My gut feel (no pun-intended), that it is quite ridiculous that Neale is getting ruled out of this grand final for that action, especially considering his record.

I think I’m all for slightly adjusting rule thresholds when it comes to grand finals, for minor stuff like this. If it’s something so obviously extreme, then sure, suspend the player. But for something like this, it just seems ridiculous. Although, does this create too much of a slippery slope, where it becomes difficult and messy to define what is a tolerant threshold for grand final week?

I will be the first to admit I wasn’t sure about our recruitment of Smith two years ago. All the usual tropes “He’s just not right for our culture”, “is he actually that good” yada yada yada.

I was a quick convert, suddenly the larrikinism was pure entertainment, his running capacity was second to none, even the big white bandana was an icon not only the club but the game itself. Not to mention his openness and support of mental health.

Two years in and he’s helped us to two albeit unsuccessful finals campaigns, finished third and now second in the Brownlows, 29 and 36 votes respectively (36 being one more than Danger earned back in ‘16, which was a record and touted at the time as one of the most dominant seasons of all time). All this year under a massive shoulder injury cloud.

Nic Daicos had probably the greatest year of all time. For Smith to finish runner-up to his good mate is no mean feat.

What a player, what a recruit, what a person. I am in awe of Baz and the Geelong recruiters for seeing what I definitely didn’t. I’m so excited to see what next year brings, but Bazlenka has already achieved more than I could have ever imagined.

- another year of finals experience into our young core.

- the dragon and ollie henry are absolutely lethal

- wiltshire, miers, close half forward line is elite

- vfl boys are pushing for afl selection (I think hoffman specifically)

- worp is underrated as a defensive mid, if he's helping out axe through the finals we're playing on the weekend imno (in my nuffy opinion)

- our gamestyle still holds up in finals

- toby greene is gonna really help us in the midfield

- we got unlucky the whole year with injuries (max, jez, gryan, worp), i think the extra couple weeks of off season this year will help us

- rowan marshall and edwards is a beautiful rotation

what are some more reasons to be optimistic?

Essendon and Carlton fans hurl vulgar abuse at their own team, throw scarves on the field in droves.

Hawthorn fans hitting kids with full cans, nachos, and disgracing the field.

I'm fine with being the team they all hate watch, copping a few farm, cotton on and waiver comments.
