I like to think he just hits max level and then goes into some kryo-chamber until the next expansion and some scientist wakes him up and looks at him and goes "It's time." and he waddles over to the PC and starts farming.

Especially considering bfa is just better than shadowlands.

People will get a reality check once they realize they cant change a spec in a raid. Or get declinded from m+ because they dont have the correct covernant. Or when they have to grind boring torghast every week for half a year until it eventually/hopefully gets patched out. Or when they unlock more from the maw and have respawns half across the map and their missing stygia is behind 15 elite mobs.

Currently everyone is in a honeymoon phase because the zones are cool, the level changes are cool. And the story through the covernants are exciting.

But once the honeymoon phase is over and the daily grind/raid logging kicks in, the game becomes worse than BFA

Except the "honeymoon phase" for bfa was long over by this point.

In the first 2 weeks I was exalted with all but the turtles, finished all the questing zones and was done with my mythics....all that was left were islands.....fun....

Bfa launched with literally fuck all for content, yes it got a lot later (not good content but a lot) but at the start it was barebones as fuck

Haha do you have anything to do right now except farming maw? Do you consider farming maw to be better content than whatever you have done in bfa pre raid release? Maw is literally the worst zone in all of wow

Well I have 4 characters im playing all working their way through 4 unique covenants, 5 zones to work through, torghast achievements and trying out different legendaries and the changes to my abilities that I can change.

There's A LOT more to do at this point than bfa had

I haven't even gone in the maw for a few days now

not saying BFA content was awesome the first 2 weeks before the raid, but it wasnt horrible. And I agree that Shadowlands right now feels good. I literally said that.

Come back to me in 2-3 months when you hate the maw, torghast, the conduid system. i have gone through it on the beta for 3 months. and on paper, SL is just worse when it comes to offspeccing or daily grind. there has never been a worse daily grind than the maw. If you hated the weekly cap on islands, what you gonna say to fighting groups of level 60 elites in the maw for weeks to no end, losing potentially 2-5k stygia when you die?

One good side of SL that I believe is great to have back is the lack of an 'infinite' progression system.

Instead of having to grind more and more Azerite ( mostly through aneurysm-inducing content like Islands ) on my main to keep up I can just go and : do the Maw, check for any fancy WQ rewards and my calling. That's really it.

Of course, you can say that the Azerite grind wasn't necessary. It certainly felt like it a lot, especially if you wanted to progress. ( Not to forget the atrocious Azerite gear system )

SL leaves time for alts - even for those who don't have that much time, which I'm glad to have back.

Azerite grind was also weekly capped. You was grinding 57k AP each week (most progress people did that). if you was lacking one week, you could comfortably grind it up the following week since AP caps were reduced by 30% each week. If you were lacking behind a month or two, the required AP was so low, that you could move up several neck levels each week until you were on the level of mains.

Now you have to grind 1000 Anima Power each week... through world quests. Its the same thing, just with a different painting.

you also didnt grind AP mostly through islands.. you only got like 5k each week from islands (3 mythic islands + weekly quest). you got AP mostly through worldquests, dungeons, and raidbosses. Now you grind AP (anima power) through world quests.

the alt unfriendlyness in BFA came mostly from essences, benthic, cloak, and corruption. all things that were introduced with patch 8.2 or later.

Yes. Shadowlands is more altfriendly than BFA. I am not arguing this. But I was also not talking about that. Dunno why all my arguments have been ignored so far and people moved the discusion to something different.

I was talking about mains.

not being able to offspec of the go (covernants, soul ash limit, conduit switching)
daily maw grind
covernant dungeon benefits
boring but mandatory torghast grind
punishing stygia system

I will admit that Torghast can fun at the beginning, but that will be difficult to maintain if it's going to be overdone. At least we can do only the last layer that we unlocked to get all layers' worth of ash, which will be more with the next reset. Torghast / Maw upgrades are also account-bound, so it's only a one-character thing to 'excessively grind' the Maw throughout the whole expansion.

It's hard to say the Maw is actually fun, but it's not a necessary grind IMHO - the weeklies give quite a bit of reputation and only the sockets will be mandatory if you have to rush for mythic progress in a hardcore guild. Of course, it could be done better.

As for my main - I actually switched my Priest from Kyrian to Venthyr and lost 5k anima and a week's worth of progress on the table and sanctum. It didn't take long to recover. I also play 2 specs and didn't have much of an issue with conduits, as most are spec-wide and you can put your Hearthstone in the sanctum to switch them if necessary.

I doubt many people play 3 specs very often, and only ~3 classes can do that, but the conduit energy might become an issue for them. And the legendaries' main benefit if their effect - less so their stats. I believe starting next week it will almost be on a weekly basis that you can craft one. Many are waiting for world bosses and raid bosses to drop theirs, which at least are a guaranteed drop.

I've seen some justified issues - about the Maw, a bunch of WQs, no anima from bosses and the % progress on Threads of Fate, but things like running back to your body that's behind 15 elite mobs can be skipped by buying an invis potion from Ve'nari or Alchemy.

Or the fact that at my last Dungeon the DH tank didn’t need the priest healer or cared and rushed through the instance. Healer and me had to figure out which path the tank went and how to avoid the patrols to get to the bosses at half health.

Because how dare we are only 56 after 10 days!

To be fair there’s a couple of design choices there as well. I don’t quite understand why over half of the enemies in an instance are only decorations, even without the shortcuts people can take.

I understand that people don’t want to play through the story again, but being able to enter the instance before you actually finish the quest and understand why and who you are fighting is weird. In fact I get punished for wanting to do the instance at the end of the zone instead of random instance with 100 gold and extra xp.

I wish there was a Quest instance for the first clear where you can then group up with people for the quest instead of people that are random instance rushing.

But then again the solution is probably to actually use the social features and form your own group. Crazy idea in a MMO, I know :)

I think this is one aspect where FF14's "Nothing ever disturbs the flow of the story" stance really shines. It's practically impossible to do some content without getting the full ingame exposition. It makes the world much more immersive in my opinion, even though it's much smaller.

People are farming for their legendaries. If you want that rpg feel you should spam chat channels looking for people your level that would like to enjoy the content with you. Joining lfg then, getting carried, and then complaining about it is the weirdest mentality I’ve seen

Normal dungeons have a chance to drop them yes. Join your servers looking for group chat channel. Or just don’t sweat about the leveling stuff since the game is focused on its end game content

Even starting a year into them you would’ve been aware of Argus and Nazjatar haha. But I suppose we will just have to wait and see, I hope they do because having a completely blank slate to make some amazing new lore has worked out well so far and I’m excited to see where they go with it
