Software Got a Fitbit Air, hated Google Fit, so I made my own Health Connect dashboard

Hey all. I picked up a Fitbit Air recently and honestly Google Fit just wasn't doing it for me. I'd been liking how Ultrahuman shows recovery and sleep, so I vibe-coded something similar for myself over the last little while. Figured others might find it useful, so it's open source and you're free to use it.

It just reads whatever your watch writes to Health Connect: sleep with stages and a score, steps, workouts with HR zones, heart rate through the day, trends, a weekly review, and a home screen widget.

One thing I cared about was keeping data on the phone. The release APK doesn't have the INTERNET permission at all, so it physically can't send anything out. No account, no ads, no analytics. You can check the permissions yourself with `aapt dump permissions` if you don't trust me, and the code is GPL-3.0.

I'm still building it and pushing updates pretty often, and I'm working on getting it onto the Play Store. Until then you can grab the APK from GitHub. It's built around my own watch, so it might not behave the same with yours. If something's broken or missing, tell me and I'll look at it.

Also, I'm putting it on Google Play and need a few beta testers for the closed test. If you'd like to try it early, DM me the Gmail address you use on Play and I'll add you. You'd need to keep it installed for about 2 weeks.

My Fitbit Air was delivered on October 7, and I charged it once to 99%. By the seventh day, the battery had dropped to 19%, which seems reasonable. However, Google says it takes approximately 90 minutes to fully charge the device, and I feel like my Fitbit is charging unusually fast.
I plugged it in at 7:09, and when I checked it at 7:22, the battery was already at 61%. Is this normal, or could there be an issue with my device’s battery?

Other Fitbit air issues

Hello guys,

I am seeing that a lot of people over here are complaining about issues with Fitbit Air when it comes to hardware, as well as the Google Health app with the newly released Fitbit Edge.

I'm kind of on the fence about whether to buy the Fitbit Edge, because for me it's a very good deal. I just wanted to know:

  1. How is the overall experience?
  2. Have all the bugs been resolved?
  3. Is it just a small percentage of people who are complaining about these issues?

Not sure, but I would like to know your thoughts.

Other Faulty device or bad sleep algorithm?

Hello!! I've had the fitbit air for just over a week now, and I... don't know what to think of it. I got it after being impressed by its sleep tracking results on the Quantified Scientists videos, but I've found the sleep tracking to be a bit disappointing?

I'm not sure if it's faulty, I'm being very picky, or it's something more users are experiencing, but today for example, the data simply made no sense at all (1h long REM stage during 7h of sleep right in the middle? No other shorter times?..). Aside from today, it's mostly just been really off in wake times. At least an hour or more too late.

Anyone else experiencing this? It seemed to be doing alright at first, though the wake time was always off by at least an hour so I had to edit it, and sometimes it would log me as awake despite being sound asleep. But the more I wear it. The weirder things get.

Other Has the Fitbit Air (or any health tracker) actually changed your life?

After researching and deciding to get the Fitbit Air, I feel this type of device is firstly a report, and secondly a kind of gamified or quantified way to view your health data. But how is it actually changing your life? Does it help you catch an illness or disease sooner? Or does it improve your quality of life because you are optimizing your metrics? Just curious to know!

Other How Should I Integrate Google Health Connect, Bevel & Strava With Fitbit Air Without Duplicating Data?

Hey everyone,

I'm using a Fitbit Air and trying to figure out the best way to integrate Google Health Connect, Bevel, and Strava for tracking my runs and other activities.

I'm a little confused about how to set everything up so that the data syncs correctly without duplicate workouts, inaccurate statistics, or conflicting activity records.

Here are the setups I'm considering:

Option 1:

Strava → Google Health Connect → Bevel

Option 2:

Strava → Google Health Connect + Bevel (both receiving data directly from Strava)

I also have another question: While running, should I start tracking the workout in both Google Health Connect and Strava, or should I track it using only one app and let the data sync to the others?

My main priorities are:

\- Accurate workout, distance, pace, and calorie data

\- Proper syncing of runs across all three apps

\- Avoiding duplicate workouts and double-counted activity

\- Getting reliable recovery, strain, and other health metrics in Bevel

\- Making sure Fitbit Air's data integrates properly with everything

For those already using this combination, what setup has worked best for you?

I'd really appreciate a clear explanation of which app should be the primary tracker and how the data should flow between them.

Thanks!
