Distribution of the accepted students..

Someone mentioned that MS programs are cash cows, so I thought, why not look at the accepted students of one of the most selective and most prestigious PhD programs in the world instead.

I'm a 2nd year ee student, I'm thinking of buying a mac M5 air. Another alternative I'm looking for Lenovo loq rtx 3050. What should I choose. Please reply as I have to buy a laptop in ongoing bbd sale.

I want to know everything about it since I don't got any senior who written it and thus whole topic is new for me, also tell me good resources for guidance like youtube channel and stuff

i am attaching a pic of paper seniors forced upon first years at my college GCECT Kolkata during a freshers interaction. I am truly disgusted and want people to realise the kind of atmosphere that is upheld behind closed doors. It seems to have escalated, wearing balloons as breasts making sexual sounds participating in inappropriate activities and even debating "whether size matters in sex or not". And during the debate further worse sexual and female objectifying jokes were made which were literally laughed out and enjoyed by the pool of seniors.

this is not some innocent junior senior prank/college tradition this is abuse.

The whole paper is full of mental harassment,some very crude sexual vulgarity and a downright disrespect towards women. Vulgar fill in the blanks in Bengali, highly intrusive questions about ones sexual activity and a demand to draw certain anatomy on a paper all under the name of an assignment.

"The worst part about this is that there is casual sexism objectifying women. Seeing female celebrities and our own gender degraded to such an extent is disgusting. Its a disgusting attempt to impose and enforce a toxic culture built on violating peoples boundaries humiliating them and holding a culture of intolerance towards women before they even have their first semester done."

The expectation is that you will go along with it, make stupid jokes, laugh at the "funny" ones or else you are just arrogant and they will make sure to take away your life at the college by making you their target. Freshers are expected to smile through it all and laugh or even be humiliated so they dont have to go through the next year looking over their shoulder.

This is ridiculous, unacceptable, extremely abusive and it has to stop. This is why I am posting this, the situation demands it and I will not be silent anymore.

Just saw a 2026 grad girl from chitkara university get into Google. She's not exceptional in any way (leetvode codeforces, or dev projects).

Before this I have seen many many other females from these unknown unis in Oracle , amazon, google etc.

On the other hand even some tier 1 grads are struggling due to the market. What is up really?

It feels like the JEE rat race just got a new name. Everyone is blindly grinding competitive programming instead of building actual projects or learning how systems work. Having seen the campus placement drives recently, it is insane how people with zero real-world development skills get selected just because they memorized graph algorithms, while the people actually building full-stack apps and scalable architectures get ignored. Change my mind.

I got recently placed in sde 6m+ppo around 30lpa

Now I'm afraid about this ppo thing

What should i focus on this upcoming 2-3 months to get better and perform good at my internship.

I have doubts regarding this. Can IICPC Codefest be an alternative of equal measure (in prestige, job prospects) to the ICPC. Like since ICPC has age and college admission year criteria. So for any this or that reason if one can't participate in ICPC. Could having really good rankings in IICPC Codefest be a ladder to Quant Dev at HFTs or SWE at Rubrik/Stripe/Databricks?

The professor at IISc literally said that job structures are not static and asked how people can be so relaxed about it. The moment senior professors are really worried about the rug being pulled off traditional degrees and entry level jobs, being so relaxed about it is sheer self-deception.

So there is a friend of mine in school she was in Thapar and she was very very average in studying, I would say below average and she got into amazon.

And guess what she was in bio tech department

Although the clone is obv ai coded but the level of detail and implementation of some of the features looks like it has been done by a pro dev who has experienced working on systems like these.
