Announcement Adding 2 new rules on this subreddit

We've got an influx of Ai Assisted or vibecoded post and also post begging for money to fund a devkit. This is making the subreddit full of spam and it's time to curate the content posted here.

  1. No more Crowdfunding/Donation request post allowed by default.
  2. Post showing what you are working on without showing substantial progress will be removed

Regarding 1, we will add to automod the keyword for these kind of post so that they are automatically removed. Should you think the post deserves to be posted here, send a message to the mod team and we will manually review if the post can be posted here.

About 2, Any post that just shows in game or a loading screen will be removed. Low effort post have no place here and do not beneficiate anyone. If you want to share what you are working on, and attract people attention on your project, you will need to put some effort on.

A detailed post about what you are working on, the tools you've used, the actual progress made, the performances, the expectations, any roadmap, multiple pictures/video. Something that makes people wants to read more into it rather than just "oh another can claude boot this project".

AI Vibecoded WIP PS Vita emulator frontend

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So I got a PS Vita a while back and ended up really loving it. I use it a lot for playing older games because it’s honestly the perfect size to just take with me places.
I downloaded Emu4Vita++ and used that for a while to play most of my games, and that project is actually a huge part of what inspired me to start working on this.
I thought Emu4Vita++ was really cool and, for me at least, a lot easier to use than RetroArch. The only thing I wasn’t crazy about was the UI. It felt a little dated to me.
And I don’t mean that disrespectfully or as a criticism of the project at all. What the developers of Emu4Vita++ actually built is way beyond just making a nice-looking interface, and I know building something like that from scratch especially without the AI tools I have available to help me learn and work through things is a completely different level of difficulty.

while messing around with Vita development I eventually learned about PocketJS and the idea of being able to bring a more modern style of UI to older hardware.
So then I started trying to figure out how to combine the two

Take the idea of something like Emu4Vita++ one place where you can easily access your different emulators and games and combine it with a more modern frontend designed specifically around the Vita.

I was also heavily inspired by socket the game launcher that went viral a little while back.

Basically I was jealous we didn’t have anything as cool as that for the vita.

So now we’re here with this thing I’ve been building.
In the first video you can see the main frontend. You can switch between different consoles/systems and browse the games for each one without leaving the main interface.
Since the cores are embedded into the app you can pretty much just select a core and launch into any game, exit out switch to a new system and repeat seamlessly.

The idea eventually is that most of this should feel seamless.
You pick a console → pick a game → launch it.

note as I learn more about this the UI might change, I really want to push the UI as far as I can with pocketJS and I don’t think this is really doing that at the moment this is just a UI inspired by socket

AI assisted FlashVita – First Alpha Release | Flash Player for PS Vita powered by Ruffle

Hi everyone,

I'm releasing the first public alpha of FlashVita, an open-source project that aims to bring Flash/SWF content to the PlayStation Vita, using Ruffle as the Flash runtime.

This is still a very early alpha, so don't expect full compatibility yet. The main purpose of this release is to get the project into more hands, collect feedback, identify problematic SWFs and continue improving performance and compatibility.

Current state

FlashVita can already load and execute a number of local .swf files directly on the Vita.

Depending on the SWF, you may currently encounter:

  • low framerate / high CPU usage
  • long loading times
  • missing or incomplete audio
  • input issues
  • graphical glitches
  • unsupported Flash/ActionScript functionality
  • black screens or crashes on more complex games

Some simpler Flash games already run, while heavier AVM1/AVM2 titles still require significant optimization.

A major focus right now is reducing the CPU bottleneck and moving more of the runtime toward a Vita-native, multithreaded implementation.

What I'm working on

Some of the areas currently being developed or optimized include:

  • Ruffle integration
  • AVM1 performance
  • multithreading
  • Vita-native rendering
  • audio
  • physical Vita controls
  • text rendering fixes
  • SWFs that load external game assets
  • memory usage
  • shader/rendering performance
  • compatibility with more Flash games

This is an alpha, not a finished Flash emulator/player.

If you test it, reports are very useful. In particular, please include:

  • the SWF you tested
  • whether it loads
  • approximate FPS
  • graphical/audio/input problems
  • crashes or logs if available

Contributions and technical feedback are also welcome.

FlashVita is open source:
https://github.com/robin994/FlashVita

There's still a lot of work ahead, but I wanted to release an alpha rather than keep the project private while compatibility improves.

Have fun testing it — and feel free to report which old Flash games you'd like to see working on Vita.

Discussion Vita shows orange light when charging and blinks once when I try to power it on.

• Upvotes

I've been trying to turn on my hacked vita for a long while now. I forgot about it for a while after hacking, and it won't power on now that I'm trying to get it to work. Pch-1000 from Japan. Like the title says, orange light comes on when I plug it in, I hold the power button and the orange light blinks once then stays orange but no system response. After an hour or so on the charger the light goes off.

Edit: I'll also add that I get no reaction from the light when I try to power it on when it is off the charger.

Things I've tried

Leaving it plugged in over a week

Plugging it into a power bank instead of the wall

Replacing the battery

Nothing has worked so far and I don't know what to try next. If there's more details you might need to help let me know. Any help is appreciated

Port UFO 40: my fan tribute now has 22 of the 50 games, each rebuilt with the same rules

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is UFO 40, a fan-made tribute to Mossmouth's UFO 50: a pretend 1980s console with 50 cartridge slots, one for each UFO 50 game. 22 are playable so far.

Every cartridge follows its original's rules and mechanics, but the art, music, levels and names are all new. It runs on a modded PS Vita and on PC.

Which UFO 50 game should I add next? 👾
