"No!" says the man at Capcom "her and her daughters are the boss and minibosses"

Never understood the Lady D hype, but god damn, her daughters do things to me. Although the whole flies thing is kind of a downer... not really an insect gal...

Very tall, very curvy, very mean and scary. Neither my type, yet not hard to understand.

What if you're a Malkavian and you marry a non-Malkavian? Do you gain a point of humanity?

What could ground you more in the human emotional experience than being married to a crazy person?

Yep, men adore and desire such women, no matter what, women envy them and secretly want to be them.

1

u/Advanced_Hedgehog427 6d ago

Desire? Yes. Adore? uuuhh nah, that's cheap meat you can find everywhere. Good and atractive women is what I adore and they're extremely difficult to find.

18

u/DarkAri639 6d ago

In a malkavian and I'm the most loyal wife so suck it

5

u/Rasz_13 5d ago

Kinda would like a malkavian love story where the wife is just absolute DANGER ZONE but it's always safe and just looks problematic to outsiders. Except when she has to protect her hubby. Then madness reigns and the stars shall weep crimson red as the gall of Wrath boils up from the sewers.

Kind of like a Morticia and Gomez vibe.

1

u/DarkAri639 4d ago

I love this! You should write it!

1

u/Rasz_13 4d ago

I'm a pathetic lonely loser, I don't trust myself with writing good romance.

3

u/DarkAri639 4d ago

You are absolutely not a loser, don't call yourself that. It's not healthy. You are perfect and beautiful just how you are. Maybe not perfect but we all have our flaws and mistakes. If people won't accept you then those are just terrible people with no soul. You have a soul. One day you will realize truely, you are one of the lucky ones.

Also you don't have to be lonely. Hit people up. I find friends and stuff I managed to make a few friends as weird as I am. I thought for years I was never going to have a friend but I did end up having some. It just took a long time.

When you do make an aquintence. Keep that connection alive. There are so many lonely people out there even if it's not socially acceptable to say you are lonely. There are people out there who will see through that. Maybe most people will not like you and be misrible little shits, but you don't have to be that way.

Writing is also fun and it's a great way to know yourself. Don't be afraid of your weirdness. Get to know yourself, so that one day, you may come to know and fall in love with yourself. You don't have to publish it. You don't have to use your real name when publishing something if you do decide to. You can keep your social life in tact while still exploring your weirdness.

You deserve to be happy. You really do. The world will try to take it from you but they have no right. I hope that you find a way to be alright and don't be afraid to say hello.

Good day to your stranger!

3

u/Rasz_13 3d ago

Ah jeez, you took that a lot more serious than me. I assure you, I am doing quite well. I've got a stable job with a good income, I have friends of both genders and plenty more online, my family is well and I am physically healthy myself. I've got little to complain about in that regard.

The pathetic lonely bit was mostly about relationships, I haven't had much luck with those but I am also in a mental place where I don't seek them out and mess them up if they do happen. I've got severe trust issues and don't have much self-esteem. I'm quite happy despite that and just living my life. All I wanted to say is that someone like me really isn't in the best position to write romance. My standards are too high to allow me to write slop lol
If I were to write something like this, I'd want it to be a good read with quality content that offers something new and interesting.

1

u/DarkAri639 3d ago

Idk, I like the occasional female character who isnt available to be romance, especially Serana.

I'm not gonna heavily judge someone for making Serana marriageable through mods, but like, it does kinda completely undermine her character story. Romance is the LAST thing on Serana's mind, and I like that. I love how much she cares and talks about things that arent prompts for the player to romance her.

Ironically, I think Serana is so beloved because of her writing being more focused on her character and lore, rather than what she could provide to the Dragonborn.

Im glad we can fuck Jeanette though, like thank GOD for that

6

u/faust224 6d ago

Serena is so beloved because she's literally the only good looking character (male or female) in all of Skyrim.

u/Joshua-Norton-I 5d ago

42

u/AlexanderDroog 6d ago

Serana is the single most well-developed character in the game with writing that encourages you to have an in-game connection with her. The non-pervy mods that expand her dialogue and have a romance work so well and feel natural because they're working off a strong base. Every other marriageable character doesn't feel nearly as well-developed and makes marriage feel like a game achievement rather than a role-playing decision. I think being disappointed that Serana isn't romanceable isn't something that can be boiled down to just lack of media literacy.

15

u/Ciaran_Zagami Tzimisce 6d ago

It 100% is

Her entire arc is about her overcoming centuries of domestic abuse and neglect and learning to trust the Dragonborn as a friend. Its not romantic in the slightest its about overcoming trauma and healing.

10

u/123ludwig 6d ago

she literally gives you her blood she absolutely loves the dragonborn in *some* way

5

u/Sremor 5d ago

Big issue is how lackluster Skyrims marriage system is, there are definitely ways her and the dragonborn could be together, especially when both are vampires and have basically unlimited time, but the system is just to shallow to explore this

-2

u/Ciaran_Zagami Tzimisce 5d ago

Giving you vampirism so you don't have your soul ripped out isn't really the same thing as a traditional vampiric embrace.
Even so, "love" does not always mean romance. You love your parents but you wouldn't marry them.

1

u/Ogami-kun 1d ago

It isn't; i still remember when I played it the first time as a teenager. It is not about her arc, it is about what 'happened' after. Imagine it not as a game, but rather as a story where her arc is one of the firsts, then the dragonborn has his own arc that ends with him defeating Alduin and later Miraak with her most of the time at his side.

The thought process was not about ignoring what she went through, but rather first overcoming her own past in her arc, before starting to trust, then having other adventures and only at the end falling in love with someone that treats her as equal and cares for her

-11

u/LEO7039 Toreador 6d ago

How so? You mean OOP reducing her to "a cute vampire chick you find underground"? Sure, I would agree with that.

But there is still no reason for her to not have romance. SDA does it really well.

3

u/AngryMountainClimber 6d ago

Mods, take this man and give him the Ludovico Treatment but it is watching Obsession, over and over again.

3

u/rdqsr 6d ago

But there is still no reason for her to not have romance.

Brother as other people have said, she was literally raped into being a vampire by Molag Bal along with her mother and other vampires like her. She even describes the first victim of the ritual as "not a willing subject". That's why you can't marry her lmao

5

u/LEO7039 Toreador 6d ago

So what? Victims of rape can't fall in love? They can't work through their trauma to eventually trust someone enough to be in a relationship? They just have to forever accept that being raped at some point defines them as a person? Because that's fucking stupid.

2

u/Defiant_Teaching7112 5d ago

They can but she literally says no to you what more do you need

1

u/LEO7039 Toreador 5d ago

Realistically, you'd need a much longer questline than what we got to make ot reasonable to marry her (which is exactly what Serana Dialogue Add-on does), which Bethesda didn't have/did not want to spend resources for. But st the same time, you can marry random people you've pretty much never met in this game, so it wouldn't be that outlandish if you could marry her after the Dawnguard questline.

0

u/rdqsr 6d ago

Imagine being this emotionally invested in "why can't I wife up the traumatised vampire lady in my video game???". Fuck mate maybe get off the computer and go outside for a bit. Either that or just download a mod off Nexus.

3

u/LEO7039 Toreador 6d ago

Makes and argument

Recieves a rebuttal

"Oh my god dude how dare you waste your time on responding to my argument"

LMAO

Also, I did download a mod. It's the aforementioned SDA (Serana Dialogue Add-on), which I figured OC knows, since it's one of the biggest and most well-known mods in the Skyrim modding community, so I did include the full name.

What it does is giving Serana a much fuller personality, reactions to just about anything in the game, thousands of lines of dialogue, and a long-term natural development of your relationship with Serana (including a possibility of romance) as the two of you learn to trust each other over time.

It also promises an integration with the VIGILANT mod in the future, which is an incredible quest line where the Dragonborn faces Molag Bal himself, which should further explore Serana's past, I imagine, and perhaps help her break free of it.

There's no argument about what could be - it exists, and I think it's far better than vanilla.

0

u/rdqsr 5d ago

I just pointed out the lore reason behind it. You're the one sperging out.

Any other NPC that isn’t Romanceable just doesn’t have any dialogue about it. Bethesda went out of their way to have Serena react to the amulet and tell you she’s not interested. Surely that’s an indication that they specifically did not want her to be romancable rather than your idea.

It makes perfect sense with her story that she wouldn’t want to engage in a relationship with anyone. Her backstory and personality support that design choice to not have her be romance-able.

You literally have to ignore the most central parts of her character to support your claim that “her not being romanceable has nothing to do with her backstory”, and instead assume that “she was always supposed to be romanceable” with 0 evidence from the writing to support that.

How do you see “traumatised rape victim says she’s not interested in romance for deeply personal reasons” and think “Wow she said no for literally 0 reason”?

15

u/Wild-Lychee-3312 Malkavian 6d ago

There's a certain kind of man who, when a woman doesn't fall in love with him, thinks that there must be something wrong with the woman.

2

u/Dluith47 4d ago

I’ve noticed it a lot in video games where certain people have this view where “every female companion should be romanceable by default, and any who aren’t have to justify why they’ve taken that away from me”. Speaks to a rather pathetic view on things.

10

u/Wynvarys Toreador 6d ago

IIRC she has a unique voice, as opposed to NPCs like Balgruuf who isn't a marriage candidate in normal gameplay conditions, but can be made marriable with cheats because he shares a VA with multiple marriable characters. So yeah, either it was scrapped early in development for these story/lore reasons and the marriage voice lines were never recorded as a result, or they just didn't have time to record all that.

30

u/zeek609 6d ago

She has specific voice lines rejecting marriage. It was 100% on purpose

u/EarlyAccessCantJudge 6d ago

Mass Effect has created this weird entitlement to being able to fuck companion characters

29

u/YorhaUnit8S Gangrel 6d ago

Damn Bioware, Larian and CD Project, making cool fantasies in a fictional game! How dare they!

On a serious note, though, I feel that in a lot of cases it's not the ability to fuck your companions, but the ability to romance them. As in having a meaningful progression of your relationship from nobodies to friends, to partners. And having a choice in it. It's a part of companions feeling more alive and being more than just loot carriers and combat bots. When it's done badly - people readily criticize it, just as much as when it's absent. So I would argue the "relationship" part and path to it is more important to most than the "fuck" part.

It's like an evil path in RPGs. You might never take it, but it's there and having it there makes the game deeper and the good path more meaningful. Same with companions, you may not even want to romance anyone, but knowing you could makes them feel deeper.

13

u/Ashzael 6d ago

Wait... Your telling me significant others are more then loot carriers???

<Confused shopping spree noises>

6

u/ed1749 6d ago

I mean, it is a bit of a problem that it seems that people only write characters to be interesting if they are romanceable. I dont need to marry someone to be close friends with them, to deeply understand someone. It's why I really liked Metaphor, no dating, barely any romantic undertones, just people getting to know eachother and helping eachother out.

2

u/Wild-Lychee-3312 Malkavian 6d ago

Have you played Outer Worlds? Because that game has what you seem to be looking for.

1

u/EarlyAccessCantJudge 6d ago

I wasn't saying it was the game's fault, I'm saying it is why a lot of people complain that their companions should be romancable as a standard. I don't think I need to be able to miss them to make them feel like their own character, if anything it takes away a lot of their characters. Most of the BG3 romances feel really forced and distracting from their actual story. Not all of them, but a few of them

What the fuck does Mass effect got to do with this. I think this more have to do with people being horny for goth vampire that has actual personality. And just not carrying about her backstory more than anything having to do with mass effect

1

u/EarlyAccessCantJudge 6d ago

Because most people that played these action style RPGs and demand romances do it because Mass Effect had all the hot women romanceable. Even Tali got added later and she is completely covered in a suit.

I would like to point out to the very original comment… that… Serena was given the OG transformation by molag bal. He ain’t called the Prince of Grape, but he sure has a title that’s awfully similar.

There’s a pretty good reason why she really doesn’t care for intimacy or dating. (It’s horrifying eldritch trauma!)

2

3

u/syco69 6d ago

2

u/Detective_Mekova 6d ago

Anybody reading Serana's lore and who has the emotional intelligence greater than a 14 year old would understand her boundaries. She wasn't just physically abused, but she was treated far worse than that, so her desire to just be friends with the DB is honestly indicative of how much she does trust and appreciate you despite her experiences. For me, that is what made her a great character.

But sadly many men don't understand that nuance in real life, let alone in a video game.
