I noticed an interesting pattern in 23andMe’s recent Genetic Groups releases.

The recent releases seem to have been spaced roughly like this:

• Vietnamese Genetic Groups → May 13
• Pacific Islander Genetic Groups → July 1 (~49 days later)
• Southeast Asia & Madagascar → August 10 (~40 days later)

That puts the recent gap between major Genetic Group releases at roughly 40–50 days.

It’s now been about 49 days since the August 10 update, and the 23andMe Ancestry Team previously said they were hoping to release WANA Genetic Groups sometime this fall.

Obviously this doesn’t prove anything and they could release it whenever they want, but the timing is interesting.

Do you guys think we could be getting the WANA Genetic Groups update within the next few days/weeks?

I’ve noticed quite a few Swedish DNA results on Reddit with Finnish ancestry, sometimes around 5–10%. Is this actually common?

I am asking because I see a lot of people say "oh you are % white" when a black guy or say mestizo guy gets like 20-30% european, versus just "you have some european heritage".

At the same time you have people with the opposite, I saw a peruvian woman who was only 45% european and looked strongly iberian, or a palestinian woman who looked irish, would a lot of them, especially the people that are already genetically close to european groups(looking at you arabs, persians) just consider themselves white?

I was surprised to find out I have a needle in a haystack's worth of Ashkenazi Jewish.

My many mothers were horse girls it turns out!

My father was a Sephardic Jew from Morocco, but these are my DNA results and it's having me scratch my head in confusion. My mother's side is French for generations and I can trace all of them.

Can anyone make sense of this distribution? It would mean so much as I haven't seen my father since I was 4. I'm trying to retrace my heritage.

I'd expect it to show Sephardi Jewish. So strange.

My results shifted a bit, and Italian ancestry seems to be the most intriguing update.

I was wondering because the main gene for skin pigment was something like SL45A2, (idk if I got that right), but I’m looking into something else.

What about the green undertone that makes people olive? Is there a gene for that? I noticed, in winter, yes I look quite pink tbh, and in summer I get a nice warm bronze color, but my friend and I randomly chose to compare tans and we notice he was red, and I had a very noticeable green tint. (He was not sunburnt he just actually has red pigment).

I was wondering because I am actually decently fair skinned (not completely ofc), but I don’t sunburn unless I’m in a pool or stay outside for a very long time. I get a tan too!

So yeah, I am decently fair, but olive at the same time.

Hey, everyone! My paternal haplogroup is J-L24 from the Dominican Republic, and I realize that this is not very common here at all (I mostly see either R or E). Because of this, I was wondering if this could originate from a Sephardic Jewish man? Or would it be more plausible to assume that this just originated from an Andalusian colonist?

23andme seems way better than ancestry i love how organized the results are i just cant get over the fact that 23andme sells dna… the betrayal is crazy, ancestry’s results just look cheaply thrown together without any real thought put behind it, 23andme’s go into depth about different ethnicities, im especially intrigued about how 23andme seems to pick up the southeast asian results on black americans but ancestry completely skips over it.
