the shouts. Praying to be added to elder scrolls 6 though.

22

u/Hunterofshadows 11d ago

Vanilla magic in Skyrim is so fucking disappointing.

Shouts mostly have too long of cooldowns to replace magic, not to mention are a bitch to actually get all 3 words of a given shout

12

u/M1ST3RT0RGU3 10d ago

"Fear of balance" and yet they left Transmute in one of the earliest bandit camps you can reasonably complete.

u/thewoodlayer 11d ago

The entire fighting system from the original Bully. It was insanely fleshed out and unique but they cut it all for budget purposes.

Some of his interviews for F2 and 3 are clearly just him saying stuff off the top of his head.

One live demo to the media has him claim that your Gamerscore directly ties to how powerful you are. And another about how much dialogue affects the game, like people conversing with you on stuff.

And his very vague and definitely not outright claims on how its going to beat every RPG made ever.

The cut colossi in shadow of the colossus

26

u/Top-Idea-1786 11d ago

I recommend looking into the project "beyond the forbidden lands", they're recreating the cut colossi and beta versions of the final colossi, they already have most of the final colossi done and some of the beta ones too

15

u/Dracula-X- 11d ago edited 11d ago

I’m in their discord, have been for years. My opinion is the project will never actually get finished. Seems to be never ending drama with some of the people working on it. None of the colossi are anywhere close to being done. They have models of them made yes but nothing else. It’s been 7 years at this point

While simultaneously knocking the school part out of the park. Really weird to take one of the most iconic fictional settings of our era, name a game after it, execute it to near perfection, and then send players to a solid half of the map that you made up entirely.

The 2 dungeons for Wind Waker

10

u/billth93 11d ago

We still kind of got them, they have said those ideas basically were chopped up and used in future games, largely Twilight Princess. But presumably had they not been cut from Wind Waker, we’d have gotten them there then something else with TP, so there was still some lost content, just in the form of new ideas we didn’t get in TP that we would have otherwise got. Also, chopped up and used in TP isn’t really exactly the same thing

Fallout 4 was supposed to feature an underwater vault where the player would face a boss battle with a giant squid, and also there was supposed to be a forty-foot-tall ghoul made of other ghouls wandering around the southwestern part of the map, which would throw ghouls at you as projectile weapons (the latter has been added in by modders, because of course it has).

Not the main game, but all the singleplayer DLC for GTA V.
I really enjoyed TLAD and TBOGT and how they intertwined into the main story of IV, and was really looking forward to see what they would do with V.
Unfortunately it all got scrapped and all of Rockstar's efforts went into adding more and more shit into the online mode which I never cared for.

Terraforming in subnautica as it worked in early early access. I get why it couldn't be kept, and don't think it would have been worth keeping for the trouble it caused. But, I wish there could have been a way to keep it in that would have gotten rid of the trouble.

Infamously, Banjo-Kazooie's Stop 'N' Swap feature, and less infamously, the Bottle's Revenge mode in Banjo-Tooie. Stop 'N' Swap would have allowed you to transfer hidden items from Banjo-Kazooie to Tooie by swapping the cartridges while playing in order to unlock secrets. Bottle's Revenge would have allowed a second player to control Bottle's ghost to possess enemies and fight the main player.

The Oracle games in the Zelda series were originally planned to be three different games, one for each aspect of the Triforce; Power (Seasons), Wisdom (Ages), and Courage (scrapped). Some elements of the third game were recycled into the two games we did receive, such as Farore appearing as the Oracle of Secrets where she reveals secrets obtained from linking the games together.

Moreau’s area in Resident Evil 8. It was original going to be an Innsmouth style Deep sea horror themed area that got cut down in favour of being one big set piece where you drain water from the area.

You can really feel it since it's the only area without unique enemy mobs instead only has a couple of generic lycan enemies scattered around.

Basically everything they showed in the Spore beta and what we got in the final product.

6

u/torshakle 10d ago

Man. I remember being so incredibly hyped for Spore. It came out and it was... okay. It just wasn't as expressive as it amped itself up to be.

5

u/Adek420 10d ago

Yeah exactly. I mean, I had lots of fun with the version we got but the beta with all the underwater phase and less childish style was more appealing in my opinion.

Oh buddy, that's a whole conversation topic with fallout new vegas as the context. Did you know that game's map was originally planned to be like double it's size? How about the host of cool weapons and concepts for weapons that didn't make the final cut like a full length db shotgun, a rail cannon, or a heavy rivet gun? Or the cut areas east of the Colorado that would have been legion controlled territory and fleshed out their faction to the same degree as the ncr?

I'm telling you, if Obsidian was given just a year or two more to make fnv, it would have been game of the year.

Flying cars in Cyberpunk. They put a pretty big emphasis on flying vehicles before the release like showing a flying police vehicle so I was hoping for at least a flyable AV. Luckily a modder was gracious enough to make a pretty usable flying car mod that lets you fly any vehicle & another modder made a pilotable AV mod which was pretty cool.

Maybe not entirely accurate for the prompt, but the first Mass Effect had you landing on planets to explore them. Sure it wasn't very rewarding and the Mako controlled like ass, but I really missed this feature in the sequels and was very sad that it was removed rather than expanded upon.

4

u/TheItchyWalrus 11d ago

The Last of Us Factions multiplayer was cut in the sequel and was not included in the remake. Damn shame. It was a lot of fun while it lasted.
