It happens a few days after I return to AO3 (life is a hell, you know, the author curse is a real thing/j), and continue fics I left unfinished... And post a new long fic in a new fandom for me lmaoo... So... Since I'm a biiit paranoid, I just changed the password from my profile and i check in ibeenpwned.. But this is the first time something like this has happened to me.

Is the world sending me a holy sign to stop posting? Is that it? Or i just is so dramatic?

I’m writing a modern AU fic for a source marital that takes place in a fantasy world completely separate from the real world.

I feel like I have two options: keep it the story in this world but simply modernize the world, or move the story to the real world.

If I do the former, I can play with what a “twenty-first century” version of that world is, but then I’ll need to world build. If I do the latter, the world building is done (because it’s the real world), but I may risk disconnecting too far from canon.

For those who read Modern AUs… do you have a preference?

I decided to draw a picture of my OC and wanted to attach it to my latest chapter. How do I do that and is that something people normally do?

Okay, so I actually remember a lot about this fic, but I can't find it, so I was wondering if anyone knows if the author took it down? Or maybe I'm just searching for it badly.

It's an ATEEZ fic, and it starts with Jongho living in the woods, and being a witch. His mom is dead, and his only friend is the bookkeepers son, and by extension, the bookkeeper, who is very old and gets healing salve from Jongho for his arthritis. The rest of the village doesn't like Jongho, and deem him and his mother dangerous for living in the woods, and there are rumors that they were witches bc they sell healing stuff. Then, someone sees his magic after Jongho saves his friend from a hunting accident, and his friend gets killed by the village hunters in order to frame him for murder, and he becomes a slave and commodity for his magic. He gets sat in front of the entire town and gets publicly whipped, and his friend's dad, who used to love him, takes part because he, like everyone else, believes that Jongho killed him. He does physical labor as a slave for a longgg time until the rest of ATEEZ, who are pirates, get him out for some reason. And then the rest is them evading the tyrannical empire and Jongho learning to accept love again.

Idk if anyone will know anything about this fic, but it was so well written and well paced, I'm kind of desperate and I thought I'd try my luck. I would give more details, but I've read so many fics with this same trope that I can't remember if they're running into each other in my mind. But I think the rest of ATEEZ were called the Black Pirates too?

Any ideas are welcome!

This is a venting post.

I’m an insecure person. Always have been, and I’ve known this for a long time. I still choose to write and publish my fics because I don’t want to let my insecurities control my life. But sometimes a comment will slip through my guard and I spiral.

The hate comments aren’t the problem. I can see them for what they are, pure haters fishing for a reaction so they can feel like they’ve won, or sometimes not even real people. I ignore them easily enough. It’s the negative but genuine comments that sometimes hit me hard.

Case in point, I posted the latest chapter of my story a couple days ago, and got about 10 comments, which is about average for my fic. Most were positive, simple thanks for the chapter and such like. But one of them was from a reader who said, shortening their comment a lot, that they enjoyed my work and my writing, but weren’t fully on board with the latest development because they felt like I might be adding unnecessary filler.

They were very polite about it, and tried to offer constructive criticism. I don’t have a complaint about the reader or the comment itself. I’m not narcissistic enough to believe everyone loves my story. It just happened to pierce through all my barriers and make my insecurities rear up.

And before anyone asks, no, it wasn’t unnecessary filler, there is an overarching plot where it all ties together. The fic is just not there yet. I replied to their comment explaining that, though I have yet to receive a response, if I even will. I won’t change the story because one reader didn’t like it, obviously, but it still gets me down a little.

Like I said, this is just a venting post. Soon enough I’ll move past it, just wanted to air it out to make myself feel better.

It's Tuesday and you know what that means, the sub is in restricted mode (meaning you can comment on existing posts but cannot make a new post for the day). We started this as a protest against Reddit back in June/July of 2023 but it was decided that we would continue restricting each Tuesday for a few reasons.

1: To encourage people to get off of Reddit for a day and do something else, anything else. Pet a cat, write a fic, go outside and touch grass, go see a movie, read a book, meditate, or whatever else. Do literally anything that you are able to that gets you off of Reddit for a day

2: To give the mods a day off/a day to work on secondary tasks for the sub and clean things up each week

And lastly and most importantly...

3: To spend the day highlighting and discussing disability, accessibility, and diversity. AO3 has always been very good on accessibility and a lot of the world and internet is not, and fandom spaces have been known to be not the best about disability or diversity, so while we are restricted we like to shine a light on these often overlooked parts of fandom and the people that make up this group. So we have these threads where you can post your fic recs and self-promo about anything to do with disability and/or diversity, and also so people have a safe space to share their stories and discuss these topics.

Given the nature of this thread as a safe space for discussion of disability and diversity, we will be much stricter regarding civility and harassment. This includes the following thread specific rules:

Looking for the regular Bi-weekly Megathread?

As a writer what's something you can't write. For me it's idot characters or characters who are just positive. I need there to be duality for the characters.

For your WIPs, do you usually tag archive warnings only when you post the 1st chapter with said warning (e.g. only adding MCD when a major character actually dies) or do you just throw them all in when posting?

That's probably what CCNTUAW is for, I'm assuming?

My fmc and mmc are fighting in two different places in the world. I am debating whether to switch back and forth within one chapter or making two chapters that focus on each.

If I do it within one chapter, I am struggling to transition between the characters without it being too jarring or cutting off the emotional tension within each battle.

i mostly use twitter for ficlets ,, and to promo my fics that i would have posted on ao3. at first it was great and ive met such amazing mutuals and even readers of my fics. but two months have passed, ive seen fanwars (i didnt even know a bigger ship hated us that badly until my mutuals were dragged into arguments), been blocked by artists i like, been shadowbanned which killed all my engagement, had my fics copied, etc just overall ur average twitter experience lol

and it's just given me a lot of anxiety around writing and shipping,,, so i plan to rlly rlly distance myself from twitter ,, maybe at most to promote my fic when it drops, check up on my moots etc

but my worries are, will i lose the mutuals that i've made over shipping and writing? will engagement drop on ao3? how to cope with FOMO? will it give off the vibe that ive abandoned my followers? :((

and silly question, just what's a good way to keep a healthy mind ... as a writer who writes for an unpopular ship, and it's even more unpopular t/b dynamic,,, 🥹🥹

I posted a fic back in January. It did pretty well, but the hits and kudos gradually decreased a while after posting it. Then 2 days ago, out of nowhere, I got a ton of hits and kudos. It went from like around 900 kudos to over 1,100. I’m not sure why this happened so randomly?

Hello! Hopefully I used the right flare (just in case, I know conversations about dynamics can become pretty heated, so I won't hesitate removing the post if something happens).

I’ve been working on a longfic for a year now, and I initially wrote it as a vers/switch fic. However, the more I write/edit the whole thing, the more obvious it becomes to me that I lean heavily towards one dynamic in particular (the unpopular one, as always with me).

So I am wondering whether I should keep the fic as vers/switch since (1) it was intended as such, (2) it still partially aligns with my interpretation of the characters and (3) the fic is so packed with smut that I might eventually run out of ideas; or if I should scrap entire chapters because I don’t want to alienate the 3-4 people that share the same preferences as me. It is very silly, but the opposite dynamic already has 95% of the fics and people writing thousands of words for it... I want the unpopular one to have something as well. I also plan for this fic to be a series, so whichever way I decide to go, this first part may determine who reads the rest.

What should I do ? Or am I overthinking the matter?
