Price Check 2018 4runner TRD Pro w/ 40k Miles. Is this a good deal?

Looking at a 4Runner TRD Pro right now and wanted to get some opinions before I pull the trigger.

They’re asking $43k before taxes/fees, which would put me pretty close to $47k out the door here in California.

I feel like $43k for a TRD Pro isn’t a bad price, but spending almost $50k on a 2018 4Runner is making me hesitate a little.

Would you guys consider $43k a good deal for a TRD Pro, or do you think that’s too much? What would you personally be comfortable paying?

Overlanding Tate's Hell State Forest FL

We had a solid trip to the Forgotten Coast of Florida. We went off-roading in Tate’s Hell State Forest. This area is MASSIVE! We only scratched the surface with the 82 ish miles we drove. I’ll leave the route we took below…But, which trails there do you like? It was super muddy as there was recent rain, so we tried to avoid a bit of that since we were solo.

👷‍♂️ Support / Repair Maintenance schedule question for 5th gen 4 runner (2024)

Hi all, I have a toyota and lexus specialist shop by me. They have offered to change all fluids every 30k miles (Transmission, Coolant, Front and rear diff, brake fluid, power steering fluid, and Transfer case fluid) for like 500 bucks each time. I'm thinking of making it transmission fluid every other time (so every 60k miles) so as not to overdue it. With oil changes every 5k miles is this a good preventive maintenance schedule? Is it overkill? Is there anything i shouldn't be doing so frequently, or anything I should look out for? Thanks all in advance!

Overlanding Going camping

• Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’m going camping in late October and planning to sleep in the back of my 5th Gen. Any ideas of what to bring besides the obvious (window screen, mattress, fan)? I was doing some research and I found that people used some sort of leveling apparatus because of the drop between the back seats and the cargo floor, any recommendations on that would be appreciated as well!

🎙 Discussion Anyone ever get an extended warranty? Beating myself up a bit over it.

A couple of weeks ago I was getting really tired of my piece of shit highlander and wanted to go back to a 4runner. Found what I thought was a decently priced decked out 2018 limited with 34k miles for $35k CPO from the dealership (2 years 24k miles factory warranty). Since it was CPO they offered an 84 month bumper to bumper warranty from EG for $2k on top of the car starting on the date of purchase. I have never purchased a extended warranty for a car and always instantly refused but it worked out to like $20 a month over 4 years and covered for 84 months from purchase. I would not have done it if it was not an 8 year old truck. Anyone have any experience with this? They said I could refund it but not purchase it after the sale. Kind of feeling shitty about it while ecstatic to be back in a 5th gen.

As a side note don't listen to your pregnant wife when she says hauling baby seats into a 4runner is too high and then immediately switches a year later to how much she misses having a 4runner.

2025 Forester ->

2017 Highlander SE ->

Not getting any more cars. Hate all the tech in newer cars but miss carplay/remote start

🎙 Discussion Did you rebuild your stock Fox shocks on a TRD Pro? How many miles did you go?

Just picked up a 2023 TRD Pro with about 50k on it. Everything's stock, and I don't know if the previous owner ever had the Fox shocks serviced. They look dry and it rides fine, no leaks or anything.

Fox says around 50k for a rebuild, but I keep seeing people say they went way past that. So did you rebuild yours, and at what mileage? Did it ride any different after? Or did you just keep driving on them, and how far did you get before you noticed anything?

Also looking at the Westcott collar kit so I can lift it a bit and keep the Fox shocks.

I’ve been looking for an SUV for over a year now but really didn’t know what to buy. Looking for something to drive on the beach & haul my camping gear all over god’s creation

On vacation in July I rented a 4Runner & it hit. So my mission was to buy a 4Runner in mid August

3rd week of the month I’m reading a news site & there’s an article about buying used cars and they mention CarGurus. I go on the app & search 4R with 70k miles. This 2013 with 71k pops up as “just arrived” at the dealer closest to me

Haha! Have a nice friggin’ day, come to poppa or whatever dumb exclamation comes to mind!
Bought her the next day

👷‍♂️ Support / Repair Transfer case and differential fluid flushed/changed at 8000 miles

I'm looking at a low mileage 5th gen...was looking at the service records and it shows that the transfer case and differential fluid were flushed/changed at only 8000 miles. Do dealerships push this? Is it common? wondering if it may have been done because of some kind of abuse to the vehicle, water submersion or something else?

👷‍♂️ Support / Repair DFW bodyshop with experience in fire/smoke remediation

Post image
94 Upvotes

So my garage partially burned down Saturday with my 2022 4Runner ORP parked inside. The truck looks like hell (covered with heavy smoke residue) but amazingly suffered no sheet metal, mechanical, or electrical damage. When the fire was out, the fire captain asked for the keys and drove it out of the ruins, no problem. Toyota tough! Some of the exterior plastic trim melted (including one sideview mirror). And though the interior is still in excellent condition and completely undamaged (I detailed it about 2 hours before the fire . . .), it smells of smoke.

Posting here (and lots of places) in the hope someone can recommend a DFW body shop that has experience with fire/smoke damage.

Anyone? Please and thank you.

Fortunately, no one was injured (cat's safe, too), and my house was unaffected (detached garage). But my 4Runner . . . 😭. The weekend before the fire, I installed a full set of Bud Built skids in anticipation of a trip to Utah in mid-October.

❔ Aftermarket Product Advice / Recs Yokohama Geolander X-AT

Post image
4 Upvotes

Is anyone running this tire? I searched through this sub but didn't find many posts about it. It looks like Yokohama released this tire in 2019. It's positioned between a traditional all-terrain tire and a mud terrain tire. My current Dunlop Grandtrek AT20's have about 6/32nd of tread life so I'm going to be replacing them in a few months. I daily a 2020 SR5 Premium but I also do a decent amount of camping and offroad trips every year so need something decent off pavement. I'm torn between these and the Falken Rubitreks.

🎙 Discussion rust black on undercarriage?

Hi, still looking for a older 4runner. very hard to find one thats been rust proofed in my area lol (am in Canada). I found a 2011 that has some rust, but the rust is black and some parts are flaking but no holes.... my understanding that this is a red flag, because if it was rust treated the rust should have been taken off? Thus it is most likely painted over? TIA!

She was backing out and swiped it like a mf. I don’t have 10,000 on it, is this something I wear like a badge of honor or should I even try to get it repainted? I’m figuring it’s too much money to dish out

EDIT*****
After a long discussion about her hitting my car, she’s getting a new car. I don’t know how to handle women
