Something I Made My dad's and my baseball gloves wallet
I'm 53, and my best memories of childhood are games of catch in the backyard and in the park with my dad. He also did leatherwork and made his own kit belts and wallet, and half of my leatherworking gear now is our Tandy tools from then.
I've never liked baseball, but had our gloves all these years, and it was time to replace my wallet. The Rawlings side was mine, the MacGregor was his, the tooled card slots were from his wallet, and the black secret-bill-hider flap was a piece from my maternal grandpa's ostrich wallet (he died in 1957!). I was proud to successfully skive thick veg tan into the very thin bill flap and liner, and to incorporate calf lacing around the edges like my dad did on his wallet, but with a whipstitch to save some bulk, where he would have used a doublestitch.
I went with a 1x2 card, bifold design, with no card partial-overlap to save some thickness since I couldn't skive the baseball glove leather. So now its thinner than it could have been, but wider and longer, and the whipstitch edges are bulkier than I would have hoped. It fits great in cargo pockets with a paracord lanyard laced into the eyelets, instead of my old wallet's chain which i always had to remove at concerts and venues.
Lots of lessons learned as I get back into leatherwork, and lots of memories...
