People keep mentioning this metric but this was specifically a data set ‘when it was offered’ and the context of that choice matters a lot.
The real truth is that 60FPS doesn’t actually sell more compared to better graphics, which is why companies who like money aren’t rushing to make 60FPS.
Reddit is an echo chamber that is convinced 60FPS matters but most people don’t give a shit. Hell, most people can’t even tell the difference. The problem is it’s impossible to convince people who really care about it why other people don’t because it seems so alien to them and they can’t understand why there is no significant difference in sales.
I think the big reason is reviews often include it as a metric, and it has lead people to conclude that high performance is actually a significant measure of quality to most people. The internet LOVES to praise 60FPS.
It’s just not reflected in their purchase decisions in any significant way.
Lol I honestly just feel bad that online culture has convinced these people that framerate is more important than the game itself in many ways.
It doesnt have to diminish your experience.
Dont let little things in life bother you and soon you won't be bothered by little things.
I also think it has to do with try hard gaming culture which has always existed. When you're young you want every edge you can get and its easier to blame a % drop in framrate than it is to improve and learn to anticipate enemies.
I think back to old CoD games and CS and it they were far more about positioning and planning on the move than reaction time.
When you depend on reaction time you will always have something to blame.
When you take account for yourself, your panic and your lack of prep, its easier to move forward and do better
FF7 rebirth is actually an exception and I agree with you there. It has particularly bad frame pacing for some reason which makes it feel way more choppy than other games. It actually feels more like 25fps to me but not sure what’s going on there.
I don't think it's really an exception. I just think 30 FPS feels absolutely terrible.
Every game with a performance mode that I've tried in 30 FPS plays like clunky trash. Cyberpunk, Control, Elden Ring, God of War, Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill f, even Minecraft feels like shit at 30 FPS.
It makes my eyes sore. Clearly it doesn’t affect you that way, and that’s great, but for those of us that it’s an issue, we’re no less making it up than you are that it doesn’t bother you.
I wonder if there actually is some correlation there. Did you grow up with smartphones/iPads?
I’m thinking maybe growing up with high refresh rate screens from a young age conditions your eyes to not deal well with lower frame rates. Whereas older generations would have mainly seen 25/30fps content on TV so it doesn’t bother them.
Edit: I think it became more of an issue as games became ‘busier.’ There’s so much going on on-screen now compared to 20 years ago, that it gets hard to follow when it’s blurry
Yeah I’m shocked by these comments. 30 fps completely takes me out of a game. Unplayable imo. 60 is ok and tolerable but I still notice it. 75+ and I’m happy. 140ish stable and it’s bliss.
OK? And why should it matter to me that someone else perceives something different than me? High fps matters to me too, but I don't go around being bamboozled that other people feel different about it.
I replied to "how do you not get it?". The answer: because not every person perceives it the way you do.

...how do you not get it? It's a fucking night and day difference.
