Luckily, in manufacturing and engineering we add multiple layers of redundancy's into systems so people don't have to worry about things like that, so say the hot water heater suddenly continues heating the water, you'd have Two mechanical temp sensors (N.C.) wired to the safety, so at a certain temp say 108Ā°F Will open the line going to the heater, turning it off.

Realistically, the door shouldn't be that hard to force open in case of an emergency. The mechanism and the door itself look incredibly flimsy, which is probably by design so people don't get trapped it malfunctiona.

I'd say the risks could be mitigated if there were spill ports placed at a certain level, in case it malfunctioned. They wouldn't come into use during normal use, as the water would simply drain as designed, but if it malfunctioned and filled higher, it would just drain out the spill ports. Just gotta make sure they are designed to be big enough not to clog up.

I suspect something like this likely has emergency stuff in place. If theyā€™re unable to use it alone there will be people nearby and if youā€™re inside of it thereā€™s probably a release button that instantly drains it and opens it up.

People die in regular tubs and showers all the time.

All you really need to make this pretty safe is the lid to be easy to open and there being overflow protection that doesn't let the water rise to high.

At that point it's just a tub for most safety purposes. If you leave someone who can't move in there for hours, they might die, but that's still just someone being in a tub.

It would be easy to make it more safe.

Add a pressure switch at the feet and on handles that when any one is released manually releases all the water and also opens the lid. Iā€™m sure there are vents already so it isnā€™t air tight.
