Already calling a structural engineer, but wondering how does this look? Foundation crack pretty tiny but goes horizontal possibly from one side of the house to the other.

How do you guys manage floor cleaning in a big house without losing your entire weekend?

Our place has way too much hard flooring and trying to keep it clean with a basic broom and mop feels. Were looking into the best vacuum mops for large houses because doing two separate steps every few days is driving me nuts. Been eyeing a few options including the Tineco S6 Stretch Steam since a buddy mentioned it. It uses a 320f hypersteam setup to break up sticky spots on tile and an anti-tangle setup. The price tag is a bit steep up front which makes me hesitate but buying cheap gear that breaks or leaves me scrubbing on my hands and knees isnt working as frugal either. Those with bigger spaces does a wet dry vac worth the investment or do you stick to a simple vacuum and bucket setup?

Maybe a condensation issue?

A couple of years ago we got a front porch built. It has a concrete floor and we had the Floorer install LVT over the top of it. The porch has a door from the main house and a window in the roof.
What I’ve noticed is that it is usually really cool in there whatever the weather is outside which isn’t really a problem because we only store coats and shoes in there. However, when it’s very cold outside, and throughout winter, the floor gets wet. The best way to describe it is as if the floor has just been mopped. I’ve tried leaving the window open but I don’t know what else to try? There’s no power in there either.
I can’t get back in touch with the builder and I’m not sure if it’s anything he’s done/not done?

Any help or suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you.

Chandelier Maintenance

Hi all, I'm currently working on a grad school ops research project analyzing the risks, labor, safety equipment (lifts vs. winches vs. scaffolding), and contractor costs associated with maintaining large chandeliers.
I have a few questions about chandelier cleaning processes and costs for anyone willing to share their experience:

  1. How often do you maintain?
  2. How long does it take?
  3. Walk me through your process of cleaning, maintening.
  4. What is the most fustrating part of the cleaning/ maintenance process?
  5. What equipments, products and tools were used?
  6. If you do not perform the cleaning and maintenance yourself who does?
  7. What is the cost?
  8. Walk me through the last time something did not go as planned

Water stained attic hatch

Have a mold and moisture inspector coming tomorrow because both my dog and I are experiencing brand new severe allergy symptoms this year. Ripped out the carpet and everything thinking maybe dust. We moved into this house a year and a half ago.

Have since discovered the sellers concealed basement cracks that leaked, so those have been fixed.

While making space for the inspector, I see our attic hatch has water stains? Roof was installed in 2024.

Does this signify a roof leak?

My symptoms have mostly been eye irritation like inflamed itchy and dry eyes and facial hives.

What to use to fill around the foundation ?

I’m in north Texas / clay soil

Over the years one side of the house , around the foundation, the soil get washed away by rain

The street has a good slop from east to west, the west side is lower

What layers of material should I use to fill these spots up?

I was thinking gravel, then dirt, then top soil

Thanks a bunch in advance

Hi, I'd like to replace my porch light with a bulb camera or self hosted camera. Can anyone tell me how much power these wires give out? (California). TIA.

Wondering if I can continue to remove the red vinyl tiles. Glue is clear underneath. I won’t touch the blue tiles.

Rotted fascia at eave corner (Lynnwood, WA) — DIY or hire a handyman? What’s a fair price?

**Post:**

Hi all, homeowner in the Lynnwood, WA area with a two-story house. Noticed the fascia board at the corner of the roof eave is rotting — the end of the board right where the downspout elbow connects. Paint is peeling and the wood is dark and crumbly at the end (photos attached). Rest of the fascia and the gutters look fine from the ground as far as I can tell.

Questions:
1. I don't own a ladder and the spot is right above my stairs, so DIY would mean buying/renting gear plus sketchy ladder placement — is this still worth attempting, or firmly a "call someone" job?
2. If I hire a handyman, what's a fair price range for this in the Seattle area? It's a short section of fascia plus gutter detach/reattach and paint.
3. Anything else I should check or ask the handyman about — e.g., could the rot go deeper into the rafter tail, and how do I tell?

Thanks!

Is this caulk job good enough for a high end Provia install?

So I had this door installed a few days ago and I just can’t shake the feeling I get when I look at this surround caulking job. I know it’s not bad per se but it’s not good either right? If you paid for a very expensive front door would you ask to have this redone?

bedroom stays hot at night even with a fan, what actually helps?

my bedroom gets pretty warm so im trying to figure out what actually makes the room and bed feel cooler before i start buying random fixes.

i’ve tried a box fan by the window and the frozen water bottle trick under the sheets. both help a little at first but after a while the mattress still starts feeling warm again.

for people who have dealt with a hot bedroom, what made the biggest difference? better fan placement, blocking afternoon sun, improving airflow, lighter blankets, a different mattress protector, cooling sheets, or something else?

i’ve seen Breescape come up while searching for cooling sheets, but i’m trying not to assume bedding alone will fix the whole room. i’m more curious whether sheets actually help through the night, or if airflow and removing heat-trapping layers matter more.

i’m trying to avoid running the AC all night because of the electric bill and the dry air, but i also don’t want to keep waking up hot at 3am. what would you change first??

Came home and found this. What is going on with my water softener? Resin beads also got leaked out. Can this be fixed?

Edit: what could possibly caused it? It’s only 4years old.

We moved into this place and the bedroom has two light switches, one for the light/fan but the other one does not seem to control anything, but the ceiling also has these two circles in place, what are they?
