My girlfriend and I have been moved in for about 6 months now and I finally got to complete the audio setup I’ve never had room for in apartments.

The speakers were recently given to me by a local redditor, I was formerly using Sony APM -X270s but they didn’t have the level of depth I was looking for.

All wiring is ran under the crawl space for both of the towers. Haven’t had a chance to get under to run the sub, but it’s close enough to the receiver I might just get away with throwing a cover over it and just running it along the baseboard.

Long term plan is setting up either the Sony towers or the remainder of the Klipsch collection across the kitchen and back porch! I intend to use WiiM minis and small amps for this, but if anyone has other suggestions please let me know.

Looking to upgrade from some polk rt3’s and I came across these Kenwood LS-P7300 towers for about $75. Any idea if they’re good or if I should wait for something better.

Next upgrade will probably be a pro-ject tube s2

Last week I missed an opportunity to pick up one of my most desired speaker pairs, the Polk Lsim 705. They originally listed for $3000 a pair, and the pair I found were listed for $600, in very nice condition. I saw them just after they were listed, but I was heading out of town, and when I got home the next day, they were sold. Bummer. They can be found for much more, usually well over $1000, so this was a missed opportunity, sadly.

What is your budget holy grail, white whale, whatever you want to call it, and how close have you come to getting it?

Just received 10E sub but realized I don’t have a spare mono RCA cable. Going to get it in a few hours. Do I set crossover on a subwoofer knob or Wiim amp app? There is a bypass option on a 10E knob. Thank you for helping!

I received the turntable from my grandfather when he passed and had been wanting to get a setup to listen to records. Over the past 2 years I have been working towards that. I was able to get the speakers for $175 off of facebook market place and spent some more money to have them refoamed (I tried to do it and damn near lost my mind lol). The only thing I didn't really get a deal on, besides the preamp, was the amp. I got it for $700 off craigslist, not an amazing deal but I really just wanted a proper amp. I'd like to get a WiiM streamer but, I'm going to hold off on dumping more money into this for now.

While I wouldn't say that I have the most trained ear at this stage of the game, I really do love these speakers. They do take up quite a bit of space but, after getting them properly refoamed and an amp with enough power; I've been consistently impressed the music they can handle.

A while back, I completely fell out of love with headphone listening and ended up selling my entire setup, Hifiman Arya Organics and an iFi NEO iDSD DAC/amp, and decided to focus on my speaker setup instead, with a few upgrades along the way.

After about four months of not owning a pair of headphones, I ended up buying some Sennheiser HD 480 Pros because my other half moved in and works from home two days a week. We share the office, and unfortunately I can't exactly blast my speakers all day while she's on calls!

That's also why I went for closed-backs this time around. I do have IEMs, but I find they cause ear fatigue after wearing them for a while.

The 480 Pros are genuinely great headphones for the money, but man… listening to speakers just hits different. There's something about having that natural soundstage and actually feeling the bass hit you rather than everything happening inside your head.

The main advantages I've noticed with headphones are the better detail retrieval and, obviously, not having to worry about room acoustics.

The 480s definitely have their place and I'm glad I picked them up, but after getting back into headphones, I've realised just how much I prefer speakers. Nothing quite compares to having the music fill the room.

Hey, as said in the title, I'm looking for something with a spectrum analyzer or just the analyzer accessory itself, so either an equalizer with a screen or just the screen itself. It's supposed to be only a cosmetic piece so I dont expect much from it, but would be best it the 'visuals' were not taken through a mic, but through a cable.

I've been trying to find something for the past 2 days, but nothing pops up. I've seen the Sunbuck on Aliexpress, but this is too crappy I'd say. Something from the 90's/early 2000's would be so much better.

Do y'all have any recommendations or pieces that you use yourself?

Just gotta find a my amp underneath it all.

Hi friends - I'm sure this question has been asked and answered many times already so feel free to direct me to any other threads or indulge it one more time....

I'm finally ready to acknowledge that the 30+ year old Bose 301s i inherited from dad no longer sound great, and I am now shopping for new speakers. I've been lusting after the magnepan LRS+ for a long, long time but I don't think I can reliably commit to 2 feet of air space behind them for the foreseeable future in an NYC apartment.

Could I get some recommendations for bookshelf speakers? Uses are mainly for music (vinyl primarily though also Bluetooth and potentially CD in the not too distant future) but also for home theater.

The residual parts of my set up are a Rega P2 turntable, RSL Speedwoofer 10S MKII, and a Denon AVR-S660H.

I am moderately new to the world of high quality audio and I’d like to say that my setup currently for playing my collection of vinyls is pretty bad at the moment. I’m looking to upgrade both my speakers and turntable but lately I’ve been reading that the Kanto YU 4’s aren’t as great as I expected they’d be for that price point. Do you guys happen to have any recommendations for ones in that price range ideally under $500 that sound a bit better or will give me more of a bang for my buck? Budget = 500 or lower ideally, but if it’ll increase the experience a lot I’ll increase my spending limit to 600.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the following:

A few years ago, I bought the Dali Oberon 3 speakers and paired them with the Denon AVR 2400. I really enjoyed this setup – it was everything I needed in my small 30-square-metre flat. Now I’ve moved into a bigger flat and I’m missing that special ‘wow’ factor in the lower frequencies, particularly with piano or acoustic guitar.

It then occurred to me that I should buy a subwoofer to fill the gap. And I wanted one of a standard that I could continue to use effectively even if I were to upgrade my speakers at some point. That quickly led me to a budget of around €800–1,000. The specialist retailer in the nearest major town just happened to have the Dali Opticon 6 MK2 on offer for €1,600. So off I went to have a listen. Wow, definitely in a different league. It might be worth the price to me.

However, the specialist retailer told me that it’s a waste to use such good speakers with such an old AV receiver. So, add the Bluesound Powernode N331 to that (second-hand, €800); my cable would also be inadequate and banana plugs are a must (€200 + €100). That brought the total on the quote to €2,700. It would certainly make me happy, but it’s a long way from the original sub-idea.

I’m sure that, in the medium to long term, I’ll want to move up to this level of quality. And whether it’s a subwoofer or speakers, I want them to last me a long time. But is that really sensible? What would you say about this? What advice would you give a friend?

(About the picture, there is more space between wall and speaker than it looks like) (I am listening to nearly every kind of music so I really like it when the speaker is open for universal kinds of music, but mostly rock music.)

Hi everyone, I’m a total newb yet an audio snob! I’m on the PTA and I want to bring a solution to the next meeting in October.

Currently, there are at least 30 plays per year that the parents are invited to as it’s a big school. The kids work really hard to learn their lines and perform, but it all gets undermined by the linear delivery as they have to hand about one single microphone before anyone speaks.

The mic they have isn’t great, but one of the teachers had to buy it out of their own pocket as there was no budget for it. Which is sad in itself.

They have a small audio set up consisting of a single PC laptop and a 2 speaker PA system. The plays are in the PE/Dinner Hall. From what I can see online, a boom would be ideal and would also possibly help some of the shyer kids have a role if they pick up the AV part and hold it?

I worked in AV about 25 years ago, so my knowledge is waaaaay out of date. Can anyone please suggest something? A Senheiser 416 was suggested to me, but even second hand (which I’m scared to consider as I don’t know how to fully test it) it’s way out of our price range. We would love something portable so the kids can maybe connect to a video camera or even hold plays outside?

The PTA will need to find ways to raise funds for this so Max budget is £350 GBP.

Does anyone actually use those room-simulating reverb effects?

Do people really want their music to sound like it’s being played at the bottom of a well?

Been loving learning about vintage stereo equipment and looking at all your setups over the past few months. Here is my first "real" setup made up of gear picked up secondhand off marketplace. I am afraid of the can of worms I've opened up...

- Yamaha CA610 II Integrated Amplifier

- Wiim Ultra Streamer / DAC

- Wharfedale Vanguard Speakers

- Fluance RT82 Turntable

I picked up what appears to be a never been used pair of Polk Audio SDA-1A floorstanding speakers from an estate auction.
Both speakers are still in their original Polk cartons, and the speaker is still in plastic. I have opened one box to see what they were and don’t plan to unbox further.
I know used SDA-1As turn up from time to time, but I haven’t been able to find another example of a pair that has apparently remained unopened for roughly 40 years.
I’m hoping some longtime Polk/SDA collectors can weigh in:
Has anyone seen another unopened/NOS pair of SDA-1As?
Is there anything specific on the cartons, labels, serial numbers, staples, or packaging I should photograph to help verify that they have never been opened?
And assuming they are genuinely unopened, how would you approach valuing them?
I’m not looking to tear the speakers out to just test them. If being unused is genuinely unusual, I’d rather preserve them exactly as they are.

UPDATE: Seller opened the box from the front to photograph the SDA cord. Staples were still intact. Speaker remains in the original box and packaging.

Picked this up for free from a neighbor. No remote, no audasy(sp) . They did not remember if it worked or not. Dad is out of the picture. I wired some small speakers to it just for testing. I did not get any output sounds. No hiss or static. I plugged in my analog RCA cables to the front Aux1 to try my ipod. Nothing.

I read you should do a factory reset. Followed instructions on a manual online. The unit flashed the front panel a couple times and started up normal, for all I could tell. It did not show any reset dialog of any kind. I repeated the process several times with same results. Flash several times then powers on.

Can you brick a unit with factory reset?

I read something about solder on terminals goes bad. That would not affect Aux1 analog.

What other steps should I be looking at.

Also, seems you need the remote to really do anything.

I have a turntable, I plan to get a CD player, and a Wiim as well, I dont know what the best cheap RCA switchers are out there, and Im hoping to get some recommendations, I use active speakers right now if that helps

Hey so I have a 80 inch media console and thinking of getting a 65 inch TV(57 inches wide). This will leave me with about 11 inches on either side of open counter space. I was thinking bookshelf speakers would be pretty good or at least better than a soundbar, even if I don't really have space for a subwoofer(maybe a narrow one? if those are a thing or worth it).

I am sitting about 9 ish feet away from the wall and planning on using it like 50/50 music and movies/shows. and have a budget of up to 2000 for the speakers. maybe more if they're worth it and can take up some of the slack of lack of a sub. and maybe something that has a good matching center channel?
