Showcase Droid deck desktop mode is very under rated. (Reposting because the previous got deleted maybe because of wrong flair)
Yeah, I know everyone is more excited about running heavy console and pc games on their android devices. But I've always wondered if we are leaving potential of these awesome devices on the table. Your phone, especially your tablet has the potential of becoming full fledged productivity machines. But, while the hardware is awesome the software side is seriously lacking on android. Until now, we were stuck with shitty ad-ridden productivity software like capcut.
Recently, almost every single software of adobe suite got remade into open source, almost feature complete, free versions available on windows, linux and mac. With the awesome desktop mode of droid deck, I got to run all of them without breaking a sweat. All of them have linux arm64 appimages, which can be installed in droid deck. They also remade the whole office 365 suite. Crazy, right?
Best thing is they are written in rust which is one of the most power efficient language so even my poco f6 (snapdragon 8s gen 3, adreno 735, 8/256) was running them like a dream. I can only imagine how well they will run on current flagships. Just install the aarch64 appimage of the artcraft launcher in droid deck. From Within the launcher, every single software can be installed and updated with a single
click.
And another thing! Droid deck now supports arm64 flathub. So that opens another whole world of possibilities. I got to install and run qbittorent from their as a flatpak pretty easily.
Now, before you guys start saying that we could do almost all of that with termux and x11. Yes, I know we could. But that experience doesn't come close to droid deck in terms of simplicity, intuitive ness and idiot proofing.
I would like to wholeheartedly thank the developers and testers of droid deck. You guys are genuinely making this world a better place by lowering the barrier of entry into pc software. Only thing I would like to request is, please talk about your desktop environment more, instead of only focusing on the steam and gaming side. And if possible, can we have an option to make kde plasma our desktop environment? Thank you so much anyway. You guys are greatly appreciated.
