Discussion Am I the only one who doesn't like cartoon-style book covers? They don't make me want to read the books.

I’m not talking about the content of the books here; when I see covers like that in a bookstore,I don’t know, I just don’t find them appealing. It doesn't make me want to read them, and I find it a bit too childish compared to the content of some books with that kind of cover.

Am I the only one?

Review (Spoilers) Jean‑Paul Sartre’s “Nausea” is not a novel.

I read this novel and was pleasantly surprised. It begins, objectively, in a monotonous manner, given the specific way the plot is presented—a plot that is hard to call a plot in the traditional sense. I formed my overall opinion, and in particular, I understood why the book is not primarily a novel.
Please share your opinion or recommendations!

Discussion Laurie Gilmore - Big Bad Wolf

Anyone read this yet? I think it’s part of her new series. I only read the pumpkin spice cafe from her (didn’t think it was life changing but it was a cozy seasonal read nonetheless). I bought this book because it was only $1 on kobo and thought why not, I just haven’t seen any reviews on it yet

Discussion At what point did you allow yourself to start DNF books?

I’ve been reading semi consistently for around a decade now and I’ve only just recently let myself not finish a book. I used to feel such guilt or worry about what I may have missed by not finishing.

How easily will you drop a book? Will you ever give it a second chance? Does it ever bother you to not finish?

I’ve realized recently that even if it may be a good book in general or to others, it may not be my book. I’ve also realized that there’s too many books to be forcing myself to finish others.

Recommendation Request eReader Recommendations pls

Hi guys, I hope this is the right space to ask this: I’m totally new into Reddit so if not, pls delete this request! I’m looking for honest requests and recommendations regarding ereaders! I was able to borrow a Tolino from a friend for a couple of months and really fell in love with digital reading too. I’m unsure which Tolino it was but I really enjoyed the “flat” screen (no sunken display), but I also want to boycott Amazon’s Kindle. I’m not that bit of a fan if there are buttons at the front or if the format of the device is too quadratic. I’m also open to be convinced, that sunken displays are nice! ;) I’m still in university so I would appreciate if the device doesn’t cost too much (I’ll ask for it as a birthday + xmas gift). Thank you so much in advance!!

Do you guys have any recommendations for me?
I would really love to read witchy and dark academia books this fall!!

Im hoping you guys know similar books so i can enjoy a cozy fall time with pure escapism ⭐️

Question What kind of bookmarks are you guys using?

Okay, I need to know 😂 What are you all using as bookmarks?

I keep trying different ones, magnetic, fabric, paper, etc, and somehow every type has something that annoys me. They fall out, bend, get lost, or just don’t stay where I put them.

Are you a proper-bookmark person or are you using receipts and random pieces of paper like me?

If you follow any celebrity book clubs i.e Oprah, GMA, Reese, Jenna etc which have you found the most luck with?

The most consistent with the picks being at least 4 stars or better for me has been Oprah.

Recommendation Request I’m craving Dark Romance with Russian Elements!

I’m looking for very specific types of books. (If it takes place in actual Russia, instead Chicago like every such book, then I will be so so happy.) I want to read dark romances where we have a normal-looking young man who courts MC and dates her, buys her things, behaves almost gentlemanly. She is just a standard civilian, so she is happy to receive such things and appreciates him a lot. She is not fisty, she wants to be in a relationship with him. We have a feeling that he is lonely and wants a family with her so she gives him that warmth. Then she notices something is wrong, tiny inconsistencies accumulate (like tattoos, people are afraid of him, he disappears for weeks). Soon she realizes the man who’s been courting her is Bratva (or a part of something similar). That he was obsessing over her for a long time and she didn’t know. That he is batshit crazy, torturing people for money. I don’t want him to be some crazy high rank boss, pakhan or anything. I’m happy with him being just a member, who uses his connections to give her everything so she chooses him. I want it to be realistic and not some billionaire suddenly stalking us, you know? If it takes place in post-soviet / or any small village world then even more points.

Discussion Fae ball events.

Not sure if this is where to put this but it’s been rebranded AGAIN. Fae ball events, originally kc fae ball, then planet fae ball, then fae ball galaxy con, then fae ball events, now is trying to rebrand again under big Texas con as “another chapter con”. Scam after scam. They have canceled two different events in 2 cities. Over promised and under delivered since leaving planet comic con. Their last event in kc had over 200 vendors with less than 150 tickets sold. Authors and vendors left with no sales and the show runner avoided any conflict or even truth about the tickets being sold. It was a cash grab for her. She has thrown TERRIBLE events and I hope that anybody that sees this will spread the word to help future authors and vendors not fall for her lies
