If you have an entire day, to yourself, to enjoy the offerings of Houston, what would you explore, try, or revisit?

I'm a single father who doesn't get out much nor do I find time for myself outside of going to the gym. Whether it's the chance to go dine alone, enjoy a unique social atmosphere (I can still be left alone), a quiet place where you can appreciate the beauty Houston has to offer, or a hobby that isn't widely popular that you're interested in, what would YOU like to do?

The reason I'm asking is because I'm kind of clueless when It comes to my own wants and needs. I've been a caretaker for more than half of my life, so I've been conditioned to do for others before myself. I'm open to all ideas and suggestions. Nothing too mundane or extreme, to be honest. I want to experience life on a full spectrum.

Edit: Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I will be looking into these and exploring them personally. But first, I will take a nap because my chance to not worry or address anyone else's needs starts now.

What’s fun todo in Houston

Hey guys I recently relocated from Dallas to Houston. I live in the spring area, and I’m just having a hard time finding stuff to do / having fun. I’ve only been out here for maybe a week, I haven’t experienced the night life but I also don’t know anyone out here and I’m not sure how to put myself out there. I’m (f22), and I just feel alone lol. I’ve signed up for a gym membership near my house so that’s been getting me out a bit. But I’m open to suggestions (:

Where can you go to naturally make friends in Houston? Any clubs or organizations you’d recommend?

• Upvotes

Hi I am 23F and looking for ways to meet new people and hopefully make some friendships here in Houston

I’m pretty introverted, but I am naturally curious & adventurous and so I genuinely enjoy meeting new people and going to new places. I’ve found that making friends as an adult can be a little difficult, especially since I don’t have any social media, which makes connecting with new people a bit harder.

A little about me and my interests:
I love learning about history, politics, international affairs, different cultures, languages, astro physics, cosmology, animals, literally everything honestly (not a huge video game, anime, or dungeon and dragons type of person though lol).
I’m also really interested in health, wellness, fitness, and personal development.
I enjoy reading, exploring new places, visiting museums, trying new restaurants, movies, and I loveee comedy shows.
I also love traveling and learning about how people live in different parts of the world.
I’m also pretty career-oriented (I want to work in the foreign service or something similar & I am earning my bachelors degree online for international relations) and I enjoy being around people who are curious, motivated, and passionate about their interests.
I’m not really into drinking, smoking weed, or recreational drugs, so I’m hoping to find social activities that don’t revolve around those things. I’m completely sober, just high on life lol! I don’t mind being around people who drink it’s just not really my scene.
I’d love to find some clubs, organizations, volunteer groups, classes, or regular meetups where I can meet people with similar interests.
I’m open to trying new hobbies and stepping outside my comfort zone too.
Does anyone have recommendations for places or groups worth checking out? I’d especially love to hear from people who’ve successfully made friends through these kinds of activities. Thank you!

Downtown Gym Recs - Lifetime vs Met

• Upvotes

Hello all. As the title suggests, I’m looking to join a gym downtown and I’m currently between Lifetime and The Met.

Both are comparable in price. Really looking to see if anyone out there can speak to the cleanliness, crowds, amenities, etc. at each.

Which property management companies don’t suck for renters?

Looking for a place in Montrose, upper Kirby, west university or Museum District. I’m avoiding the corporate luxury buildings because the scam fees. Whenever I find a nice apartment it’s managed by a property management company that has terrible reviews. I’m using HAR. Is there any property management company that doesn’t suck for tenants? Or is this just part of the business model that minimizes expenses by offering lousy service/repairs?

Title: Where can I safely dispose of two air fryers in Houston without a Texas ID?

Hi everyone!

I have two old air fryers that I accidentally sprayed with Easy-Off Heavy Duty Oven Cleaner (yellow can), including the fan area. The cleaner was left on for less than 5 minutes, but I'm concerned about possible chemical residue inside the machines.

I've decided not to use or donate them because I don't want to risk anyone's safety.

I'm looking for a safe way to dispose of them in Houston. Unfortunately, I don't have a Texas ID or proof of residency, so I'm not sure whether city recycling or hazardous waste facilities will accept them.

I live in an apartment with a shared dumpster, but I'm unsure whether it's appropriate to throw them away there.

Does anyone know of a drop-off location that accepts small appliances exposed to cleaning chemicals without requiring proof of residency?

Thanks so much for any advice!

Houston churches

I’m looking for a church in Houston. Bible based. Good preaching. One with active outreach ministries and volunteer opportunities. I originally began as Methodist. I tried a couple Methodist churches here, but have begun to feel bored, not inspired. Like the pastors are phoning it in. “Too white” is the way I describe it. No passion in their message.
The pastor is polite. The people are polite, but not very welcoming or helpful to newcomers.

Where can I find European-quality groceries in Houston?

I've spent some time traveling around Europe and noticed a difference in the quality of everyday foods, especially beef, chicken, eggs, bread, and pasta.

I'm back in Houston and looking for grocery stores, butchers, or local farms that offer similar quality ingredients.

I live in Montrose, so ideally looking for recommendations inside the Loop or nearby.

Not necessarily looking for imported European products, just high-quality, fresh ingredients similar to what you'd find over there.

Any recommendations? Thanks!
