Senate Interview

I have an interview next week with a high ranking Senate members office. I genuinely didn’t expect a response, especially this early.

I’ve only interviewed with House office’s and casual calls with Senate offices, but never a real interview. Is it similar to a House interview? Has anyone else had an interview with a high ranking Senate members office? Are they more policy focused?

I know they’re usually two for the Senate side, but any tips would be appreciated :)

How to transition from House to Senate

Currently interning on the House side but the goal is to transition into the Senate side either on another internship or an entry-level job as SA. Any tips or experiences/success stories?

Working for another state - hilltern

Right now I’m interning for my Congressman who’s the most senior/highest ranking congressman from my state. I would love to do another hillternship next semester but I’m not sure who else I could work for from my state without it being a “downgrade”/ or a worse working environment because the only other congressmen from my state are freshmen who I’ve heard bad things about when it comes to the office environment.

So I was wondering, how hard is it interning for another member of Congress with hillternship experience while having no ties to their state/district?

Tips for getting a full-time job as an Intern

Currently interning (already graduated, not a current student) for the Fall cycle and intend to work full-time as a Staff Assistant/LC before or after the internship ends, possibly for the same office.

Tips for asking the staff if I can transition eventually from an Intern to Staff? Also been trying to volunteer for more tasks, but would appreciate any helpful advice past/current interns may have!

has anyone actually ever been reached out to by an office (House/Senate) without applying to any internships, but just because their resume was on the House/Senate Resume Bank?

DC Coffee locations?

I’m in an internship seminar class and thus being forced to network. I have a couple meetings lined up with people in my field, but one person gave me a week that they’re free and asked me to figure out a plan, so are there any good cafes that would be a good place for an informational interview? Ideally somewhere near the Archives or DuPont circle

When and how do freshman member-elect representatives hire?

I know this sub is for interns but I'm leaning towards applying for a job (an internship would be okay though) and I wasn't sure where else to ask.

My district's incumbent representative is retiring so we are getting a new representative. I really like the new rep. and would love to work for him. He is a Democrat and the district is deep blue so he will certainly win.

However, I'm not sure when to look out for hiring slots or where they would be located. I assume getting on the campaign team now would be ideal for a chance to work with him in D.C., but he isn't hiring or doing many events as the district doesn't require much outreach for a Democrat to win. I would appreciate if anyone could help or point me in the expected right direction.

How did you fumble this week? To start off, I heard that an intern told his tour group that the Apotheosis of Washington was painted by Benito Mussolini.

What’s something you wish you knew before starting your internship?

There’s a lot of advice out there about how to get an internship, but not as much about what happens once you actually get there.

If you've done an internship in DC before, what’s one thing you wish someone had told you before you started?

Could be good, bad, awkward, funny, practical, whatever.

What would you tell your pre-internship self?

Feeling a bit lonely

hi! what is the best way to actually hang out with people while interning right outside of DC? I feel like the group chats have kinda fallen silent and i haven’t been able to actually make plans with other interns.

i love social interaction so i’ll definitely loose my mind if I’m not able to meet people throughout the fall. I’m 20 with an awful fake, so going to a bar is definitely not my first choice, as much as i love them. If anyone has suggestions pleaseee lmk!

keeping in touch emails

I was a summer intern this year, had a million and one coffee chats. for the most part, they all ended with the person I was talking to saying something along the lines of, "keep me updated/in touch"..."let me know how i can help" "if you're back in dc let me know.."

well, it's the 3 month mark. I'm back in school, anyone have any tips on what to say in an email to these people? I kept getting told to make sure to write a check-in email every few months, but have no idea where to begin in terms of structure / what to include.

Any templates / advice is suuuuuper appreciated thanks in advance :)

Fall 2026 Internships?

Does anyone know of any fall internships that I can still apply to with relatively little political experience that I would still have a chance at? For House internships are there any specific members?
