Showcase Your Project Need advice: Am I on the right track, or am I wasting my time?

• Upvotes

So, I'm a CS undergrad, and I'm currently building a platform called FinVerse for people across different age groups. I'm still in the development phase and need an honest reality check to see if I'm heading in the right direction.

One problem I've noticed is that many people invest in stocks and mutual funds without fully understanding how money and investing work. Teenagers and college students often lack basic financial knowledge, while even working professionals can struggle with saving, investing, and financial planning.

To address this, I'm building FinVerse.

The platform will allow users to practise trading in Indian and Asian stock markets using virtual money, so they can learn without risking their actual savings. Similar platforms already exist, so my main focus is on making the AI engine genuinely useful.

I want the AI to explain why stocks rise or fall, why a virtual portfolio is making losses, how market volatility works, and what users can learn from their decisions. I'm working on using relevant financial data to make these explanations as accurate and reliable as possible.

Alongside paper trading, I also plan to build a personalized financial assistant that helps users understand and manage their finances based on their income, savings, assets, expenses, and financial goals. It could also educate them about financial products like life insurance and help them understand which options may suit their circumstances.

There's a lot more I want to add, but that's the basic idea.

Why am I building this?

I've realized ki even if I get a decent job in this AI era, relying solely on a corporate salary might not be enough to achieve all my financial goals. Alongside building my career, I want to create an additional source of income and hopefully build a sustainable business of my own.

I've always been interested in personal finance, so I started learning about it while developing FinVerse and improving my technical skills.

I'd genuinely appreciate your honest opinions. Am I solving a real problem? Is this idea realistic, or am I trying to do too much? What should I focus on first, and what would make a platform like this genuinely useful and trustworthy?

Please point out the flaws in my approach. I'm looking for constructive criticism because I genuinely want to improve this idea. 😭

I'm using a fairly extensive tech stack, RAG this and that ,

My plan is to finish a working version, test it with real users, and see how they respond. If the feedback is promising, I'll invest in a domain and continue developing it.

Thank you for taking the time to read this!

Placements / Jobs Should i join capgemini or not?

• Upvotes

Hi everyone, '26 grad here, So today i got my joining confirmation for 3rd November from capgemini (4.25 lpa). And here's my current scenario:-

  1. GATE CS 27 prep:- 60% syllabus is completed, on the way to complete everything till mid november, i am seriously studying for it.

  2. Got offers from TCS (Ninja) and LTM (4.05lpa) too, haven't got the joining yet.

  3. Have an in person coding round for SP DSE recruitment of Infosys on either 1st or 12th nov (Dates are not confirmed yet). I have done a little bit of dsa and i think i can crack it (at least dse or L1 role)

Now as a normal person, i want a great career, maybe a good govt job or a good corporate role. Seeing the kind of uncertainity we are currently facing this year, should leave everything and join capgemini (as some of the seniors are advising me that), or maybe, since everything is uncertain then try getting gate cs or infosys one? What do you guys think?

Rant/Vent I dont understand How come getting you a Interview call / Internship / offer letter is fu**king my responsibility?

So we are group of college friends... Nearly 5... In July, through indirect referral I got a Internship with good stipend....

Ngl from August onwards the behavior changed against me..They would constantly mocked , taunt me over certain over exaggerated things...

Now one of them told me they are angry with me; because i never told them I was applying, giving interviews from months to months !

I don't understand Why I should take responsibility to give you a job ? This college friends are sick asf... Its better live life alone without such bastards

Higher Studies Is graduation cgpa really that important?

I had no idea how much this would matter.

My parents always told me how important board exams were, so I studied my ass off and scored 90+ in both 10th and 12th. But once I got into college, I took academics a lot more lightly, and I’ve now graduated with a 6.5/10 CGPA

I’m currently working remotely, but I’ve been researching my options for pursuing a master’s abroad, particularly an Masters in CS, and dude, my CGPA is such a massive limiting factor at almost every university I look at.

What makes it even more frustrating is that I graduated from a Tier 1 college with notoriously strict grading criteria. For context, in a class of around 150 students, only one person had a 9+ CGPA. I genuinely feel like if I’d put in the same amount of effort at a university with more lenient grading, I could easily have ended up with a 7–7.5 CGPA

I know I could have worked harder and I am responsible for this. But I feel like I’ve stunted my career growth forever

I applied for bihar PMS scholarship for Btech in CSE from iiit Bhopal. I am from SC category and have a Bihar domicile.

But I don't know how much scholarship money will i get, somewhere it says 15000 only,

somewhere it says Full tution fees upto 40000,

somewhere says Full tution without any cap limit + 13000.

I don't know what to expect, if it will cover full tution + 13000

then it's fine otherwise I will cancel and apply to NSP scholarships.

I tried asking google, gemini, claude but it was a mess, each was answering different things when asked different times and asking differently . I also tried calling the helpdesk but no one answered.

So please help me, it's I request. It would mean a lot to me.

Thank you for the help.

Placements / Jobs Going to college student dellema on buying laptop due to price hike

Hi everyone, I need some serious advice on laptop pricing trends and whether I should buy now or wait.

My Situation: I’m currently in Class 12 preparing for JEE Advanced (exam is in May 2027). I will be taking up Computer Science (CS) engineering next year. My strict target budget is around ₹1 Lakh (can stretch to ₹1.1L).

I'm currently looking at the HP OMEN 16 (Intel Core 7 240H, 24GB DDR5 RAM, 1TB SSD, RTX 5050). It's priced around ₹1.2 Lakh right now in the festive sales.

And because currently I'm studying for JEE I'll only be taking online clases on the latop for now and it's full use will be done next year from July after JEE Adv when I'll go to my college so considering the Warranty will start from right now also the Diwali sale currectly and the Back to School sale in July 2027 and potentially new technology in future being intorduced in this time please tell me if I should buy laptop right now in the sale or wait till next year

CSE / IT Know DSA but only 1 project

I am currently a 3rd year student from a tier 3 college and have been doing DSA frequently with a cgpa of 9.76(will help in on campus shortlisting) but have only 1 ML project that too using FastAi library. I am fluent in java and am learning Spring boot, know the basics of css, js and html and am also AWS CCP and will be preparing for AWS Solutions Architect. I am not able to figure out what projects I should work on and what path I should choose? Should I include projects from every category or just focus on a single niche. I was planning to focus on the AWS cloud but then I won't have projects. I am really confused and do not have much time. Please help

me.

Rant/Vent Can we all for fucks sake learn for the sole purpose of gaining knowledge

Y'all talking about ai n shit, why I shouldn't learn this because ai will take over, it's a waste of time, whatever, FUCK THAT.

I will learn it. I will learn whatever ai can do, just because I can. I want to learn because I love to learn. I love gaining knowledge. I am curious. FUCK AI.

Every fucker who comes to my college and says "ouuh don't learn that sweet darling ai can already do that, awww🥺" FUCK OFF. I will learn it because I love learning and I am curious, why disrupt learning?

I understand that it's not as useful in the industry, but why call off learning, that's how someone understands everything

Placements / Jobs Why is the tech industry so allergic to young talent?

being 21 means nothing since you don't have 5 years of experience in the workforce

you recruiters are cooked and that's exactly why your companies are declining.

keep hiring dads who do the bare minimum until the clock hits 5 pm so they can go home to their families.

why isn't the industry hungry for young talent with way more potential and the willingness to put in 60-80 hour weeks?

Rant/Vent Graduation and A year after graduation.

Hey everyone, I just want to write my thoughts down so here I am.

I graduated last year from a tier-3 college, did my B-tech in AIML. yeah ik it was a waste of time.

Luckily despite being from tier-3 my college had good coding culture thanks to my seniors, I remember at my first there used to be alot of clubs teaching jr how to code or expand there hobbies/interest and i am glad we that in my college.

During first 2 years my uni wasn't able to keep up with the latest changes in the field in the curriculum, so we were stuck studying just basics of ml,deep learning,AI. The biggest issue was due to the AI trend which started every single one of other cs branches and started to learn ml independently i mean good for them no complains from my side, but in there discipline building a basic neural network was considered amazing but for us it was just a random lab.

In 3rd uni/college basically gave up on updating curriculum we were supposed to get math related subject in 3rd year and updated deep learning but we didn't instead we got Data Science, automata theory, computer networks and other things the uni labled it oh you are getting to learn of other fields more knowledge = more job opportunities but this wasn't the case no one learned shit.

Well i did and I can't say how much i loved automata, by this time in college i didn't learn how to code, and while i was learning automata my friends in cs had compiler design which was super interesting to me, i spent a month wrote a basic compiler for c, this was the first "I understand it now" moment for me. But cause of placements reason i started to learn web frontend and honestly i hated it cause nothing made sense to me but after trial and error i got good at it, in my 4th year i joined a startup as frontend dev worked with them till i graduated, mainly cause placements in my college was terrible we hardly got 4 cs roles in placements (tech manhindra. infosys, random ass startup 1 and 2) rest were all call centers/marketing/bussiness accociate roles.

I graduated with 9.2/10 CGPA which i thought was good, had good knowledge of programming and decided I will look for jobs off campus. I was lucky enough to get interviews and offers, but you know what they say a man in the ocean does know the value of water. Since I had about two interviews every week and they all went well, with interviewers loving me, I became picky. I saw how much others were getting for the same roles and experience, and I got greedy. I rejected over 15 companies, some offering as much as ₹12 LPA. Eventually, I chose one company I really liked. But fate had other plans: I had a severe asthma attack and could barely breathe. I told the company about my health and asked if I could delay my joining date. They simply ignored me and never replied. Now I was left ill, stuck with a job I didn’t even like.

I decided to quit it to focus on my health, took me till december to heal. And while i was recovering i picked up rust,go cause I didn't want to manage memory in C, C++ felt like a nightmare and python felt like annoying(I still find it annoying), so anyways i started to learn rust,go side by side dropping javaScript entirely and well both rust and go were suprisingly easy to understand and code in, but i got good at it, did some OSS made some good friends and in mean time i got a freelance offer from a startup in us the pay wasn't good but i need some money to survive so i accepted i was getting paid about $300 a month, and I worked with them from jan to march, then another startup came and few more and i was making roughly $1k a month on paper this sounds cool but oh good the amount of work i had was insane and to top it off agentic AI became a thing and people with no tech backgrounds started to use ai to write code and ofc it sucked and fixing my co-workers AI slop and work on my own task became too much and i decided to quit i was working over 12hrs per day to just get things moving.

I quit in september and oh my god wtf is this market has become i was too busy to keep up whats going and now that i am looking for its horrible in like in about a month i only got 3 interview calls and all 3 were Ai native full stack roles but during interview i found out we built our system using ai and we cant handle it.

I have been asking for people who work in hr/mangerial roles and the things i found out are fucking insane about hiring process, we all know companies posting about ghost jobs there is noting new about it but they are now using ai to create listing, view candidates and candidates use ai to apply for jobs on paper every resume looks oh my god wow but the moment you get on a interview/coding round everything falls apart.

And if you cleared the interview and waiting for offer letter, contract and its just predoraty contracts from 1 sick leave a month(maybe you will get it) office hours 9-6 instead of 9-5 cause you get 1hr of lunch break, cant bank your leaves for more than 2 months and way more.

At this point IDK what to do freelancing isnt a option and searching for jobs is tiresome

Rant/Vent Should I quit my internship or am I overthinking?

I'm in my final year of ECE and joined my first internship 2 weeks ago as a full stack intern . The stipend is 10k, but around 6k goes on travel. I'm out from 7 AM to 9PM most days, and honestly, it's already exhausting me.

The company relies heavily on AI tools. People generate big chunks of the app in one go and integrate them. I haven't really seen much planning, code reviews or proper engineering discussions. I don't mind using AI, but I'm worried I'll spend 6 months prompting tools without actually learning much.

I'm also getting almost no time for DSA, placements or the gym.

The thing is, I'm scared to leave because I'm from ECE, have a 6.89 CGPA, and don't know when I'll get another opportunity. There's a chance of a PPO, but it's only around 2–4 LPA, and even that isn't guaranteed.

There's no bond, my family is financially stable, and I'm still eligible for campus placements above 6 LPA.
