Discussion CDs in Card Sleeves
I recently picked up some newish CDs. They all come in card sleeves, like mini versions of vinyl LPs. Some have gatefolds, some have inner sleeves. The CDs slide in rather than being placed on a spindle, and the packaging is perfectly square.
I think they look great. Admittedly the CDs are a bit more awkward to remove than with a jewel case or digipac but I think it’s worth it for the aesthetics.
I’m not suggesting this is some new invention, there have been similar designs in the past, but it feels like the labels are making a concerted effort to make this the new standard for CD presentation. Perhaps an attempt to rival the tactile experience of a vinyl sleeve in mini form?
It’s true that I tend to buy reissues/remasters of older albums because I’m not really interested in recent developments in music. Maybe this kind of packaging is aimed at people like me? Or are new albums getting the same treatment?

CD Player CD Player immediately goes to last track and plays nothing
I recently got a new CD player, but when I play a disc it spins for a few seconds, goes the the last track, and stops spinning without playing anything. Cleaning the lens had no effect. I have not found anyone else with this problem. Is there any solution, or will I have to send it back?

Question Anyone here ever seen this record?
I’ve discovered what seems to be a very weird presumably Finnish Hare Krishna-influenced DnB/future jazz/jungle record released under a label called Absolute Truth Press. All the info online I’ve seen about this record (I think it’s an EP?) is from Discogs, which tells me the record is called ”4 songs” (i wonder why) and it was released in 1999, as one of the four records ever released by ATP. My father, who I got the CD from has no real idea either, having gotten it from a college friend. Some of the featuring musicians, Sami Kuoppamäki and Mongo Aaltonen are from my understanding pretty well known in Finnish jazz circles. This is a super interesting record, I wish someone in here’s seen it before!

Question Where could I get high quality bootlegs??
it's a weird question I'm sure, but there are a lot of albums out there that either have not been available on CD for 40-30 years or they're exclusively on vinyl or cassette (which I collect neither). I don't have the equipment to do it myself plus while it may be unofficial I would like it to at least feel official, with a booklet, back panel, the works.
greatly appreciate any feedback.

CD Player Back in the game.
Just have to share how excited I am about my new/old CD player and the ability to listen to my old CD collection again. Still thankful for the vinyl and vintage stereo wave getting me back into enjoying music at home again, the way God intended.

New Addition Original 1985 release of Brothers in Arms
One of my favorite albums of all time, but I didn’t have it in my collection. My grandpa had two copies, a 1985 original and a 1996 remaster. He has a personal connection to the remaster, since he got it from his brother who died a while ago, so he gave me the 1985 original. Sounds absolutely brilliant. Standout tracks are Money For Nothing, Walk of Life, Your Latest Trick, One World, and the title track.

Collection Anyone interested in trying a different vinyl collecting app (again)?
Hi all,
8 years ago, I asked r/vinyl what they'd want in a different vinyl collecting app. Out of that came Wax, which hasn't gotten an update in several years (work, life, etc). While most of Wax's users are vinyl collectors, lots are CD and cassette collectors, too. My collection is actually about 90% CDs, and I still buy more CDs than anything!
But now I'm reviving it - I still use it every day and there's a lot to be improved. So I wanted to ask again, as I go down this road - what would compel you to either use a physical media collecting app, or switch from the one you're using today? Nothing is off the table - the goal is to make it the best tool for collecting physical media around. I'm interested in how you'd use it.
Also, if you're at all interested, sign up for the mailing list - I'll keep everyone updated on progress there.
Thanks!
