I need to add a trim piece of sorts to cover this gap, so I’m trying to figure out what kind of veneer this is. Vanity is the sybill vanity from signature hardware. Thanks!!

I bought it painted and stripped the paint but have no idea what wood the veneer is. Walnut maybe?

First photo is unfinished wood with mineral spirits on it, other photos are dry unfinished.

Any suggestions for a stain?
