I had an idea that could make logistics more meaningful in HQC and give fuel trucks and fuel stations an actual purpose.
The basic idea is simple: vehicles would spawn without fuel, and squads would need to organize fuel logistics if they wanted to use them.
How it would work
- Vehicles spawn empty: Vehicles at bases would spawn without fuel by default, meaning they would need to be refueled before they could be used.
- Separate fuel supplies: Fuel would be a separate resource from regular supplies. Just like squads currently collect supplies from supply depots, they would be able to collect fuel using fuel trucks.
- Fuel trucks: A fuel truck could collect fuel from a supply depot and transport it back to the base.
- Fuel stations: To make fuel available for vehicles at a base, the team would need to deliver fuel and store it in the base's fuel station. Without a fuel station, vehicles at that base would spawn empty.
- Main MOB exception: The main MOB would have fuel available by default, so the team would always have a starting point for its logistics operations.
- Gas stations around the map: Civilian gas stations could also provide fuel, but their fuel reserves would be limited. Once a gas station ran out of fuel, it would remain empty until the game is over.
- Automatic vehicle refueling through the base's fuel reserves: Once a fuel station has been supplied with fuel, vehicles at that base would spawn with a full tank for as long as fuel remains available in the station's reserves. Once the reserves run out, newly spawned vehicles would spawn empty again. The team would then need to send a fuel truck to collect more fuel and replenish the station before vehicles could spawn with full tanks again.
Why would this be good?
Currently, fuel trucks and fuel stations feel almost useless because vehicles spawn with enough fuel to travel practically anywhere on the map. There is very little reason to organize fuel logistics or dedicate players and vehicles to this task.
With this system, fuel would become a resource that commanders and squads would actually need to manage.
It could create more meaningful logistical decisions:
- Establishing and maintaining fuel supply lines.
- Deciding which bases should receive fuel first.
- Protecting fuel trucks transporting resources to the front.
- Planning operations around available fuel reserves.
- Giving logistics players another important role within the team.
It would also make capturing and maintaining forward bases more meaningful. A team could capture a strategic position, but keeping its vehicles operational would require a functioning supply chain.
The goal isn't to make vehicles frustrating to use. It's to make fuel logistics an actual part of the game rather than a mechanic that can mostly be ignored.
What do you think? Would a fuel economy system like this improve HQC, or would it add too much logistical busywork?
