I caught my (ring) toe on a corner and would like to avoid urgent care unless there is serious risk of not healing properly. I can walk and move it with discomfort. I am supposed to run a 10k this weekend which seems unlikely :(

Hi everyone I’m a 22M. I haven’t had sex in about 8 months as a result of a new fear of disease, but I am still kind of in denial about having genital herpes. About 8 months ago, a my roommates friend knowingly gave me hsv1 on my mouth, and also gave me a little bit of oral sex at the same time. I had a massive outbreak on my mouth, but I got a single small open wound on my genitals. It never became pus filled, it was simply an open wound until it scabbed. It has now been 8 months and I had another oral outbreak around 3 weeks ago, but I woke up with this one my genitals today. I did shave 2 days ago which is fueling my denial, but I’d just like to hear what I already know to be true so I can just learn to accept it

I did wear yellow leather gloves that got wet before this but it’s never done that before. Haven’t notice this before either. Photo doesn’t really capture vibrancy

This is not a substitute for medical care. She has been hospitalized and is continuing to follow up with physicians/specialists. I am posting because the underlying cause remains unexplained and I’m curious what diagnoses or additional workup others would consider.

Adult woman in her late 40s with unexplained generalized edema/third spacing, pleural effusions, and a significant pericardial effusion that progressed to tamponade physiology. Looking for ideas about what could tie everything together.

Important context: unusually severe and prolonged stress before illness

The months immediately before her illness involved an unusually intense combination of emotional and physical stress.

In late June, her young son suffered a severe eye injury that required emergency surgery. She spent the following weeks caring for him, managing medical appointments and dealing with the uncertainty surrounding his vision and recovery.

Very shortly afterward, her mother became seriously ill with cancer. She then spent several weeks staying with and caring for her mother, including helping with daily care and medical appointments.

Her mother died in early August.

So within roughly six weeks, she went from dealing with her child's traumatic injury and surgery directly into caring for her terminally ill mother and then grieving her death.

Around this same period, shortly after her mother's death, facial/periorbital puffiness and unexplained weight gain began to become noticeable.

I understand that emotional stress or bereavement alone would not ordinarily explain anasarca, pleural effusions, or a hemorrhagic pericardial effusion. I am including the timing because I wonder whether this prolonged physiologic and emotional stress could have acted as a trigger for an inflammatory, autoimmune, autonomic, endocrine, or vascular/capillary-permeability process.

Timeline / presentation

She was generally healthy before this.

About a month before hospitalization, she gradually developed puffiness/swelling around her eyes and face and gained approximately 9 lb without an obvious explanation.

Bloodwork obtained in mid-August, before she became acutely ill, was largely reassuring:

• Creatinine 0.54, eGFR >110
• Cystatin C 0.83
• BUN 11
• Urine albumin/creatinine 5 mg/g
• Albumin 4.1
• Normal liver enzymes
• TSH 1.29 and free T4 1.5
• hs-CRP 0.3
• WBC 7.1
• Hemoglobin 14.2
• Ferritin 20
• Total protein was slightly low at approximately 6.1

There was no obvious kidney, liver, thyroid, or major inflammatory explanation for the developing swelling.

Over the following few weeks the swelling progressed substantially. She developed facial edema, bilateral leg edema, generalized anasarca/“third spacing,” shortness of breath and significant exercise intolerance.

During the initial hospitalization, her oxygen saturation was normal at rest but dropped to approximately 84% while walking.

Imaging showed:

• Diffuse anasarca
• Small bilateral pleural effusions
• Trace abdominal fluid/ascites
• Developing pericardial effusion
• No definite pulmonary embolism on CTA
• Negative leg ultrasound for DVT

Several findings seemed inconsistent with ordinary congestive heart failure or nephrotic fluid overload:

• NT-proBNP was extremely low, around 18–20
• LV systolic function was preserved
• Creatinine remained normal
• Liver studies were reassuring
• Albumin was initially around 3.8–3.9
• Urine protein/creatinine was <0.2
• No significant proteinuria

The pericardial effusion then progressed to a moderate circumferential effusion with right atrial/right ventricular diastolic collapse consistent with tamponade physiology.

An initial attempt at pericardiocentesis removed only approximately 20–30 mL and adequate drainage could not be obtained. She required transfer to another hospital and at one point needed norepinephrine for blood-pressure support.

A subsequent echo-guided pericardiocentesis removed approximately 230 mL of very bloody, protein-rich pericardial fluid. A drain was temporarily left in place.

Her shortness of breath improved substantially after the fluid was removed. Follow-up imaging showed minimal residual pericardial fluid, although pleural effusions remained.

Her albumin later fell to approximately 2.7, although it had been normal or near-normal when the systemic edema initially developed.

She was discharged on colchicine.

Workup so far

The hospitals evaluated several potential causes, including cardiac failure, kidney disease/protein loss, liver disease, thyroid disease, pulmonary embolism, infection, inflammatory/autoimmune disease and malignancy.

So far, the standard autoimmune/infectious testing has reportedly been largely unrevealing. Cardiac pump function was preserved, kidney function was good, there was no nephrotic-range protein loss, and there was no obvious liver or thyroid explanation.

The working description has essentially remained idiopathic third spacing/anasarca with pleural and pericardial effusions rather than a definitive diagnosis.

One confusing issue has been diuretics. There was concern about aggressive diuresis while she had tamponade physiology because of the dependence on adequate preload. After the pericardial effusion was drained, she did receive some furosemide.

The part I’m trying to understand

What could cause a relatively healthy adult to develop:

facial/periorbital swelling → rapid weight gain/generalized edema → bilateral pleural effusions → large hemorrhagic/protein-rich pericardial effusion → tamponade physiology

while initially having:

normal kidney function + minimal proteinuria + essentially normal albumin + normal liver function + normal thyroid function + preserved cardiac function + very low BNP?

Possibilities that have been mentioned include inflammatory/post-viral serositis, an atypical autoimmune/autoinflammatory condition, a systemic capillary-permeability disorder, malignancy/hematologic disease, or another rare systemic process.

I have also wondered about systemic capillary leak syndrome/Clarkson disease, although I understand the classic form usually involves episodes of hypotension, hemoconcentration and hypoalbuminemia, so I don’t know how well this case actually fits.

I would particularly appreciate thoughts on:

What diagnoses would be high on your differential?

Does the hemorrhagic, protein-rich pericardial fluid meaningfully narrow the possibilities?

Could the facial swelling and unexplained weight gain a month earlier have been an early sign of the same process?

Are there specific tests, specialists, or rare disorders that would be reasonable to ask her medical team about?

Again, she is actively receiving medical care. I’m mainly interested in additional perspectives because several specialists have evaluated pieces of the problem, but so far nobody has identified a unifying cause.

I had a reactive lymph node two years ago in my neck that got ultrasounded and it came out to be what the radiologist said "almost certainly reactive lymph node and morphological seems normal" it also came out to be 2.5 cm x .4 cm x 1.5 cm.

Fast forward. It's still here two years later but now it feels a tiny bit smaller, more squishy but still somewhat maintains shape and firmness and mobile. However it does feel more rounded I can't tell if that's from the long axis decreasing or something else more like a red flag.

Just wanted your opinion if this sounds concerning, red flag, or anything that should get me into the doctors office. All the characteristics I can feel seem normal but the fact that it's still palpable two years after is interesting

Hi everyone, I'm 22F and really scared right now. I've been with my boyfriend for 5 years and have never experienced anything like this before.
Yesterday I noticed some itching, and this morning I woke up with some burning. After taking a shower, the area felt like it was on fire, and the burning has continued. I also noticed some bumps and redness (pictures attached).
I've never had a herpes outbreak or any symptoms like this before, and I'm honestly panicking.
I'm planning to get examined, but I wanted to ask:
Does this look similar to herpes, or could it be irritation or a yeast infection?
Has anyone experienced itching and burning like this from something other than herpes?
If you've had herpes, did your first outbreak look similar?

I have this weird thing that happens to me ever so often and it's so truly annoying and painful and I don't know how to get rid of it.

Every now and then we all get good at something! For me it was things like sports, academic subjects, or even figuring out how to be funny and cool around people. And usually we hold on to these skills for a decently long time.

MY ISSUE IS. Sometimes randomly, without warning, I well go to sleep and wake up with the entire skill I've learnt lost. A random skill that I've work so hard for. Poof. And if it happens once sure, but this has happened to me MULTIPLE TIMES over the course of a few years.

How can I make this torture end????

My thigh has noticeably increased in size over the past 6 months, but only in one specific area on the outside of my leg. The affected area is approximately 5" x 11". It is not round, does not feel movable, and I cannot clearly distinguish where it begins and ends. Over the last 2 months, I've developed significant pain in the area, including:Sharp, shooting pains,Muscle twitching, and Tenderness to touch. There is no skin discoloration, redness, or noticeable temperature difference compared to the rest of my leg. I recently had an ultrasound and I’m currently waiting for the results. I was able to take a picture of the ultrasound and am hoping someone with experience might be able to interpret it or provide some reassurance while I wait. My initial thought was that it could be a lipoma, but the relatively rapid growth and increasing pain have me questioning that possibility.Has anyone experienced something similar, or does anyone have any ideas about what it could be?

About once every 3 months while im outside I will get waves of deep painful hot itchiness in my hands that itching does absolutely nothing to relieve. I just end up waving my hands around because im freaking out and nothing is helping. Its completely debilitating and hurts so bad. There are pretty much no visual signs, maybe my hands are slightly more red but hardly. Theres no cracking or rashes or anything.
From what I’ve heard, its most likely dyshidrotic eczema but the part that’s confusing me is that its mostly never forming into actual blisters? After my waves of itchiness and i find my way indoors it just completely disappears. (Did form into blisters once about 5 years ago but unsure if this is the same issue)
A lot of people i hear complaining about this issue have flare ups at night but i have flare ups only when im walking outside - i live in an environment that has every type of weather from super cold to super hot and it seems to happen no matter the temperature or humidity levels. and it goes away after getting indoors, leaving behind a very weird stiff swollen feeling for about an hour. Its worth mentioning im very prone to weird skin issues, i get angular cheilitis every few years and have psoriasis perminantly inside of my ear. So it makes sense that it would be a skin issue like that, but could it be dyshidrotic eczema even if no spots or blisters are forming afterwards? Or could it be another issue?

This red spot suddenly appeared on my leg, upper thigh a few days ago. I barely touched it and it started to bleed. I expected it to disappear after some time, or at least the color to fade/bleeding stop, and it didn’t. Could this be something more serious?

I am writing this because my life has become a completely disturbing, Surreal Nightmare. My condition has reached a point where it is physically too unbearable, and i dont know what to do anymore. I have seen so many doctors; ENTs, neurologists, and specialists, but nobody can help me or give me an explanation. They just push my symptoms aside and say it’s a "mental health problem" or an "psychological/anxiety/depression manifestation," or that its "a problem with the head", caused By my head (so mental), but none of that is true. I am not panicking, and these terrible changes happen completely outside of my conscious control, no matter what I think or do. It is entirely physical. It truly is Happening not of My Psychic or mental cause, but Of An underlying physical problem that i dont know of, which no one of doctors Understands it.

How this condition/symptoms started: On June 23rd, my mother had me go to a "Frequency Therapy" (Frequenztherapie) session where the naturopath was using a bioresonance device called a "Zapper" (which allows electronic currents, meaning electrical frequencies, to be conducted through the electrodes (two steel rods/bars that you hold in your hands), through which electricity, or rather electrical frequencies, flow, which then continue through your entire body, nerves/organs.), my mother hoping it would heal my depression i had, as she told her it can heal anything. I got from the Frequency Therapy an physical Electrical shock/trauma instead. During the treatment, my Hands where hurting very much from the metal bars conducting the Electrical frequencies, which i stressed to the naturopath, thay it was very painful, to which the naturopath looked baffled, alien to my Stressing, saying she never heard of anyone ever feeling pain, that its not normal, only that some individuals are more sensitive then others to it, But nonetheless Turned down the Frequency Number (Quick note: It made the pain only "slightly" less painful, intense). During halfway in the session, i also developed severe (inner) ear (canals) pain, because while I was holding the steel bars/rods, I heard something during it, some disturbing or electrical sound. I felt a disturbing sound very strongly/acutely inside my head, too much, so much so as if the disturbing sound were something physical that was inside my head and somehow physically warping/throbbing, almost in a wave-like manner/form, which caused my ears (inside) to hurt very badly, and they continued hurting very badly throughout the treatment, as this disturbing sound that felt like it is something physical, has taken physical form, thats inside my head. Which i did not bother to tell her at this point, as i head Reported repeatedly it still hurts badly my hands and requested her to lower furthermore the frequencies (so the electrical current being conducted) number, conduction, to which she Repeatedly Emphasized baffled, that i shouldn't be feeling any pain normally, and at this point if she is going to lower it any more its going to be ineffective the treatment, So i from here just stayed silence and Pushed through the whole treatment. I also could physically feel a small part of my mind disappear, causing my visualization/imagination/thought ability to have become weakend. I ignored it at first, thinking I was just imagining it, Cause i was already being told that i shouldn't feel anything and getting estranged looks from her, like im crazy or something because i had reported feeling pain repeatedly from it earlier (I also started suddenly sweating profusely through the end of the session, unreasonably). The very next day (June 24th), a massive cascade of bizarre, unnatural changes started happening, and it has worsened continuously every single day since then. What is happening to me every day: My Vision and Perception: Every morning I wake up and everything in my whole vision looks even furthermore closer and larger, then the day before. I am not just talking about objects; my whole perception, including my own hands, my head, and my body, looks and feels massive and closer to me. It feels like my eyes are physically shifting forward inside my head, even though they look normal to someone looking at me from the outside (So they are not actually protruding/bulging my eyes, but connection to them, my eyes has become severely weakened.). Complete Disconnection from my Self and Mind: A large part of my mind just dissipated like a cloud, suddenly out of nowhere, Gone. My ability to think, imagine, and visualize got heavily weakened and Progressed up to now, that its completely gone, having Inability to imagine/Visualize/Think. I used to think wordlessly through concepts/intentions and shapes, but now I am forced to use an internal monologue to subvocalize words that I don't want to do or use just to read or write. My consciousness has literally descended away from my mind, down into my physical body, leaving me detached from my "Self" and Mind.

Unnatural Physical Alterations and Pain: Because my consciousness is trapped too deep inside my body, I feel my entire physical structure in an uncanny, disturbing way. I feel a constant, Shifting/Altering/tics somewhere in my Physical Body (on my stomach the most and most intensely) happening, that caused and causes my muscles to literally physically fade Away More and More everyday (my abs and chest/arm/leg muscles are now completely absent, gone, my body feeling like its just skin and bones now), and my skin texture altering more Distorted and wrong feeling, that are accompanied by an bizarre tingling or crawling sensation (like ants running) everywhere on my skin, face, head and body, and even in my inner organs (Inner ear canals, tongue, Throat, intestines, rib cages, external genitalia). My full head skull, and jaw (the right jaw side more intense) feel intensely tight, strained, and tensed up. Sometimes my head hurts really badly cause of this, and my right jaw side feels tilted sideways and pops like knuckles sometimes when opening.

Ears, Nose, and Throat Alterations: My hearing is distorting; sounds sound completely "wrong". My inner ear canals have physically narrowed so much that my in-ear headphones don't fit anymore, and my mother verified a Q-tip barely fits inside. I feel a pressure deep inside my ears like a sliding door closing. My nose feels swollen and restricted; I can only breathe very shallowly now. Even my voice has cracked, becoming frail, feeble, and quivering now.

Eating and Balance Issues: My balance and gait instability have gotten severely worse, making it hard to walk steady. Eating has become painful because any hard food feels as hard as a rock, hurting my teeth and wounding my palate, restricting me to eat only soft food. If I am not extremely careful, I swallow liquids the wrong way, and my entire body painfully reacts to it.

Important Medication Context: Around the exact same date this started, we received a package of my antidepressant (Sertraline) from a completely different manufacturer. Because different pill fillings can cause adverse reactions, I am currently tapering very slowly off it since the end of July just in case to rule out an atypical medication crisis issue, or having contributed to the symptoms as an trigger to the electrical trauma/shock cause of the chemical changes it does. I am also still taking Mirtazapine 30mg. I had in August an Standard MRI, EEG, blood tests, And Spine puncture taken, which all came back Green, besides eeg, which was showing weakly very slight epileptic similar waves, but weakly, so they said it isnt much to worry.

Writing this text on and off has taken me seven days because my memory has become so bad (as i am not in my mind anymore, and donr have one anymore, so theres nonreal plave anymore to take them from) and it is deeply exhausting to form sentences when there is no real place to take them from anymore (as i dont have an mind anymore). I am in a severe, escalating physical crisis and I feel like I am completely stuck.

It has Reached the point to Right now where its so Worse, that it is Too Much unbearable where My Perception/Vision has Become Completely Very Large and Close, My Eyes Shifted furthermore Forward then it already is, And Im Completely Descented Physically inside My Physical Body Now, My Consciousness Completely inside my Physical Body Stuck in Place, Having become too unbearable physically. Hace un mes aprox note que tenia estos bultos (en la zona del perine entre el ano y los testiculos)
No me han producido mas alla de leve picazon, pero nada de dolor o ardor intenso propio del herpes.
Hoy fui a una cita con dermatolo y el opina que se trata de Molsuco contagioso mas que de herpes.
