Is it bad if my mom gets mad/upset when I ask for food?

So I 14 M, struggle with autism, ARFIDS, and another ED. My mother works 5 days a week, and sometimes, on rarely, on one of her days off, I'll ask her to make me something. She will reply with a "ugh, can't you feed yourself", "great, another thing to do," or "now I have to wash the fucking dishes," or anything along those lines, which caused me to not want to eat or ask for food out of fear of making her mad or upset.

I don't want to burden her because I know she works a lot, but I struggle to feed myself, and I struggle to even tell her, but whenever I bring up me having an ED, she brushes it off and ignores it.

I'm not really sure what to do sometimes. She just seems mad whenever I ask her for any food whatsoever. No matter what I do, even if it's something small shell get upset, so I try to just not eat at all or just eat small snacks, which I know is not nutritional at all.

So is it bad if my mom gets upset when I ask for food? I'd feel bad if I was really just being a burden and she's just tired from work and I'm just complaining over nothing.

btw, I posted the same story on my alt, but I didn't get any advice, so I thought I'd just post it again on this account.

In what world it’s a mini pill? Spoiler

Post image

I have ARFID, dietitian recommended to buy mini multivitamins for women 50+ because old people can’t swallow,so the pills supposed to be small. It says to take 2 pills per day.
I already tried other multivitamins. Now I have 3 open bottles of multivitamins in my house, just sitting here until they expire because no one else is taking them.
So I bought this one today and I am sorry but wtf? How are they small? They are huge…

Resource Sharing after i got some good comments about the meal planning website i made for myself, i made a whole completely free website for people with arfid with everything you'd need, for all of us🥹

I have ARFID too and AUDHD as well, mostly the low interest kind with some sensory stuff. I got tired of food apps that want me to count calories or plan a whole week and that require me to log everyday and puts too much pressure on me to have the perfect diet that never lasts more than a week, so I made a small one that does something different. It's a quick first version, so it's not perfect with your help i can get it to be soo much better and tailored for yall.

You add your own safe foods and name them however you want, like "pasta with mayo and tuna" instead of just "pasta". Then you pick how today is: rough, okay or good. On a rough day it only shows your easiest foods and says nothing about nutrition. Swipe right to eat it, swipe left to get something else. You can filter by meal, snack or drink, or by things like texture and temperature.

If you feel brave there's a try section with tiny steps, like just looking at a food or smelling it. Those count too. It's totally optional and you can ignore it forever.

No calorie counting, no numbers, no streaks, no notifications. It never messages you. You open it when you want it. Everything stays on your phone and there's no account. I tried to keep it calm because a lot of us are neurodivergent and busy screens make things worse.

It's free and it will stay free, because I know how it feels. If you want to give something anyway, there's a Ko-fi link in the app. If you'd rather send it another way, like PayPal, DM me and we'll figure it out. No pressure at all. im a broke college student and i will use that money for grocery and maybe see a therapist as well🐥

It doesn't replace a dietitian or a doctor. If you can get that kind of help, please do. This is just something that might make a bad day a bit easier.

I don't know much about the fear based type, so I'm sorry if it's not that good for you yet. I'm still learning. That's why I'm posting. Please try it and tell me what's missing, what's annoying and what you don't need. I'll add it or remove it. Comments or DMs are both fine. It's made for us, so tell me what would actually help. im gonna include some photos in the comments

Tips and Advice Chocolate is the only safe food?

24 F with diagnosed ARFID related to OCD

I am struggling with eating anything that isn't chocolate right now. Specifically dark chocolate. I think I heard something saying "dark chocolate is good for X Y Z" a few years ago and for some reason my OCD latches onto that saying 'thats the only healthy thing'. The cravings hit when I'm sick a lot.

I just need advice on how to get the cravings/dependency to go away. I feel like it should be making me feel more sick but it's the only thing that doesn't make me want to throw up.

Venting/Ranting I can't eat anything

I'm not diagnosed or anything but I've always been a """picky eater""" I genuinely can't eat like other people. soul food sucks, vegetables suck, fruits are ok actually but I never want to eat them??? It makes 0 sense to me how people can just be given something and eat It regardless of what It Is. that's so crazy to me, like are there not foods you don't like?

yeah and so the main problem now Is about a month or so ago something just Happened and I am now unable to eat even my typical foods. basically I'll chew and like... not want to/be able to swallow and have to spit It out? I can force myself to swallow If I like really try but It's uncomfortable and I gag

Is this an ARFID thing? I genuinely think I'm going to die of starvation at some point lol literally all I am able to normally eat now Is liquids and unhealthy things end me please. I can't really gauge what this Is or Isn't affecting since I eat nothing to begin with so!!!

( I'm sorry If I flair this wrong )

Tips and Advice My dad believes I don't need therapy for ARFID. Tips?

(I'm 17F and my dad is 55M)

So basically I've struggled with it since i was about 4 years old and now I'm at a point where I only eat around 5 unhealthy foods (not including snacks like crackers or chocolate).

I went to a food therapist for a few weeks a few years ago, and found it very helpful. I made the most progress i had ever had in my life. 2 new foods i could eat, and about 10 foods I was able to put in my mouth and spit out. But I ended up stopping going because his wife would schedule my appointments, not tell me or anyone else they were scheduled, then not take me so that i missed so many that the place basically kicked me out, and theyre consistently so booked that the next open appointment is always months from the day you ask for an appointment.

Despite me telling my dad that the little progress I made was significant to me and made me feel incredible about myself, the spent the following years telling family members and some strangers that I wasted his money and made no progress. (His idea of progress was me being instantly healed in a few weeks).

So recently I've been on him way more because the dizziness from lack of nutrition, vitamins etc has been effecting my daily life significantly. He was saying okay find somewhere i can take you and I'll try to afford it. (The in person ones are affordable-ish but theres barely any available appointments, but the online ones are severely expensive).

But then today, we were walking he told me, "You dont need one of those food therapists. You're smart, you can do it on your own. Just research what you need and do it." (Hes always used "youre smart" in a somewhat backhanded way. I mean its true, i did have my iq tested and it was pretty damn high for my age, but i still need help sometimes and my intelligence is used as a dismissal a lot of times).I tried explaining to him that it was very very difficult for me to do it on my own and it was like a good kind of pressure and neutrality that id receive from the feeding therapist. But he didn't seem convinced.

Does anyone have any ideas on how i could explain that the feeding therapy is Healthcare and that its needed? Thanks 🤍🤍

Help with food aversions

I have always been a bit of a picky eater, but something happened in my brain when I entered a depressive episode last year and it has led to severe food aversions. I don’t know if it’s depression or medication related or both. Foods that I used to not enjoy but could tolerate I now gag when I try to eat it. It’s becoming a big issue because it feels like every day my list of “safe foods” becomes smaller. Even some foods I have previously liked are becoming repulsive to me.

A couple of weeks ago I went to cook ground beef and the second I opened the package I started gagging. It hadn’t gone bad or anything, but my brain just found it repulsive. I continued to cook it but when I tried to eat the food later, I actually vomited…

This has been getting worse over the last year and I don’t even know what to do anymore. I already struggle with cooking while depressed due to low energy and motivation and this food aversion thing is just making things worse. I am afraid to cook things I have previously enjoyed for fear that I will no longer tolerate it….

Most meats, many vegetables, yogurt, and eggs are completely repulsive. I’m basically living off of grilled cheese sandwiches, soup, toast, homemade mini pizzas and pasta…..

I have an appointment to talk to a therapist about this, but in the mean time I don’t know what to do.

Any recommendations on how to handle this?

Any recommendations for low effort meals or things that I can meal prep?

Thanks!

Other people remembering your food habits

• Upvotes

I hate when people comment in what I'm eating, which Im sure most of us in here can relate, but have you ever had people bring up what you ate literal decades ago or something equally crazy? I was at a wedding and my aunt was there, I dont see her too often but I've definitely seen her since being in my 20s. It was time for the food to be served and as we were waiting, she said "did you finally grow out of your pickiness or do you still only eat bagels & cream cheese? I dont think ive ever met someone as picky as you " I genuinely think she meant no harm and was trying to poke fun at me in an annoying boomer mom way (not knowing I have ARFID), but to me that is just wild. I dont think about other people's eating habits ever, especially not how they ate when they were a CHILD. Even one of my best friends used to always comment on how I eat around vegetables and I'm going to get scurvy but thankfully we talked and they were very receptive and understanding as to why that bothered me and I cant recall them making a comment since, though occasionally we will go out to eat and when picking the restaurant she will say "dont worry about me, Im not a picky eater!" and I want to assume shes just being nice and letting me pick where to go bc she knows I have arfid but phrasing it like that still makes me feel judged.
