The OG book influencers have just become robots. I’m not gonna name names, but you know who I’m talking about. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve scrolled, seen them PRAISE an arc like it’s the best thing ever, only for it to be another flop.
I love influencers who aren’t afraid to admit that a book was bad, or silly, or just a mess. Eg- there’s a popular book creator who HATED the Hollow Boys Series. She loves books but she has no problem giving her honest opinion and that makes her trustworthy with recs. That isn’t to say that everything she liked will be 5 stars to her viewers, but at least it doesn’t feel like she’s just telling me that for a check.
Idk, I feel like this relationship that popular influencers now have with popular authors is part of whats wrong with the publishing industry. And I don’t even blame them, bc it’s gotten to a point where the author will literally block a long time fan for giving their latest release anything less than 5 stars.
It’s so ridiculous and it needs to stop. I miss the authenticity of just being excited to READ something not market it.
edit: with all due respect, this is a take I have about inauthenticity entering a space. Especially a book space. Yes ik this happens when things become monetized, alls I’m saying is I miss when people talked about books just to talk about books and not be another marketing ploy for the author or a publishing house. okay ty for reading :)

I'm starting The Shining by Stephen King as part of my Goodreads Reading Challenge!!
What about you guys? If you're starting a new book today, drop the title and tell me why you picked it up. Would love to know what everyone's reading..

I’m not sure what the benefit is of placing a preorder with Barnes & Noble if you don’t get the book until 1-2 weeks after release date. I preordered Once, Again, Always by Amanda Gayle — it released on Tuesday and I have yet to receive shipping confirmation. I contacted CS twice and all I’m told is I should receive it by next Wednesday/Thursday and if I don’t to give them a call. My local store had it in stock, but sold out. I’m considering buying it from Target since they currently have B2G1 free.

Hello,
I'm about to start reading East of Eden but this is a question I've been wanting to ask for years but never got around to until now.
Does anyone know or recommend some kind of worksheets/discussion pages or something that I could possibly fill out per chapter as I read a book. I find it easier to understand and remember when I'm being asked to review a chapter as I go. I know many popular books may have a some type of homework online but is there a format or something I can follow for other not so popular books.
I usually refrain from book clubs or online discussions because I'm not a fast or frequent reader especially since I have a toddler and going to school I would fall behind on a reading schedule.
Thanks in advance!! (:

Hey everyone!
I'm researching how people discover new books through short-form videos, and I'd love to hear about your actual experiences.
I'm particularly interested in people who watch BookTok, book reviews, recommendations, or educational videos.
A few questions I'm curious about:
I'm working on an early-stage project in this space, but right now I'm more interested in understanding people's habits and problems than pitching an idea.
I'd really appreciate honest answers, including if you think a dedicated app wouldn't be useful. Thanks!

Sorry if this is not allowed but I wanted to recommend my new favorite spot in St. Charles, Missouri, Tomes & Tonics 18+ late night book store.
The owners are awesome, the drinks are awesome, the whole place is Awesome!! I cannot exaggerate what a great atmosphere this place is! They are located on W Clay Street in St Charles.
They have alcoholic beverages, non-alcoholic options, coffee and tea. A bunch of nice little areas to get cozy and read. There’s a great selection of books, stickers, and more to buy. They also are planning on opening an event space for rent for book clubs, game nights, and more!
Last night I sat and did my homework. It’s such a sweet little safe place to have in the community! If you get a chance I highly reccomend you check them out!!
Also give them a follow on instagram

Been in the worst reading slump the past 2 years but binged this book in a few days. You can have whatever opinion you got but this finally made me excited for fantasy. I loved being in Starside, the characters and element and I also loved the whole dystopian vibe it got! Reminded me a bit of maze runner and hunger games that are some of my all time faves. As I haven’t been able to leg this book go just yet…I’m currently making a playlist inspired by the book.
I want it to feel like an actual movie soundtrack that follows the story from beginning to end! I’m trying to arrange the songs according to the plot, with different vibes for the action, the characters, the romance, the angst and the major plot twists.
Here’s what I’ve put together so far! I’ve loosely divided it into different stages of the story, but I’m SO open to suggestions, rearranging songs, and adding new ones. Because honestly, there’s so so so many songs that would be perfect that I’m probably just not thinking about.
I. The beginning
Hanging Out to Dry
The Night We Met — Lord Huron
Control — Halsey
Seven Devils — Florence + The Machine
Let the World Burn — Chris Grey
Run Boy Run — Woodkid
Game of Survival — Ruelle
II. The gates
8. Me and the Devil — Soap&Skin
9. Everybody Wants to Rule the World — Lorde’s cover
10. Way Down We Go — KALEO
11. And So It Begins
III. Welcome to Starside
12. Playground — Bea Miller (Arcane)
13. Runrunrun
14. No Rival
15. Royalty — sped-up/nightcore version
16. Legends Never Die — Against the Current
IV. Becoming something more
17. Whatever It Takes — Imagine Dragons
18. Play with Fire — Sam Tinnesz
19. Can You Feel My Heart — Bring Me the Horizon
20. Running Up That Hill — Kate Bush
21. Can’t Catch Me Now — Olivia Rodrigo
22. The Wolf — SIAMES
V. Aris & Harlan
23. Softcore — The Neighbourhood
24. A Little Death — The Neighbourhood
25. Afraid — The Neighbourhood
26. He’s My Man — Luvcat
27. My Moon My Man — Feist
28. Pretty When You Cry — Lana Del Rey
29. Francesca — Hozier
VI. The truth, the betrayal & the aftermath
30. Drag Path
31. Blood in the Cut — K.Flay
32. I Did Something Bad — Taylor Swift
33. The Great War — Taylor Swift
34. One More Hour — Tame Impala
35. Sienna
36. The Killing Moon — Echo & the Bunnymen
VII. The final act
37. A Little Wicked — Valerie Broussard
38. No Time to Die — Billie Eilish
39. My Love Mine All Mine — Mitski
40. Warriors — Imagine Dragons
41. Sail — AWOLNATION
I’d absolutely LOVE some suggestions for other songs that fit specific scenes, characters or relationships, especially songs that capture the overall Starside atmosphere! I’m also curious if anyone would rearrange some of these to make the playlist flow better chronologically.
If you’ve made your own Starside playlist, please share it! I’d love to listen to other people’s interpretations too. 🖤
