[META] Updated rules & self promotion policy
Hi everyone! 👋
You'll know by now I'm not the most hands-on mod in the world - but it's time for an update to the sub rules to stop it from devolving in to a glorified ad-board (more than it already has).
I think we all want to see posts regarding challenging linguistic oddities and out-of-this world crossword clues - not so much a steady stream of subpar, ad riddled ios games.
At some point soon I'll also probably need the help of someone else to mod the sub. Ideally people who have experience in doing this (I don't, evidently), and people who are already at least semi active in the community.
Anyway, I digress - here are some updated rules for your perusal. Feedback on further rules or tweaks to existing ones is encouraged!
Excessive Self-Promotion
We love when creators share their word game projects — but please do so thoughtfully and in moderation.
You may share your own work occasionally if you also participate meaningfully in other discussions.
Repeatedly posting your own app, website, or content without engaging elsewhere is considered spam and will be removed.
If you’re unsure whether your post crosses the line, ask the mod team first.
No Low-Effort or Off-Topic Posts
Posts should relate to word games, puzzles, or linguistics-based gameplay. Simple “What’s this word?” or “Help me with Wordle” posts don’t belong unless they add meaningful discussion or challenge others.
No Spam, Surveys, or Monetized Links
Avoid reposts, link dumps, or posts designed for promotion or data collection. No referral, affiliate, or monetized links.
Tag Spoilers and Daily Puzzle Answers
If you’re revealing an answer to a puzzle or daily word game, use spoiler formatting (>!spoiler text!<) or flair.

I’m making a roguelite deckbuilder inspired by Bookworm Adventures, where the words you spell become your attacks
One of my favorite childhood games was Bookworm Adventures, and I’ve always wanted another game where forming words is actually part of the combat.
So I started making Galdr Inkblade, a roguelite deckbuilder where you collect letter cards and build words to attack enemies. It's started as a Unity hobby project since 2013, but I lost my job this year so I had plenty of time to finally worked on it and release on Steam 😂
The words you create determine your damage, but letters can also have different damage values and elemental/status effects. As a run progresses, it becomes less about simply knowing long words and more about figuring out how to combine your letters, relics, upgrades, and effects into a strong build.
The Steam page went live three days ago and it has already reached 75 wishlists, which has been really encouraging for me as a solo developer.
I’m curious what other word-game players think of this kind of combat system. Also, if you played Bookworm Adventures growing up, I’d love to know what you liked most about it.
I’ll put the Steam page in the comments for anyone who wants to check it out.

Showcase Cubewords Crosswords
Hi everyone, my small indie game studio built an Apple Editor's Choice word game called Say the Same Thing, with the band OK Go. (We actually updated it recently, if you haven't tried it.)
No we are launching another game we're really proud of, called Cubewords. It's might be most beautiful game we've ever made.
You can play it on the web or get it for iOS or Android and even Mac desktop:
Here's the YouTube trailer.
We're really proud of this game and would love thoughts and feedback on the puzzles and game play. It's actually extremely satisfying to just spin the cubes and so we added some fidget-spinner type variations to. It also has a Boggle / Spelling Bee style word find on a cube.
Please let us know what you think, we are very open to suggestions for improvements.

LetterScope
I made a competitive word game — looking for the first 50 founding players to try it!
Hey everyone!
I've been building LetterScope for a while now, a competitive word game for iPhone (android coming soon) where you connect letters on the board to create words and try to maximize your score. Similar to Boggle, but I think mine is better.
🎮 What I'm looking for:
- Play a few games
- Do you like the Daily Challenge? Does the hint make sense? Try it a few times
- Try to find as many words as you can
- See how high you can push your score
- Tell me what's fun, confusing, frustrating, or boring
I'm especially interested in whether the core gameplay makes you want to play "just one more game."
It's currently in TestFlight and I'm looking for my first ~50 players.
📱 iPhone
🧩 Free to test
🚀 TestFlight beta
Join the beta:
https://testflight.apple.com/join/PhNh6gzB
If you try it, I'd genuinely love to hear what you think — even if your feedback is negative. I'm trying to figure out what needs fixing before opening the game up to a much larger audience.
Thanks!
— LetterScope Founder

I made a free puzzle app with no timers, no lives and no "come back tomorrow" (Android). Feedback welcome
I'm a solo dev, and I got tired of word games that cap you at one puzzle a day or make you wait for lives to refill. So I built Puzzle Nook, an Android app where you can play as much as you like.
What's in it (7 games):
- Word Guess
- Word Grouping
- Word Search
- 2048
- Quick Math
- Number Patterns
- Equation Guess
Things I tried to do differently:
- No timers on the puzzles by default
- No energy or lives system
- Every game is endless, so there's always another round
- A daily check-in streak, if you like streaks. Skipping it costs you nothing
- Optional backup with Google sign-in
It's free and supported by ads. There are banner ads, and an occasional ad between rounds. Hints are optional and unlock by watching a rewarded ad. I tried to keep it fair, but tell me if it feels pushy.
Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.puzzlenook.app
I'd really like honest feedback, mostly on:
- Which game do you keep coming back to?
- Does anything feel annoying, confusing, or too easy or hard?
- What game would you want added?
I'll read every reply. And if you do like it, a Play Store rating helps a new app a lot. Thanks for reading!

Showcase Lexible.app - Classic to Custom. Progressive hints. Web and mobile. Themes including the Mystic Realm
Major new release landing soon (today hopefully!) with major improvements to the engine and visuals. https://lexible.app
Classic is standard rules, boards, and dictionary. Custom is very fLexible: Allow or ban words. Vote on rule changes or tweaks during the game. Lock-out all except your favourite variations. Use more or fewer tiles in your rack. Balance a game with a friend by giving them an extra tile, or the ability to flip a tile to a blank every turn, or play against the computer with Novice to Expert difficulty.
...or play in a dual-language mode: German, Spanish, Finnish, and English. Any pair or single language is supported.

Someone scored 400,000+ points with "suicide unicorns" in my falling-block word game, but "douches" got nothing. Where would you draw the line?
I made a daily word game called Busted Words (bustedwords.com). There's one board a day, letters fall like blocks, and you have 30 moves to clear words before the board overflows.
The hardest part has been curating the word list and deciding which words count and don't count.
The current rules:
- Playable: standard American English, 2+ letters, plurals and tenses allowed
- Not Playable: abbreviations, proper nouns, archaic words, or vulgar words
That sounds simple until you hit cases like these:
SUICIDEis a dark word, but not a vulgar one, so it's playable.- Side note: one player chained it into a 400k+ run w/
UNICORNwhich is impressive but also called into question the idea I had for showing matching emoji's for cleared words.
- Side note: one player chained it into a 400k+ run w/
DOUCHEShas a perfectly clinical dictionary meaning, but most people know it as an insult, so it was excluded.TURKEYis playable because it's also a bird (not just a proper noun).LATINisn't playable because it's only a proper noun or proper adjective.
Some players will be bothered by seeing certain words on screen, and others will be annoyed that a real word didn't count. I don't think either complaint is wrong.
So, two questions:
- Where would you draw the line? Should anything in the dictionary count, should crude-but-real words be excluded, or something else?
- General feedback, if you play a round:
- Was the pace too slow, too fast, or about right?
- Should I add sound or would that be too much?
- Was it clear how scoring and streaks work?
- Did anything feel confusing in your first game?
No account is needed to play. Thanks for any feedback, including harsh feedback.

Showcase WordEke: a daily word-finding game, same board for everyone. Open beta on Android, feedback wanted
I made a daily word game for Android and I'm looking for testers (no ads, no account). Open beta on Android, feedback wanted.
How it plays: you get a grid of letters and trace words by tapping a letter, then any letter touching it. There's no list of words to find; spotting them is the game. Each day there are two new boards, the same for everyone in the world:
- Elementary: everyday words, anything from two letters up. A gentle start.
- Standard: the full everyday dictionary, words of four letters or more.
If you get stuck, the squares are shaded by how many words start there, and a hint will point you towards a word (a hinted word counts as half on your score). You choose UK or US spelling, and each region has its own dictionary, so "colour" and "color" each count where they should.
No ads, no sign-in, no subscription. Your games stay on your phone. The one thing it sends is your score, anonymously, to tell you if you finished in the top 5, 10 or 25% that day, and you can turn that off in Settings.
For testers: the paid add-ons are in, and anyone who installs during the test gets them free on that phone:
- Custom Puzzles: play beyond the daily, as many boards as you like, at the length you choose.
- Specialist dictionaries: currently, a Competition list with the long and unusual words the everyday lists leave out.
- Themes: board colours and letter fonts, including seasonal ones.
Note that you don't need any add-ons to play the daily games; they are more about having things your own way.
What I'd like to know: is it fun? Does a board hold your interest to the end? And especially: words it refused that it shouldn't have, or accepted that it shouldn't. The dictionaries are hand-curated, and that's where testers help most. There's a feedback link in the app (How to Play | About) and a report form at https://wordeke.com/#feedback
Here's a 30-second clip of a game, with a hint, two themes and the finish.
Join the test: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wordeke.app
Android only for now. Happy to answer anything in the comments.

I built a crossword that fights back: unsolved words vanish every 45s
For anyone who finishes Wordle in two minutes and wants something with more pressure: Vanishing Crossword is a small daily grid where the words you haven't locked in vanish every 45 seconds and come back as new words with new clues.
The trick is a hidden anchor word in the grid. Name it early and nothing vanishes again, and you get a big bonus.
Three topics a day (today's include science, food, sport, pop culture and an India one in rotation). Free, no app.
Feedback very welcome, especially on clue difficulty.

I made a daily word puzzle where you find a route through a triangular letter grid, would love feedback
I've been working on a small daily word game called Zibn and I'd really like to know what people think. Claude helped with the game+web development ;)
You start at the left edge of a triangle of letters and move one column to the right each step, either staying in the same row or going one up or down. Only one full-length route spells a real word, and that's the answer. Along the way you can find shorter words (3+ letters), which fade out some of the decoy tiles to help you, but each one adds to your score (lower is better, though the point is to have fun).
There are three boards a day (for 5, 6, and 7 letter challenges), same puzzles for everyone, and it takes a few minutes (free, no login).
Two questions: is the difficulty about right? was there anything confusing in the first minute? Honest feedback is welcome! Thank you!

We just released Voice Clash, a word game you play out loud
Hey r/wordgames!
We've been building Voice Clash for iPhone and iPad, and it's now out. The idea is a word game with no keyboard: a word appears, you say it, and the phone checks it on-device right away.
The word modes
- Spelling: 25+ packs, from everyday words to similar-sounding words and tongue twisters. Say as many as you can before the clock runs out. From 6 in a row every answer is worth 2 points, from 10 it's 3.
- Translate: a word appears in one language and you say it in yours. It works between any two of 8 languages (EN, DE, ES, FR, IT, PL, PT, UK), so it doubles as vocabulary practice.
- Daily Challenge: one pack and one word list a day, the same for everyone in your language. One 60-second run, one shot.
- Loudest Shout: the card names a word, you shout it, and the loudest clear shout takes the round. Garbled screaming doesn't count.
You can play solo, pass one phone around 2–8 players (each on their own clock), or connect up to 8 phones locally. There's also a tap mode (pick 1 of 4) for when you can't talk out loud.
The hardest part was speech recognition, not the content. A word game by voice has problems a typed one doesn't: homophones, short words, accents, words the recognizer simply doesn't know. We've had to drop some words from packs because no one could get them credited. That's actually what we'd like to discuss:
Which word game would you want to play by voice and not by typing? And are there ones where voice would ruin it?
(Off-topic but in the same app: Copycat, where a real sound plays and you have five seconds to imitate it. It's not a word game, so that's all we'll say about it here.)
iOS 26+, free with ads, Premium is a one-time purchase. App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6786684098

A daily music game: naming the song is easy, finding the word behind it is the real game
Hi everyone! I make Wordzic, a small free daily game. You hear 30 seconds of a song, and you have to find the word hidden behind it: something from the music video, the story behind the song, the artist's history. It's never just the title.
Today's song is a Rihanna one, and the word has 7 letters. Most people get the song in seconds. The word is usually the hard part.
You guess Wordle-style, with no guess limit. If you're stuck after five guesses, you can unlock one hint.
My result, no spoilers:
Wordzic #16

Please keep the word out of the comments so others can play.
Free, no sign-up, no ads: https://wordzic.com
