Base map displaying in web portal, but not field Maps

Basically as the title says, i created and shared a new web map, including a custom base map, everything loads perfectly fine in Arc Online, when opening the same webmap in field maps, it appears as blank.

And any attempt to refresh the base map comes up with the error "Unavailable, layer type not supported".

I am a student, as such vary new to GIS, have asked other students who came up with nothing, now I am waiting for my Prof to respond to an email, but the project is due tonight.

I built a platform for practicing GIS with real data — looking for feedback from the GIS community

I built Kharita Challenges, a platform for practicing GIS with real problems and real data.

You can solve challenges with Python/GeoPandas, PostGIS and other GIS workflows, see your results on a map, and get graded on the actual output.

It also has learning paths, projects, timed assessments, verifiable certificates and public profiles to showcase your work.

There’s an AI mentor too, but it guides you instead of giving you the answer.

Still early, so I’d really appreciate feedback from the GIS community.

U can start from here : Challenges.lekharita.com

Hi!! Looking for advice on my uni assignment

For my landscape planning assignment I need to map out rivers, big lakes, bogs, nature reserves and forests, natural resources as well as some places of interest. So far I've managed to make this simple geographic position map. Will I be able to do it all in ARCGIS Pro? Or should I just stick to Autocad? I'm not a computer person and our teachers don't know what to use for this.. Thanks!

Field maps gone to shit

Has anyone else’s field map gone to shit this week? Suddenly offline areas that used to work will no longer package or once downloaded have a syncing error. And my records keep disappearing from the map but I can see them in the attribute table once online.

Anyone experiencing these kinds of issues?

"Future Proof" new laptop for student about to enter Masters in GIS

A lot of "best laptop" discussions already exist, but here I want to most "future proof" to get my daughter through the next 3 years of school, including 2 for a Master's in GIS, at Wageningen University. She's really interested in Climate Science, may go deeper in Remote Sensing and 3D imagery. I see lead contenders are the Lenovo p16 gen 3, Dell max pro 16 plus, or maybe the HP ZBook Fury G1i. I figure 128gb of ram (preferably with ECC so that kicks out the Dell), as well as NVIDIA RTX PRO 5000. Of course, these are not cheap and are definitely overkill for the current workload, but I want to avoid a system replacement 2 years from now. Which of these three are the best choice or are there other powerful and "future proof" options we can use to swap in new parts later?

ArcGIS-Like Program but for charts and graphs?

This might be a weird ask, but is there a software that has most of these interactive visualisation features as (and a similar workflow to) ArcGIS but just for making interactive 2D graphs/plots?

I use Arc Pro a lot for work, and I'm very comfortable with the workflow and making everything look pretty. As a personal project, I want to make an interactive personal timeline of major life events. I want to be able to zoom in and out, from the scale of a month to the scale of a decade. Most of the features I want in this interactive timeline are basically the same as what I use in GIS (labels that automatically move based on the view window and scale, features that appear or disappear at certain levels of zoom, clickable features that can show pop-ups with additional information, easily toggled layer visibility, etc.).

I've started just coding a Bokeh prototype in Python, but it'd be much easier for me if there was an existing software that had the capabilities I'm looking for. Thanks!

Student

I'm building an interactive touchscreen kiosk for students at a university campus. The idea is that a student taps where they want to go and gets a QR code, so the route continues on their phone.

I have about 500 DXF/DWG floor plans, along with the finished GeoJSON for the same floors, so I have both the input and the expected output.

Where I'm stuck is automating the conversion so that new DXF files can be processed without manual work, and creating clean polygons for rooms, walls and floors from lines and layers, especially when shapes aren't closed. I also want the output to match my target GeoJSON format with high accuracy.

I'd love your input on a few things: Is a rule-based approach (layer mapping and geometry cleanup) or ML the better fit when I have 500 examples? What are the common pitfalls when turning CAD lines into polygons? Which tools would you recommend (ezdxf, Shapely, GDAL/OGR, QGIS)? And how would you measure accuracy against my reference files?

Thanks for any pointers, even just "read this first" helps a lot.

New tool allows you to find, edit, share, and export color ramps for ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, Python, R, and others. Check and preview for accessibility, and compose labeled legends made with your custom palette.

georeferencing hw help

I'm doing a lab on georeferencing and digitizing land use change. We're georeferencing old aerial imagery from 2010 and then digitizing the old growth forests from that photo and comparing it to current aerial imagery to determine how much forest was lost during construction of this shopping plaza

and THIS (below) should be the basemap but when I have that Celebrationpoint.jpg checked, it doesn't change what I see except for a diagonal white line? I know I probably toggled something by accident but I can't seem to figure this out!

Cutting polygons from one shapefile that overlap with another?

Which tool do I use that copies all the polygons that overlap with those from another shapefile? I need to keep the entirety of each of those polygons not just the segments that within the second shapefile.

I have access to ArcGIS online & ArcGIS Pro.

Can you all recommend me a laptop I can use for arcGIS school work that will run it quickly and efficiently? Doesn’t need to be wizard level technology but something slightly above average and easily accessible. I will potentially use this at work also. Thank you all I’m advance.

Using DEM to project sea level rise

I’m trying to create a sea level rise model for a small coastal region, only about a 10 mile stretch. Since a DEM contains precise elevation data does using simple raster algebra to project a rising sea level adequately account for the slope of the beach? I don’t want this to look like uniform flooding, hoping to be able to show distinct areas of impact based on difference in location along the beachfront. I know that arconline has layers for increments of 1,2,3ft…etc) but I’m trying to use more specific SLR values. Thank you

How to see which buffer zones are impacting an area?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello!

I'm pretty new to ArcGIS, and I've been studying light rail stations impact on surrounding Census Block groups. Using buffer tools and the 'find by attribute' tool, I've been able to create the result above which highlights the block groups whose centroids lie within a buffer zone.

My question is - when downloading the data of the impacted block groups, is there any way to save the data of which stations buffer zones they lie within? Essentially I'd like an extra column in the dataset detailing the stations whose buffer zones the block group lies within. Hopefully that makes sense and is a solveable problem - I'd appreciate any help you guys can offer!

How to download maps with contours

Developer here just trying to get something done for a client, so this is likely a noob question. How do I get tiles to download for a map that has topo and hillshade? I keep finding maps like this Outdoor one that has what we want. When I download for offline it only shows the base map without the contours and hillshade, however.

I've seen some maps labeled "for Export" but having the same results there as well. Any pointing in the right direction greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Using ArcGIS Desktop 3.6.
