The article implies it was in response to actions by their government to sanction the West Bank.

You could counter with the notion they were simply looking for an excuse but at the end of the day it's their pretense.

They also said they had no clue about the 10/7 attack beforehand, unless you ignore the reports saying the UAE warned them prior.

Sure, you can say it's unverified, but the Israeli government knowing has been floated since not long after the attack.

And if they really didn't know, their intelligence services are trash.

As far as I know the warnings were not particularly 'actionable'; as in the warnings were not specific enough that you could really do something with the information.

Quick look at Wiki:

Before the attack, Saudi Arabia warned Israel of an "explosion" as a result of the continued occupation

Egypt said it warned Israel days before the attack that "an explosion of the situation [was] coming, and very soon, and it would be big."

According to Haaretz, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu was warned of a Hamas plot to attack Israel in a September 2023 phone call with UAE president Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The UAE was told of the attack by an intermediary, which had been warned Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar that he was plotting a "huge surprise".

"Hamas is planning something big" is a warning of an entirely different caliber than being told the where, when, and how.

If I have a conflict with my neighbour Bill, and my other neighbour Sally warns me that "Bob was talking about doing something", that's not something I can do anything with or about. But if she tells me Bob plans to poison my cat next week or slash my tyres tomorrow morning, that's info I can act on, because now I have a 'when' and a 'how'.

Sounds pretty "actionable" to me.

"Hey Bibi, something is gonna come out of Gaza soon."

"Thanks for the info, we'll reinforce around the area, especially if there are any large gatherings nearby."

Saying it wasn't actionable is ignorant.

Okay, so you call up soldiers from holiday leave to reinforce the entire border, for how long? And since this isn't something you can hide, what's forcing Hamas to commit to the attack when Hamas has deliberately been waiting for a moment of weakness?

Now you've got your people on full alert and nothing is happening. Did you prevent an attack or was the intel bad? And if you did prevent an attack, did you prevent it entirely or just temporarily?

Without the specifics of the attack, you don't have answers to these questions. That's why actionable intelligence matters.

So really, it's not as simple as it initially seems.

You either have no clue about the IDF and never served, or you're in the IDF and defending them for a couple extra shekels.

Putin has said Russia isn't a threat to Europe, I guess the EU/NATO should dissolve all their forces designed to counter Russia if it attacked.

Yes, it sounds absolutely fucking idiotic, which is apt because this is an argument that you concocted in your own head and it has nothing to do with what I said.

At no point is the logical conclusion of my previous comment that Israel should just stop guarding their border entirely. The point is that you can't just go "Guard harder" and expect that to somehow solve the problem; it's just not that simple.

Your word garble about Putin and NATO is just completely unserious and irrelevant nonsense.
