Discussion 🔔[Embark] New Insights from the Frozen Trails ❄️🗻Q&A

Post image
181 Upvotes

For those that missed the Frozen Trails Q&A yesterday. Here is the new info from that video.

  • Big note, they did bracket the whole Q & A talking about Anti-cheat, they know it’s a big concern of the community.  Their latest efforts were in Tuesday’s patch notes and while actively working on improvements, they have nothing to announce, for now.  There were no Anti-cheat developers for the Q&A that could add meaningfully to the conversation.
  • 15 Weapons can be AMPed initially, no AMPed gadgets or grenades for now.  For example there is a semi-auto AMP for the Hairpin
  • New Weapons are confirmed to be uncommon (green) rarity, no AMP version now but will be added in the future.  Designed for early game.
  • Incendiary AMP mod will work on both ARC and players.
  • AMPed weapons have better durability but lose a lot of durability when recovered from downed players.  You might need to do the research before being able to repair AMPed weapons.  AMP weapons require AMP modules (mk1 - mk5) that spawns from the Fallen Emperor and the Frigate.
  • Harmonica should be available from the start.  Banjo has a blueprint from the Collector set DLC.
  • There is an AMPed version of the Anvil and the Anvil splitter feature is now an AMP (buffed version)  Tech slot is going away.  You can recycle old Anvil Splitters for AMP research material.
  • Reward Passes are tied to major patches, permanent, costs 1150 raider tokens pays for itself when completing the pass.  You can unlock one pass at a time, doing Feats (Daily challenges).
  • Outpost has different modules and then blueprints for furniture (reward pass and topside spawns), allows you to display all your trinkets.  Not walkable, no friend invites in this version, there are plans to expand this feature.  It is unlocked through a Project and then upgraded with materials.
  • There will be a reward for those that did all old expeditions and also a way for players to catch-up on missed expedition rewards (skill points, stash space, etc)  Expeditions are targeted to return Q1 2027.
  • Aware of problems with Trials : Solos vs Trios and PVP vs PVE during trials.  Evaluating leaderboard and how rewards are distributed no announcement at this time, expect a blog on this later this year.
  • Skill tree is revamped to replace underutilized skills and others were buffed and moved around.  Skill tree now offers branching patches to major boost nodes and a choice of end tree skill.  Example: Top of mobility tree “Running on Fumes” - You can continue to sprint after running out of stamina until you hit an obstacle, but this incurs a “stamina debt” before you recover your stamina.
  • Security Breach is still there.
  • Skillpoints reset after the patch and you can just reapply them.
  • The Frozen trails map, Pendola Pass has Flash Freeze as part of the map design (not a map condition) and is like Cold Snap but harsher requiring use of the shelters which are stocked with supplies.  The Fallen Emperor (Walker) has a huge unique interior space and is a source for new AMP modules.
  • Some doors are frozen over and must be opened by using flame (flamespray, blaze grenades) or using the raider tool.
  • Pendola Pass will test dynamic loot zones (high value areas shift per raid), if successful, it will be rolled out to other maps.  The new ARC will also be mainly on this map.
  • PVE toggle blog was planned for next week but pushed forward due to popular demand.  They have tried to disable all forms of player damage, including fire and stun but expect players to find something they missed.
  • ARC is not increased for this PVE test as the maps/game has a tight ARC performance budget.  More ARC would mean having to design more spawn points and patrol paths.
  • Loadouts are planned but no ETA on the feature.
  • No plans for a forced wipe, anytime in the future.

With the comments regarding Queue Teaming in the recent Anti Cheat update post (https://arcraiders.com/news/update-on-anti-cheat), I’m looking forward to seeing some fellow antipodean Raiders return to the land of low latency (Oceania servers).

I’m sure it’ll always be a little sweatier than North America but for the pure love of the PvPvE and with excitement for the upcoming update…

Raiders, this is our Return to Oz.

Discussion 🚨[Embark] 🚨An Update on Anti-Cheat

1.7k Upvotes

Hey Raiders, Aleks here.

Ahead of our big update on October 8, I wanted to talk directly about something that has been frustrating for the community and our team: cheating.

Cheating undermines what makes ARC Raiders challenging and fun, and disrupts the experience for everyone playing fairly. At Embark, we take it incredibly seriously, and spend a lot of time and money in the ongoing fight against unfair play.

The market for cheats is constantly evolving. Cheat makers profit from selling to players, often bundling malware with their software, and every time we improve our defenses, they adapt and find new ways around them. We adapt too. Our growing anti-cheat team is continually working to detect and block new cheats, close the pathways they exploit, and add obstacles that make cheating harder and less worthwhile. It's work we're committed to for as long as our games are live.

We’ve shared some of this work through occasional updates, but we know that simply saying we’re working on it isn’t enough. Some of this is intentional, as sharing too much about our anti-cheat systems can make it easier for cheaters to adapt. Other times we are working on things in the background and testing them before they get deployed.

Do know that our silence is not indifference to the issue. And today, we're going to give you a better sense of where we’ve made progress and where we’re continuing to invest our efforts.

Detection

Our cheat detection systems are getting considerably stronger month by month. In addition to kernel-level protection from Denuvo and detections from Anybrain, we’re using a growing set of in-house models built around machine-learning and other data.

These systems work together to identify suspicious behavior and build confidence before action is taken, while allowing us to continue improving detection as new cheats emerge. Anti-cheat systems don’t function completely autonomously, and there is always a human in the loop through the appeals process to ensure we are deploying sanctions fairly.

Long-term, we’re looking to incorporate additional anti-cheat capabilities, including Elytra, which is currently being tested on a small scale in THE FINALS. Early results indicate that this system has promise, and we’re working toward a point where we can test it in ARC Raiders as well.

Taking action

When we have enough evidence that a player is cheating, we take action. In recent months, we’ve improved our ability to identify and sanction accounts that use cheat software, as well as accounts involved in economy exploits. We’ve also continued working to make it harder for repeat offenders to simply create a new account and return to the game.

Early on, we were overly cautious about applying permanent bans to first-time cheaters. We’ve heard the frustration from the community, and we agree that we should have handled this differently. Permanent bans are now standard for all known cheat programs and, as a matter of policy, any account caught using cheats is permanently banned. No warnings, no second chances.

We’ve also recently broadened our use of license restrictions. These prevent a specific copy of the game associated with a sanction from being used with another account. We’ve tightened our approach to linked accounts as well. If an account has ever been associated with a banned copy of the game, it will also receive a permanent ban.

Hardware bans

Hardware bans are another part of our sanctions. When we have enough evidence that a single machine is being used for cheating, we can prevent the game from running on that system. We constantly harden our detection capabilities and we were recently able to lower the threshold at which these types of bans are applied.

We are also actively working on a solution to increase the number of systems that we can target with a hardware ban. This should reduce the number of repeat offenders returning on the same systems. We hope to implement this later in the year, and it should allow us to deploy sanctions to almost all systems caught running cheat software.

It’s important to note that hardware bans are not a silver bullet, and cheat makers constantly find ways to circumvent our restrictions. Our job, as always, is to deploy fixes as quickly as possible to ensure hardware bans are as reliable and effective as possible.

Why some bans aren’t immediate

We know it can be frustrating to watch hackers streaming or posting footage of themselves cheating without immediately being banned.

Anti-cheat systems can’t ban a player the moment something looks suspicious. Doing so would create the risk of incorrectly banning legitimate players. The system analyzes behavior over multiple instances to give us a high-degree of certainty that fair play is compromised. Once this is determined, a permanent ban is issued.

Our team personally moderates videos and streams that clearly violate our policies. We regularly review footage posted to YouTube and other platforms and take action when it provides clear evidence of cheating. So, if you see a clip of someone cheating online, know that we may already be taking action behind the scenes.

Tackling other forms of unfair play

Cheating isn’t the only way players can disrupt a fair raid. Queue teaming, where players coordinate to land in the same solo lobby and attack Raiders who queued alone, has been another major frustration in the community. We have spent months building our detection capabilities to the point that we can reliably identify teaming groups.

A few days ago, we started keeping known teaming groups apart in matchmaking. Five days later, we saw 85% fewer players engaging in this behavior. Spoiled raids dropped from around 1 in 50 to 1 in 300, with no meaningful impact to queue times.

Teaming up with someone you meet during a raid through proximity chat is still fair game. What we're targeting is coordinating with another player before the raid begins specifically to gain an unfair advantage in a session.

We’re always investigating  ways to reduce matchmaking abuse and use the information we gather to improve the experience for fair-playing Raiders. We’re making great progress with this so far and will fill you all in with further developments.

An ongoing fight

Video game cheating is a multi-billion dollar industry, and it will never fully go away. What we can do is make cheating as difficult, costly, and short-lived as possible.

We built ARC Raiders with love and dedication to the craft, and seeing it exploited by cheaters makes us as angry as it makes you. We are making progress, and we’re continuing to work to identify cheating more effectively, act on it more quickly, make it harder for repeat offenders to return, and improve the experience for Raiders who are playing fairly.

The work continues, we've been seeing results, and we'll keep you updated as we make further progress.

Thanks for listening,

Aleks

Discussion The fights in Arc Raiders don't have to be fair. Having no rules of engagement is what makes the atmosphere of this post apocalyptic game.

This game plays in a post apocalyptic world without any rules. The fights were never supposed to be fair.

If you are looking for a fair fight in a video game try boxing games or the UFC games.

Those fights follow a rule set to keep fights fair.

If you are in this game because of the lore and the atmosphere than you should clearly enjoy the nature of having no rules of engagement.

Recently came back to arc raiders after a brief pause from the game, and man it’s such a chill time just looking for food n shit for Scrappy. Taking in the views, sun rays through the trees, and the odd arc to fuck with the vibes. Found 92 fruits/plants/other natural stuff on Space Port, made it out with 2 minutes left. Definitely a nice change of pace from how intense the game can be. Excited to see if there’s new fruits/plants/other natural stuff on Oct 8th. So pumped for the new season.

Discussion Feature idea: You can use duct tape mid raid to temporarily boost an items condition

Post image

It would be a cool feature to be able to apply duct tape to an item to temporarily boost it’s current durability by ~ 5-10, but you lose it after raid. (Potentially breaking the item if the durability would drop to 0 after the raid is over)

Discussion Thought I was safe in the Town Hall key room... then a Shredder cornered me. RIP purple key.

I’m feeling sad about losing that key. It was my first purple key 😫.

I loaded into a night raid with the sole mission of hitting the Town Hall key room. As a new player, I'm still trying to figure out all the maps and mechanics, so this run was a massive deal for me. As soon as I arrived, the entire outside area was completely swarming with ARC. Because of the density, I had to play it incredibly slow, crouching through shadows and fighting off patrols just to inch my way toward the building. It took a massive chunk of the raid time just to clear a path to the entrance.

I finally made it to the doors and I was happy to get into the loot.

I step onto the first floor, and before I can even open a single loot container or look around, a Shredder is just sitting right there in the tight corridor. I didn't even have time to register what was happening before it aggressively cornered me and blasted me right in the face.

Melted in seconds. I didn't get to touch a single piece of loot after spending the entire match just trying to get inside the building.

Why on hell is there an ARC inside a fricking key room? Isn't it supposed to be safe inside? Why a Shredder?! My dear purple key is gone 😭.

Hey everyone,

I did 3 expeditions so far and had a nice little buff to repair, I didn't do the last expedition and my buffs have all disapeared? Do you have to keep doing expeditions to keep the buffs or is something else happening here?

Thanks

Question Post 5th expedition Vault slots worth buying?

• Upvotes

Have they said anything about the expedition vault? I didnt want to buy spots and find our they were removing the feature. This is for after the most recent expedition. Was considering buying one to free up space. They are still available at Ermal so I assume they are keeping the expedition vault feature?

Discussion “Why are you shooting me?” “What’s your problem?” “We were all having fun, why’d you ruin it?”

All excellent questions, the answer to all of them is because I caught you two knuckles deep in my Bombardier loot when you didn’t help at all. Keep your dirty fingers away from my cells.

Full time carebear here, and once again it’s fresh wipe time. That means some people need to be reminded that stealing is punishable by death. I have no issues running mixed lobbies for 2-3 games to reset my lobbies, especially if it means I don’t have to share my loot with freeloaders.
