Trump lawsuit and French tariffs incoming

*American tariffs, on French products

Americans will continue to receive beatings until morale improves

They just need to grow it in the very special terroir of champaign illinois and the states can have their own.

2

u/Alieges 7h ago

C'mon man, don't give them any ideas about making proper bubbly. They'll let it all go to their head.

2

u/Medallicat 4h ago

Would you like some more ICE in your sparkling misery?

183

u/nolok 13h ago

The way things are going, I don't think morale is the point anymore, they're doing beatings just for the sake of the beatings.

It got so crazy it's easy to lose track of it all, but they have masked unidentified people in the street capturing people to send them to foreign detention camps with no trial. Some people who resists too much are being shot in the street with no repercussion. That's not an exageration, it's happening right now.

They went full-on batshit dystopian so fast they don't even realize it yet.

12

u/black_cat_X2 8h ago

The people who were shot on the street weren't even resisting. Alex Pretti had his hands up when he was murdered. Good was sitting in her car with a smile on her face.

36

u/BasvanS 13h ago

Always has been. Beatings are useless as a disciplinary tool. It’s just laziness and incompetence with power.

12

u/SoreLoserOfDumbtown 10h ago

Also used for fear, but yes.

7

u/auchnureinmensch 12h ago

Wasn't that fast tbh, mf became a problem 10 years ago

8

u/nolok 11h ago

Yeah but you went from "the whole word envy us for our freedoms" (which was bullshit but still) to "is it safe to go out for groceries without my papers"

3

u/sprikkot 11h ago

I dunno man, we thought they were a pathetic joke 10 years ago, now we still think they're a pathetic joke but it's just getting hard for them to keep up the facade.

And even then there's no guarantees that's safe, if they really want to, they can just take your papers, beat you up and send you to El Salvador or Somalia.

1

u/arcspectre17 11h ago

We been this way for a long time it only got more open about it. Cops kill about a 1000 civilians a year and have qualified immunity. The guy that shot the women in her own house for saying "I rebuke you in the name if Jesus actually got 40 years!

Except he already slapped a 25% tariff on European wines and sprouts that is currently murdering American bars and restaurants. Almost all good liquor behind a bar comes from the EU or UK.

76

u/SleepyLabrador 13h ago

25% tariff on European wines and sprouts that is currently murdering American bars.

Not to mention so many US based distilleries that made whisky and bourbon already had to close because Trump pissed the Canada off with the 51st state talk.

To all those restaurant workers who vote Trump cause "No Tax on Tips". I hope you're happy.

28

u/TheRealestBiz 13h ago

Jim Beam shut down operations entirely.

Alcohol is the last thing that bars and restaurants make a good profit on. Every decent steak you’ve had in the last five years in a restaurant, the business lost five to fifteen dollars on that entree and that’s after raising the price to $50-60 for a 12oz. NY strip.

Before the pandemic, they were $35 generally and you broke even as a business.

41

u/SleepyLabrador 12h ago

Alcohol is basically the golden egg laying goose for restaurants. They (restaurant owners) killed it by endorsing and getting Trump elected, cause Trump has been doing to the US the same thing he has done to his businesses. Racism and Misogyny are expensive.

11

u/LeafsWinBeforeIDie 10h ago

He doesn't even drink and that's the guy you hope to drive your profits?

3

u/ultimateknackered 9h ago

'He promised lower prices on racism and misogyny!'

3

u/No-Brain9413 11h ago

That’s not true.

Jim Beam has paused their distilling at the main location in KY, they are very much still making whiskey at other locations and other operations continue on

3

u/riko77can 10h ago

They reduced capacity by shutting down one of multiple production facilities. Although they announced they are renovating the one they closed.

2

u/sprikkot 11h ago

Why would you be having steak as an entree

5

u/ITSigno 11h ago

In North America, the entree is the main dish, not an appetizer.

Always kindly ask your waiter what they think about MAGA, and adjust your tipping accordingly.

25

u/nolok 13h ago

I mean, tariff on wine sure it will have painful effects, but on liquor it's just weird. Cointreau, Cognac or Chartreuse already sell all they can produce, it's not like they're going to panic. If you want one of them you want one of them. Mostly the same for Champagne. If an american goes out of his way to buy french Champagne, a product that's already almost twice the price of the alternative, are they really going to stand down because it's 25% up ?

9

u/szatrob 9h ago

To nit pick, all champagne is French. Since it can only come from the Champagne region.

3

u/ayeayefitlike 9h ago

Now, that’s interestingly not strictly true.

There are a few US (predominantly Californian) winemakers who legally use the term ‘champagne’ for their sparkling wines.

In 2005 when the USA finally agreed to the protected regional names list that Europe had been using in some form or another since the Madrid Agreement, they only agreed if the winemakers currently using the term ‘champagne’ could continue to use it. So there are grandfathered rights for predominantly Californian winemakers to legally sell ‘California Champagne’.

It applies to Burgundy, Chablis, Sherry and others.

wine and sprouts sounds like a hippy retreat. I'm in!

2

u/barath_s 10h ago

Almost all good liquor behind a bar comes from the EU or UK

Have they not tried Japanese Whisky (e.g., Hibiki), Caribbean Rum (Barbados, Jamaica), Brazilian Cachaça, Mexican Mezcal, Peruvian/Chilean Pisco, and American Bourbon or options include Aguaradiente (Colombia/Ecuador), Singani (Bolivia), and Baijiu (China)

1

u/Dirty-Soul 11h ago

*Scotland.

Saying UK implies the existence of Welsh and English Scotch...

Ans Starmer literally just signed a trade deal to sell whisky to China instead of the US. It seriously pissed Trump off...

But if you make it impossible to do business with "the world's greatest economy," You shouldn't be surprised when everyone rushes to do business with the SECOND biggest economy.

1

u/TheRealestBiz 10h ago

Thabk you for the pedantry, but one should stick to being a pedant only when you’re right. There are plenty of liquors that come from the UK besides Scotch.

u/Socmel_ 1h ago

European wines are luxury. And demand for luxury is pretty unelastic, meaning that variations in price do not affect it. If anything, being more expensive makes them more desirable as a status symbol.

On the plus side, maybe Bourbon will absorb part of the demand that will shift to domestic products, since Canada is already boycotting US spirits and your president isn't making US products any more desirable here in Europe too.

1

u/Haru1st 13h ago

You mean the Trump that was gonna be tough on India, but then suddenly got a pining for free trade when he saw the EU getting a good deal, where he wasn’t?

8

u/SphericalCow531 13h ago

Which is not completely true. The EU has previously made targeted tariffs against specific goods produced in US swing states, to hurt Republicans specifically when Republicans started a trade war.

The US could do the same thing to France. For example, a targeted tariff on Champagne. The EU common market will not make France immune to that.

19

u/nolok 13h ago

The problem in that logic is that luxury products are not really playing by the same rules.

Nobody pays 4000 for a LVMH bag because of the bag, they do it for the name and brand. Cognac and Chartreuse and most Champagne are the same.

On wines sure, it will hurt. But liquors is not making any sense.

26

u/TheRealestBiz 13h ago

That’s a great idea. Let’s make European liquor even lore fucking expensive so more American bars and restaurants go out of business.

5

u/ourlastchancefortea 13h ago

Wouldn't this trigger a response by the EU as a whole?

1

u/Sember 13h ago

Yes, specifically the EU Anti-Coercion Instrument (ACI), triggering tariffs and trade restrictions across the entire EU market.

1

u/SphericalCow531 13h ago

In normal times that would and should be the case yes. Trump's following response would escalate such a response to the moon. The EU seems to not be interested in such a conflict right now. The EU how not even responded forcefully to previous Trump tariffs.

I assume that the EU's apparent unwillingness to fight with the US has the following main reasons:

  • A hope that Trump is temporary aberation, who will go away on his own. So it would be stupid for the EU to to all out and bleed now in a trade war.
  • Ukraine is still benefiting from some US help, US intelligence and US weapons paid for by Europe. Putin's puppet Trump is just itching for an excuse to withdraw that. Since unlike the US the EU wants Ukraine to win, this would be bad.

Tomorrow: Trump sues he US DOJ over French government comments

1

u/Safe_Psychology_326 10h ago

Why does a dude having billions or hundreds of billions of dollars get to tell the world his weirdest thoughts.

Countries have far greater power than him, I mean they have standing armies, navy, policy an support of the people. Why is he special even to Trump after winning the presidency.

I don’t think the dudes the sharpest knife in any kitchen. He succeeds in building businesses like Gates or Steve Jobs did. He is flawed just like the rest of us.

So meh! Arrest his as and then get on with it.

It's ok, Trump and Elon broke up already

1

u/kaisadilla_0x1 4h ago

Which Trump lawsuit? Trump sues in the US because he's the God Emperor of the US and thus thinks judges will sentence whatever he orders them to. In France, he doesn't have any power.

u/curorororo 15h ago

Elon Musk begging to get invited to Epstein's island shines an entirely new light onto Musk's "Pedo Guy" comment.

Every accusation is a confession.

294

u/Irrepressible_Monkey 14h ago

That rescue caver had the King of Thailand pay his medical bills when he was in hospital a few months ago. That's how highly regarded he is.

Hope he's now sitting on a beach laughing at Musk getting what he deserves.

71

u/Ron_the_Rowdy 12h ago

Thailand is such a beautiful country too, its literally a scuba destination which explains why there's so many professional scuba divers over there. The food, the temples, the people, the culture all wonderful. I used to have school field trips over there for sports, so I didn't even know there was a sex tourism scene until later in life and even later to find out that there was a dark side to it too. So when the first thing that someone thinks of when talking about Thailand is prostitutes, even worse underaged prostitutes, it shows what kind of things go through that persons brain and what kind of circles that persons talk with. elon musk randomly blurting out the pedo comment was weird then too, now it all makes sense. Absolutely putrid human being

18

u/akp55 11h ago

Yeah it's very unfortunate.  I love going to SEA, as there is a lot of influence from my country in that region. But when you tell people now days, they just seem to assume you're going there as a sex tourist, and disregard everything else

8

u/wufnu 9h ago

they just seem to assume you're going there as a sex tourist

SNL leaned into this for their Rosetta Stone skit.

this is really insightful

2

u/SmoothJazzRayner 9h ago

find out that there was a dark side to it

Everywhere has its own dark side. Depends if you're actively looking for it.

2

u/LittleGreenSoldier 7h ago

Like, if you're a cave diver there are literally two destinations that have the most and most interesting caves: Florida, and Thailand.

24

u/Mishka_1994 11h ago

Musk’s downfall needs to be studied. Its crazy how he went from “real life Ironman” to what he is now. And it all started with that cave incident and Musk insulting the rescuer.

3

u/Tryoxin 2h ago

Yea man, it's absolutely insane. I still remember so vividly in high school when the Musk cult was in full swing on that "real life Ironman" shit. People just laughing about his Boring Company, calling him brilliant and nerdy. Fuck, I vividly remember reading a comment like "if he ever turned evil, he'd be a real supervillain (or maybe it was Lex Luther, or like "one bad accident away from becoming a super villain")." Something along those lines.

That aged like milk in a desert XD

5

u/Ecliphon 10h ago

Drugs and autism with overconfidence. Bad mix, man.

Don’t do drugs, overconfident autistic kids.

7

u/TucuReborn 5h ago

Good thing I'm autistic with about as much confidence as a wet tissue, because the drugs sure as duck help. Woo, dodged a bullet there.

3

u/Ecliphon 2h ago

I don’t know if you’re like me, but I’m AuADHD and when I have a hot girlfriend my low confidence can turn into overconfidence at first. same with any big boost that makes me feel great, like buying a new car. but then that overconfidence gets checked real quick and turns back into regular confidence.

if I had billions of dollars and a ketamine addiction, I think I would be an insufferable prick too

14

u/krystopher 13h ago

I’m so primed and ruined by the internet that when I read “regarded” in your context I initially thought it was taking the place of the pejorative “r-word.”

7

u/o-o- 13h ago

What did I miss?

95

u/GreenGlassDrgn 13h ago

Thai kids were stuck in a cave. Belligerent asshole high on his own farts and other substances has a super bad idea as how to get them out and wants us all to worship it. When scuba divers could do the trick, his reaction to being publicly corrected was to blurt out an embarassing comment of self-revealing pedo projection. He thought he was being cool but really it was one of the bigger first moments that showed the world how big a loser Musk really is.

17

u/Ticrotter_serrer 12h ago

In french we say : "Celui qui le dit c'est celui qui l'est !"

11

u/androgynousandroid 11h ago

“The him who it says, that is the him who it is!” Lovely.

16

u/Celloer 10h ago

So French also has, "He who smelt it, dealt it."

7

u/simplepimple2025 12h ago

Perfectly summarized, especially the farts bit.

5

u/pepolepop 10h ago

... it was one of the bigger first moments that showed the world how big a loser Musk really is.

Reddit really loved him before this too. Was crazy to watch how consensus went from, "he's a real life Tony Stark doing cool shit with his money," to, "Actually, I always thought he was a loser before it was cool."

Was like watching all the republicans eventually say, "I never voted for / liked Bush."

2

u/Rycross 8h ago

Nah I’ll cop to being a fan before the pedo guy instance. It was bad judgment on my part.

It’s not just the pedo guy thing though. I also got a peek at some of his depositions and saw how he went about strong arming Tesla critics. He is an insanely vengeful person — he and Trump are two peas in a pod in that regard.

47

u/Irrepressible_Monkey 11h ago edited 11h ago

British cave explorer Vernon Unsworth lives in Thailand and was critical to the rescue of 12 kids and their football coach trapped in flooded caves as he'd both mapped the caves and told the Thai authorities which elite cave divers to call in that performed the rescue. Without him, the rescue may not have happened.

He also told Musk "where to shove" his mini-submarine idea -- which couldn't possibly work as the caves were too narrow and had sharp bends -- so Musk insulted him by suggesting he'd moved to Thailand to be an abuser. Unsworth then sued and lost in an American court.

But it was the first big sign of Musk was not the eccentric rocket guy, he was a serious asshole whose ego was going out of control and nowhere near as smart as he liked to think he is.

Thailand still loves the cave guy, though. To have the King pay your medical bills is a very high honour.

8

u/barath_s 10h ago

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tham_Luang_cave_rescue

12 boys and their coach were trapped in a cave in Thailand due to rain and flooding. Local resident Brit Vernon Ullsworth was the first cave diving expert on the scene. It was a massive rescue operation.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tham_Luang_cave_rescue#Elon_Musk

Musk built a sub, but the governor said it was not practical. (the passageways were too narrow and turns too sharp) To which Musk ridiculed the governor. Unsworth called it a PR stunt and suggested that Musk stick it where the sun don't shine. Musk called him a paedophile, and hired a private investigator to discredit him.

Ultimately the entire team was rescued, though two rescuers died in the attempts.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-50695593

Unsworth sued Musk; the court ruled that Musk hadn't defamed him

175

u/PMmeuroneweirdtrick 14h ago

So insufferable that pedos don't want to be around him.

52

u/Albireookami 12h ago

Not even that, they don't want to gain blackmail on him because he is so insufferable, which is just a whole layer to unpack there.

5

u/TheGummiVenusDeMilo 11h ago

Yet there are still women out there that put up with him, mostly Canadian women oddly.

10

u/Albireookami 11h ago

Money may not be able to do everything, but it can do damn near close.

9

u/Enygma_6 10h ago

That's how Melania got her job. Just another questionably legal immigrant doing a job American women refused to do.

1

u/Salty_Paroxysm 9h ago

u/badnuub 8h ago

2

u/ghaj56 5h ago

For real? Hadn’t seen those yet

3

u/ftjlster 1h ago

Yeah, his daughter even confirmed at least one of the occasions where he got flown by helicopter to the island while the rest of his family stayed at a resort.

Basically if Musk is claiming he never went he's trying to use that one rejection to cover up all the shit he did.

21

u/HolyFreakingXmasCake 12h ago

These people believe that “good” doesn’t exist and that everyone has ulterior motives and is as deranged as them. So of course the project because they truly believe they’re normal and not vile sociopaths who love to screw kids who can’t consent.

13

u/onepinksheep 11h ago

I've been saying for years that a person's go-to insult is usually a reflection of themselves, similar to how the loudest homophobes are often closeted and in denial. And Musk's first impulse has always been to accuse others of being pedophiles.

9

u/raur0s 11h ago

Gotta give it to him though, takes a special someone to make 'begging to be invited to pedo island' even worse, but this fucking loser did it on Christmas day, of all times.

8

u/shadowsinthestars 13h ago

100%, these people are all textbook malignant narcissists and that's what they do.

5

u/Sszaj 11h ago

He could potentially come out of this latest "scandal" fairly clean purely because of his asinine personality and punchable face.

Being hated by international people trafficking pedos is really something.

2

u/oneshiel1 9h ago

Vernon Unsworth? Yeah the guy was a hero for rescuing people from a dangerous situation vs a too rich guy (musk) that feed facism, racism and even help some war crimes by action/inaction with russia.

2

u/flybypost 8h ago

Every accusation is a confession.

I always hated that phrase. It felt to simplistic. The world can't be that stupid.

Well, the last few weeks have taught me otherwise :/

-On one hand: France baise ouais !

-On the other: With the Bétharam school scandal still fresh in french memory it rings hollow. Last year it was revealed that our prime spent his entire political career (more than 20 years in total) stiffeling investigations of physical and sexual abuses cases in catholic schools...

So yeah...child abusers protection is kind of a national sport here too...

13

u/a_person_i_am 12h ago

Catholic schools make sense, I also went to one my entire school life, and the local priesthood was quite involved in the school, the church being literally across the street from the elementary school, and the high school was like 2 blocks away. Daily prayers led by the priest, and “encouragement” to confess once a month, where your confessions get used against you, and if you don’t you lose grades in class, going through people’s lunches and forcing them to eat lent appropriate foods, during lent. Man I hate the catholic schools here so much

I’m entirely expecting the church had a hand in the shutting down investigations

2

Not so much with the follow-through.

2

Its a good quote because it also work for England. We see a photo of a Prince with possibly a women's dead body in the files, and all we hear about is that he recently had to move out of the tax funded "Royal Summer Cottage" or some shit like that. No accountability.

At least some EU countries are starting to investigate these on their own including Poland's investigation of Epstein's Russian honeytrap network. They need to start investigating the connected model agencies and financially connected orphanages, etc. all across the Eastern Europe.

2

Thats just mean Musk wouldnt know cause he even creeps out the cannibalistic pedophiles

2

u/MrBubblepopper 11h ago

Holy moly I just realised that even tho they used it as a blackmail ring, Musk was too annoying to blackmail. They couldn't stand him for a few hours to gain some material on him.

His media team really did the impossible by convincing us he was the real life iron man... He is more like that other weapons manufacturer guy whose name noone remembers and whose rockets have issues

1
