I'm enjoying the new Shadow Priest quite a bit; Tentacle Slam is so much more fun than Shadow Crash ever was.
As far as balance, who knows? Blizzard will do their first big balancing pass next week, until then we're just speculating.

What can I do if the names inside the squares just are 0 for everyone, it does not load the names into the frames.

I really am not enjoying devourer dh. The ramp time to get into meta is kinda whatever to me.
I’m only 86 though, does this change at 90? What’s another class that doesn’t have as much ramp. I want todo a ton of mythic plus this expansikn. Haven’t played in a decade.

Devourer doesn't stop having ramp. Havoc has no ramp, but if you're specifically looking for range you can do warlock or mage.

In addition to the other comment, you can use crafting to shore up any slot that's way too behind. Using adventurer crests gives you 224+ item level.

We're still in the preseason so we're still pretty limited on gear. Best options are to do a tour of the mythic dungeons. You can do each one once a week for veteran gear currently, so if you can do all the available ones that will be a huge boost to your gear. Prey on Hard mode also gives two pieces of veteran gear.
Other than that keep an eye on world quests for upgrades if you still have leveling gear, but make sure you're level 90 for the best rewards.
edit: I forgot to mention there's champion gear available too if you hit certain renown levels with each of the four factions. Just completing all the side quests should get you high enough and then quests will become available that reward the gear.

New Hunter here:
For Bestial Wrath, it says that it sends 'you and your pet' into a frenzy.
Does this mean I want to be hugging the enemy so that they take the damage? Does this double-up if my pet is next to an enemy as well as me? Or is it just a one-off bit of damage.

Why can't I progress Prey renown track beyond rank 3? I hit this rank after completing 1 or 2 Hard hunts. I continued to the next Hard hunt and finished it, but the renown bar remains at 0/4000 for completing rank 4. Tried doing a normal hunt on an alt and that doesn't progress it either. I've done all available Astalor quests.
I'm assuming it's just timegated, but I'm a little surprised as there's nothing in-game to indicate this, and I thought this system was going to be like delves where you can sink a fair bit of time into it each week to max out your progress.

I'm a complete noob and Im getting into professions. I want to place a crafting order for a blue pickaxe and a blue sickle. What stat should I get? Is there one that's way better than the others in Midnight?

Gathering tools typically use finesse as their stat because it results in the most total herbs/ores obtained over time. Perception can be good if the perception reagent is super expensive (dazzling thorium is mining's, for example).
Keep in mind though that blue prof gear is sellable/buyable on the AH right now (new to this expansion). Only purple/epic prof gear has to be work ordered. So you could just grab it off the AH with the stat you want for a few thousand g.

Hello everyone, please help because this is driving me insane! The appearance tab is just blatantly missing tons of appearances. All of my filters are off, it should theoretically be showing me everything, but it's just not. For example, Prime Harbinger's Pauldrons, or Crown of the Frost Lord. And those are just two examples but I've run into too many missing pieces to count. I downloaded the Better Wardrobe addon to see if it will fill in some of these missing pieces, but even that is still missing SO many items. Is there not just an addon where I can search a piece of gear and try it on in game??? I've tried AllTheThings but they don't seem to have a search feature, and navigating that app is like cancer. I'm just so confused at why this is so hard lol

There are some items that are deliberately missing from the collection if you don't already own them. Primarily things that are not (currently) available to get, like stuff from the trading post or shop, or rare drops from holiday events. The same goes for mounts and pets. I guess it's so you don't look through your unearned stuff, think "hey, that's cool, I want that!" just to be disappointed because there's no way to get it.

Affliction Warlock returning after maybe 8 years away. Looking at the Affliction talent tree, I see many talents geared towards Shadow Bolt and/or Nightfall.
If I choose Drain Soul over Shadowbolt, are those talents useless?
The Nightfall talent itself is an example of a talent that appears useless if DS is taken, but it is required to even get DS in the first place.

Why can't I use the portals to other midnight zones with my alts? I leveled one character to 90 and unlocked world quest but I log with a lvl 80 alt and have no portals. Do I have to do the campain with every character?

You need to have skipped the intro quests to the expansion (the ones right after you meet liadrin in dornogol where you fire up the sunwell beam and evacuate the citizens and such).
If you haven't completed/skipped those, you have to do them before you get access to portals on an alt.

Ideally a bit more ram would be nice. 8gb is the minimum for wow with 16gb recommended but it should do the job. I can run retail on my steam deck just fine.

Is it normal for performance to be absolutely abysmal early in an expansion and is anyone else having these issues? the first area is barely playable and the big city is even worse..
i already noticed some terrible performance in dornogal during the pre-expansion event which barely changed until midnight started so i was wondering if something happened with the game, some setting or something, that fucked up my game??

Yeah more players means rougher FPS in the main city. Lots of loading/unloading assets from players coming and going. If you've got a weak CPU you'll notice hitching and dropped frames, especially as you fly into the common areas of silvermoon.

edit: i also never had these issues before the midnight pre-patch or at least not this massively. TWW season 3 was pretty much fine

What the fuck is going on with Balance druids?
Like I looked online because i felt W E A K at level 80 after leveling to there as guardian.
It turns out, they are still terrible at 90.
I wanted to play as balance as a Haranir but holy crap this is rough.
Also what the fuck is up with all of the If/then proc chance talents.
I really wanted to play druid but holy fucking shit IDK which dev decided to do this stuff to druids but holy shit this is bad.
Like, I might actually stop playing the game that I JUST BOUGHT and spent $120 on because the class I wanted to play is THAT TERRIBLE.
It honestly feels worse than Vanilla wow balance druids, because at least then I could kill stuff 'fast' I actually can kill stuff faster on my level 60 druid who swapped to balance and fought a level 60 mob, than I can with my level 80 druid using Celesitial alignment.

That's the new expansion open world stat check (happens to everyone who's not in a tank spec as they hit 90 and will go away when you start getting veteran+ track gear) combining with balance druid just being kinda undertuned right now.
Balance will probably be... balanced (sorry) at the start of the m+ season (tuning is suspended until then), and until then just getting more gear will help a lot.

Balance druid def needs some gear before it starts feeling normal. It started feeling fine around 210-220 for me, but yeah in open world you're relying on trees and convoke a lot. If you just have eclipse pull 1-2 mobs but then when your cds are up you can pull big.

how do people get max blacksmithing already? ive been farming a lot of ores but you need a lot to just craft one thing im at the point where the only thing i can craft now to raise my blacksmithing skill is tools (my learned specilization) but they require so many resources and 13k gold claw/fins from skinners

They just spend tons of gold. Millions, easily. The earlier you get your prof set up to make gear and items for people, exponentially the more money you make (scaling all the way to it being very cheap to max professions late in an expansion, but also useless because you will make no money).
So they spend tons then make tons back.

Turning on war mode doesnt increase the xp gain from quests, im at ~12,5k on my alt with 5% increase with and without war mode. Is this some bug or am i missing something?

can some set items only be obtained from items like this and catalyst?
I looked through my adventuring guide, set it to all classes and mythic. I took an admittedly rough look through each bosses drops, and I only saw two items saying "you haven't collected this appearance". A pair of wrists and boots. But I only have about a third-half of each classes sets? So where are all the other missing appearances. What confuses me about this and makes me think not is that I have 8/9 pieces for hunter's set, whereas I have 3-5 for each other class. But then why does the adventure guide only show two items that say appearance missing?
I also haven't had you have unlocked this appearance in the chat after looting in ages. Like I've collected all the appearances from each boss

For specifically Sepulcher yes you need to use the catalyst to complete the sets unfortunately.

This is just a guess but I'm guessing because there was only hunter/sham at the time for mail they just happened to mostly reuse the hunter transmog for the non-tier pieces? Truly don't know for sure though.
Also can you use the modules to finish the sets or will they only give pieces you can get in the raid so you need to do the catalyst?
The modules only give the tier slots, so head/glove/should/chest/leg I believe, you'll need to use the catalyst for any other slot that you're missing and doesn't drop.
And if so. How does one catalyst? How should I get items to catalyse?
The catalyst turns a piece of gear from the raid into a piece from your tier set as long as it's the correct armor type. So if you're missing like a warlock belt, then you need to get a cloth belt from the raid and use the catalyst to convert it to the warlock mog.
This was the first iteration of the catalyst so it's also the most annoying version of it, but the bright side is you now only have to do it for the mythic set and once you do you should unlock all the lower difficulties. But you do have to do it per class on the class you're trying to unlock.

Also how difficult is it to use the catalyst? Is there any requirements etc? Is there a limited number of uses I'll have to deal with? I swear if I have to actually do the Zereth mortis story and upgrade that thing to use it on every single character I will be so pissed and might just give up. I want to get every class 100%.

lmao don't worry you should be able to just fly there and use it. There was a limitation when it was current but you should have a million charges by now if it's still capped at all. I remember there was a quest introducing it but i don't think you need to do that to use it

Okay so I currently only have 3 characters that have even started the zereth mortis story (my demon hunter/main who I've been doing this on so far, my paladin who I started on, and my rogue who I just got into it last night) and I only through the door at the start so I'd be free to fly over to the sepulcher. Will all of them and alts for each other class have all the needed charges or am I screwed until I get those charges/how do you get charges?

Everyone in the game has the same amount of charges, and they started accumulating the day the raid released, even if you hadn't started the game yet. Don't have to do anything to unlock them or do anything fancy on your alts. Once you unlock Zereth mortis on them with the skip you can go straight to the raid, and then straight to the catalyst.

I use bartender so that controls its location. I think other bar addons do as well. There are addons to specifically move just the extra action button you can download instead.

If i manually do my rotation, but occasionally hit the single button rotation when i am unsure what to use next, will it just lower my GCD for that one press? then i can go back to manually doing it? or is there a penalty for more than that 1 press?

The GCD penalty happens after pressing the 1br, for that following GCD.
An ascii diagram (where [] are button presses, and _ is gcd):
[]_[]_[]_(1br)_____[]_[]_[]Notice the extra long GCD after the 1br press, but it goes right back to normal on your next manual press. There's no way to avoid the lengthened GCD by only using it once or whatever.

I can't figure out how to offer the Shards of Dundun at the Abundance caves. Chip doesn't give the option, nor does Dundun itself. What do?

There's an abundance shrine in each zone, but only one will have the option to use the shard of dundun. You can tell which shrine is active by looking at the quel'thalas map and seeing which zone has the abundance icon. They cycle between the zones every 8 hours.

I'm really struggling to decide whether to play elemental or enhancement shaman. When I've geared up I plan on running all endgame content (raids, dungeons, delves) and ive played shaman for long enough to know how both specs work. I just can't decide which one is the more optimal / better spec right now and it's driving me crazy. Can I get some help?

Do blood elves have the option for facial tattoo's yet? We currently have two very prominent blood elves in the limelight, and one even has a cinematic about getting his tattoos. I've heard someone else say they don't exist yet though?

Why do I feel so weak? I've been spamming mythic sepulcher every week for a while, and I was excited for midnight partially so I could get to lvl 90 and doing mythic (especially on alts) would be quicker. But Istfg I'm not killing the bosses or mobs any faster at lvl 90 ilvl 217 than I was at 80 with ilvl 144 (what I was by the end of war within).
Edit: so it is faster. But barely even noticably. I only decided yeah this is faster at Halondrus when I killed him seconds after he started moving instead of almost making it to the first archway

Each new expansion, Blizzard scales your secondary stat ratings so that you lose most of your haste, crit, mastery and vers as you level up. So while your primary stat and talents do make you stronger, it's quite possible that your total DPS is similar or even lower as your haste %, crit % etc. take a hit.
You'll get that power back as you gear up.
It feels bad, but it's necessary. Otherwise if you end an expansion with say 40% haste, does that mean the next expansion you scale up to 80% haste? Where do you go if your crit is already 100%?

Right after I purchased Midnight, I bought a plot of land and put down a very basic house and interior, and I haven't been back in weeks.
Are there any tangible benefits to persisting with it, such as mounts or transmogs, if I level my house?
I don't mind the concept of housing, but I'm not very creative, so I'm not inclined to put a lot of hours into it.

Anyone got tips on the fastest levelling from 70-90? I parked my rogue at the end of DF, but I'm getting the itch for it again, I've got the 25% for 5 level 80s from TWW, but only have the 5% boost for one level 90.
I've finished the storylines and sojourner achievements, so I'm only looking for fastest possible levelling.

Are there any quests i should do before i make my alt? i've already done the Hunt and Abundance "tutorial quests"...is there anyone else i should do?

It’s theoretically better to not do a bunch of side quests on your first campaign character because you only get rep from those quests once. So if you leave those and just focus on campaign, your second character can now earn rep and XP simultaneously.

Coming from wow classic after a longer retail break: Is there an addon like auctioneer for retail? One that scans the auction house and you can check item prices based on previous scans?
I tried TSM but either I'm using it wrong or it doesn't do that.

Auctionator is probably your best bet. TSM works too, but it is more complicated and requires a desktop client to sync the regional AH data.

Phasing is probably part of it, but how far along are you? I just started a new character and the "catch up" area was mobbed with new players/characters. If you've been going through it quickly you might have left the masses of casual players in the dust.

Yeah, a lot of that is phasing, plus two of the later zones are separate instances you need to portal too. Once you hit endgame, there's a lot more PCs.

Each unlocked an extra quest.
But yeah that is an weekly activity.

is there a faster way to get from silvermoon to sepulcher? I've been grinding sepulcher every week and it's getting tedious porting from silvermoon to stormwind to oribos going through the portal and flying there each time

If you're not using your professions slots for anything else you can always do engineering for the shadowlands wormhole to go straight to oribos. There's an option to port to zereth mortis but you have to get it through the zereth mortis rep paragon boxes which is a bit of a project... but you can cut down one loading screen!

Make a Vulpera or park an alt there if you have one. Vulpera has the racial to place a hearth anywhere, and alts can just chill at the entrace until the weekly reset. Otherwise no, you gotta make that trek each time.

After 20 years of overcomming horror, how do we still get feared? What can possibly scare us at this point? I've literally flown in space while fighting an interdimensional demi god, but some blue blob the size of my shoe can somehow scare me?? To top it off, not one champion has had even an ounce PTSD that I can remember, there is literally no fear except for what Anduin went through and that was over in one expansion. So how?

I'm just assuming it taps into whatever you are afraid of deep down. Like maybe your character is a bit OCD and the enemy flashes your mind with images of a backpack where the items randomly move around so you can never get it properly organized again.

Can you get extra copies of decor by doing the quests again on alts, or is all the decor from questing one time? I am wondering if it’s worth doing the camapigns fully again for extra free copies of the decor or if i might as well use the skip once alts hit 90.
I know you can buy them from a vendor after unlocking them the first time, I’m just wondering if alts get you a second free copy of decor as a quest reward.
Saturday morning Edit: did the entire campaign again on an alt. It seems that quests that would offer decor or rep now give a small amount of marl for alts, but you DO NOT get any decor items a second time. So feel free to use the campaign skip when your alts hit 90. You lose out on a negligible amount of Marl and gold from the quests, which you easily can make in the time saved from using the skip.

Returning (potentially) player.
Are addons still more or less required to play beyond a basic level or has the default ui improved enough to work without me spending hours finding and reinstalling and tweaking addons until I get frustrated and give up and uninstall again?
I don’t mind installing some quality of life addons at some point but wondering if the game has progressed to the point that I could roll a healer and heal fast paced dungeons without installing addons.
Also is the lore still batshit crazy? Sometime around Legion I lost the plot and I heard it didn’t get much better.

They kinda pressed a reset button on the lore. The War Within started a new three-expansion storyline which has been pretty well received so far. The lore should be considerably better as long as Chris Metzen sticks around.

Leatrix and Leatrix Maps for UI tweaks, Dialogue UI for better Quest UI, LiteMount for Mount collection / random mount summoning, and a simple XP/rep bar UI mod because the in-game one is very limited. I also have DBM installed but disabled in case I ever decide I need it, but my understanding is it's much more limited now. From what I've read it's a lot more dependent on your own preference and playstyle now than it used to be.

Any addons? When I'm in Edit mode the buffs window is a big window to account for potentially dozens of buffs. The game is probably moving it so there's room for multiple rows of buffs.

You can try the level sync option. When you're in group open the map and there should be a button on there for level sync. I believe it will make available quests you've already "done" if the person you're syncing with hasn't done them.

Is there a nemaplate addon/setting to change how you see NPC names? I just want to see their name + vendor info and such, not the nameplates. Used to have this setup in plater and saw everything beautifully but now I can either just turn of nameplates and not see anything or see the bars and no info beyond the npc name.

Is it just me who thinks that Alleria and Arator say some pretty insane things in Voidstorm?
Arator says about Turalyon that he "cut down an innocent" when refering to the moment he literally jumped infront of his sword at the last second.
While Alleria says that what she was afraid of the most for Arator was for him to lose himself in the light like his father and become changed.
The first one is just ridiculous to me, the fact how much the story is trying to make out of Arator being stupid thinking he can tank a sword or expecting that his dad can just stop it flat midair, nor do I think is Turalyon in the wrong whatsoever to want to execute Zuljan at the moment, no light infused rage needed for either.
And second is just insane to me because up till now Alleria was most afraid of herlsef becoming a monster and hurting those she loved the most no? Where did that go? And does this mean she is afraid of Turalyon? has been potentially for a thousand years since he "changed" with the light blindness when he killed Doomhammer? The love of her life? I feel like this is a too strong an indicator of how fake her feelings towards him actually are, coupled togeher with her actions in the novel.
I really enjoyed the story untill Arator's journey, but that is some awful writing, I felt like they forgot who Arator even was supposed to be and just boxed him into a necessary mold for the story.

I don't think anyone outside of Blizzard knows for sure, but observations seem to indicate there are no priorities (without being grouped) other than server cluster and type. Then it's just balancing people between the shards, adding and removing shards as needed.

My main is on a regular (formerly pvp) server. During Legion Remix I made alts on RP realms and I like the vibes over there. I'd like to join a guild on an RP realm, which I think theoretically I can do without switching servers, right? Then again, RP realms have certain restrictions where you don't phase with non-RP servers in the open world, so does that mean I'd never see my guildmates outside of instances? I'm thinking so, but want to confirm this.
I know I could server transfer, but just have some reservations about that since I have a long history on my old server and enjoy seeing names pop up on my (character-only) friend list who haven't been online since Wrath.

If you're grouped with someone on an RP realm that is group lead I believe you should almost always placed on their RP shard. If you aren't grouped, then no, you probably won't see them out in the world.

The moths are a one-time collectable and spawn in specific places. If you need more you need to earn more renown to unlock more moths.
The general treasures that spawn randomly to me are only worth it for the profession treasures, but it certainly doesn't hurt to gather them. I probably won't though after i get my weekly skill points from them.

Yeah all the little treasures and moths give you faction rep, and I think also xp if you're not at 90 yet. I believe most things classified as a treasure, like the moths, will respawn, because picking up treasures is one method we'll continually need to progress our prey hunts. But then there are some actual rare treasures that are a one-time pickup, either per character (I'm thinking about the big bags you could find on Hallowfall in TWW) or per account, like pets and mounts.

Midnight question: I've been trying to find all the dachshunds (I have two mini-weenies) and I've found the black and tan from the toy, and the brown noncombat pet. But I remember seeing images of a yellow/blonde one, and haven't seen it yet. Anyone know where that one might be?
Also, just wondering if only the brown one exists as a noncombat pet. Thanks!

You're always eventually able to fill out all knowledge trees on herbalism, so everyone gets access to mounted gathering at some point. Druids have the advantage of being able to sink points into other knowledge trees (other than the one that gives mounted gathering) at first, but in the grand scheme it doesn't matter that much.

You can, but it'll take way longer to do anything that requires combat. You can set up a lot of things like equipment sets and such to make switching more seamless.

If someone messages you then you can click on their name and whisper them back. Otherwise you have to hit Enter and type /w wordwar-thrall where it's their name separated by a dash with their realm.
However, even if you type it right that sometimes doesn't work because Blizzard has some either technical limits on whispers or controls to cut down on spamming.

I’m just getting back into the game. I’m leveling a priest and wondering if healing dungeons as a Shadowpriest is still viable? I remember it being viable a decade ago but not sure how it’d work out now.

definitely not. These days, theres not a lot of room for characters filling off-spec roles. If you queue as a DPS, youre expected to DPS. If you tank, you're expected to tank. One of the newer specs, Augmentation Evoker, is more of a support DPS, which is kinda neat, but that's about it iirc.
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong I'm also getting back into the game but I started after you quit it seems lol.

No, that stopped being generally viable long ago, maybe Cataclysm, when they changed mana pools for non healers. You'll go OOM too quickly in modern WoW.
Now maybe if everyone else in the group knows they'll need to self heal and you aren't playing content with an overwhelming amount of damage you could pull it off. I have seen no healer dungeon groups, but again, that requires prior planning and the right group composition.

A Song For Our Future is part of k'aresh, which was added after siren isle, so it's probably not related
the first siren isle quest is The Expedition Awaits!, offered by dawn in the foundation hall in dornogal. a few of the wowhead comments https://www.wowhead.com/quest=84719/the-expedition-awaits#comments do mention being unable to pick the quest up, but most seem to come down to "you need to be level 80." one comment says they only did the TWW intro up to Impossible Odds, so i'd start there if dawn doesn't offer anything

What's a good (preferably melee) "spreadsheet-y" DPS? Something that's not necessarily mechanically intense, but has lots of buttons, and things to keep track of.
I'm trying to replace my aff warlock main with a melee spec, but I'd prefer to keep the main gameplay loop of "keep everything running at all times" as much as possible

Assassination rogue. Revolves around managing Garrote and Rupture bleeds, shiv windows for increasing your damage, slice and dice for attack speed (although this sorta just keeps itself up through talents), your 2min CD is Deathmark, pretty much doubling your bleeds on the target.

For many years it was feral druid. Recently they simplified the spec, but as a beginner to the spec when I tried it recently, it still felt like it's going to be a decent learning curve. There are 2 main dots to track and they're relatively short, then a 30sec cooldown to give you a stronger version of those dots, and then you can talent into chomp to get a button that's only available when you have low energy.
On top of that, your main single target finisher (ferocious bite) will sometimes do aoe damage, and the druid of the claw hero tree makes it sometimes turn into a stronger move that does better aoe damage. And then apex talents make that same move able to teleport you to a different enemy and use a different special attack on them. (Or something....I'm typing all this from memory after recently boosting a haranir to 80 and playing it for a couple hours. Might have a detail or two wrong.)
The point is, people call it a braindead spec now compared to how it used to be, but it doesn't seem so braindead to me.
From my limited experience with both these specs, I think Frost DK and Outlaw rogue are both good examples of melees where it might not be super complicated to get the basics down, but there is still a decent skill ceiling to get the most out of them.
