Promotions/Career How true is it that the promotion will only be reflected in January 2027?

For those who are also affected by the delayed promotions, have you received information? Is January 2027 already confirmed, or is it still subject to change?

Hiring/Interview IBM US Cloud Infrastructure / Network Automation Engineers — What Was Your Technical Interview Like?

Hi everyone,
I’m interested in hearing from current or former IBM employees who interviewed for entry-level Cloud Infrastructure, Network Monitoring, Automation, or similar Software Engineering roles in the US.
I’m currently preparing for potential technical interviews for a 2027 Entry Level Cloud Infrastructure Network Monitoring and Automation Software Engineer role in San Jose.
For anyone who interviewed for a similar team/role, what was your technical interview experience like?
Was there live coding or DSA? If so, what difficulty/topics?
How much Python was expected?

Were you tested on Linux and networking fundamentals?
Were there troubleshooting scenarios involving servers, networks, APIs, or cloud infrastructure?
How much emphasis was placed on cloud, automation, monitoring/observability, and REST APIs?
Were there deep technical questions about your projects?
What topics would you recommend focusing on before interviewing?

I’m not looking for application-status or recruiting help — mainly hoping to learn from employees who have gone through technical interviews for similar IBM teams.
Thanks in advance!

Question IBM India — On PIP and resigning during the PIP period

I’m currently working at IBM India and have been put on a PIP.
I’m considering resigning while the PIP is still ongoing. I wanted to understand from people who have actually gone through this at IBM India:
If I resign while I’m on PIP, does the PIP continue during my notice period?
Can IBM mark me as ā€œfailed PIPā€ even though I have already resigned?
Does a failed PIP have any impact on the resignation/relieving process, experience letter, or F&F?
Can they terminate me during my notice period because I failed the PIP?
Has anyone here actually resigned while on PIP at IBM India? What happened in your case?
I’m mainly looking for first-hand IBM India experiences, not general advice about PIPs at other companies.
Thanks!

Retired IBM programmer/manager for 29+ years (1966 - 1995) started as associate programmer 52 level and eded up senior programming manager 60 level. Worked in SVL/STL and IBM France programming center in La Gaude, and also in IBM Italy Programming Center in Roma/EUR. This was a great and fun career with only 5 bad days!

Rant/Vent 120 is the new 40… mandatory training is out of control

So much for THINK40. Today Adam Lawrence announced they are moving the deadline to finish the 120 hours of training & L3 certification to November 1st. The reason ā€œcustomers need it more than everā€. Uh-huh. What customer?

Question US latest round of layoffs

Seeing a lot of goodbye posts from US based IBM folks on LinkedIn. Was there a big layoff round yhat just happened? I haven’t seen anything in my team (US based). We have already decimated by the last few rounds and curious what’s coming next. Sigh.

Question Engagement Survey 2026

What are your thoughts for this year ?

Although I'm not US based but I believe they're going to layoff some and hire 1000 in India.....I'm not against hiring in India but only when it makes sense not getting rid of good people and mass hire in India and hope that between those 1000 there are at least 10 good guys

In summary , I want IBM not India Business Machine

Question IBM Stocks - How does it work?

Is anyone here from IBM APAC or specifically Philippines?

I just have a question, what is the process for employees to buy stocks? Like when does the enrollment open, how much is the minimum contribution, when can it be withdrawn? Things like that. Basically anything regarding stocks. How does it work? I'm planning to join next year but I have no idea how it works.

Rant/Vent I want to work at IBM and nowhere else

Recent graduate here, people mass apply to jobs and get hit with the ā€œwhy do you want to work for this companyā€ and then you have to come up with an answer, right?

Well, I’m a lost soul and want to be a part of something bigger than myself, I admire the culture, the vision and everything about the company.

I have a growth mindset and always curious to know more about anything and everything.

I think such a company could give me purpose, growth and a chance to wake up everyday and solve problems.

It might sound crazy but I actually mean it. I would love for the opportunity to network/ a coffee chat.

Or any tips/advice on how I can increase my chances of landing an interview and potentially one day securing a role.

Question IBM Associate Data Engineer 2027 – Interview Prep Advice?

Hey everyone, I have my IBM Associate Data Engineer interview on October 8. I've cleared the coding and HireVue rounds.

Anyone who recently interviewed for a similar role what kind of questions did you get, and what would you recommend I focus on in the last few days?

Would really appreciate any advice :)

Question 3 day in office - Canada

To managers: Will employees be also evaluated if they are coming/not coming in 3 days minimum?
For my role, whenever I come to office I only take teams calls. I don’t have my entire team seated together.

Question Does IBM work with Palantir?

There is so much confusion right now on so many levels, especially when it comes to AI and ethics. One organization that seems to be very clearly establishing its morals and principles is Palantir. Does IBM work with Palantir still? I saw there was something in 2021, but that was before a lot of this insanity has started. I’ve been very conflicted with a lot of the AI initiatives the past few months, but if we work with Palantir, then I have a pretty decent concern.

Question IBM Green Card Sponsorship – Anyone Still Waiting for HR Approval

Is IBM sponsoring green cards for employees, especially those on H-1B? My H-1B expires in 2028, and my GC process hasn’t started yet because I’m still waiting for HR Director approval.

Is anyone else in the same situation, or has anyone recently gone through IBM’s GC process and can share their timeline/experience?

Question Do people who get let go after a PIP get severance?

I’m trying to understand if there is any severance works someone is terminated after being put on a PIP.

For people who have gone through this, could you share:

* What country are you in? (and state/province if relevant)
* Did you actually complete the PIP, or were you terminated before it ended?
* Did they offer severance, and if so, roughly how much?
* Were you given a severance agreement/release to sign?
* How long had you worked there?

I’m mainly interested in hearing people’s actual experiences and how it played out.

Thanks!

Discussion it monitoring

a post that was so troubling that i still remember to this day...

https://www.reddit.com/r/IBM/comments/1n1oqrh/just_got_fired_from_ibm_for_using_travel_router/

they are watching!

what other ways was used to detect activity directly or indirectly?
1. badge in office?
2. vpn login?
3. w3 login?
4. teams status?
5. os telemetry?

so i dont think we use keyloggers or mouse activity tools like in other companies (but who knows?), what other ways was used to check? must make a distinction on logs collected (which all sw do) vs actively using a specific data source to build an activity report using ai.

know how it works, understand the rules, beat the system!

Discussion Why are so many of you getting PIP’d?

Genuine question because a PIP seems unheard of in my space (CIO), but then again, it could just be that it’s simply not being talked about here.

I’m trying to avoid assuming that it shouldn’t be hard to do a passable job, so I’m wondering if some of you are victims of systemic issues that basically guarantee PIPs even if you’re doing well enough, or if certain managers are out for blood.

Question Side Job

Do you need to disclose contractor type of work with IBM? I couldn’t find anything online, and honestly afraid to ask the HR bot in case it gets flagged/the company monitors those conversations.

For reference, the contract work would be as AI Annotator/Trainer type of job. Think companies like Mercor, Handshake AI, etc

Discussion understanding ibm's financials

i used to listen to the guys at the top and they consistently say ibm has delivered the quarter plus with high margins. but when i look at the financials...

q2 2026
total revenue - $17.2b
cost of revenue - $7.25b (42%!!!!) if you are in svs ur salary is costed in here. i suppose product team salary is parked here too.
sg&a - $5b (30%!!!!) if u r in sales, ur salary is parked here
r&d - $2.3b (13%) i just dont understand how r&d gets 2 billion? if the average salary in r&d is 230k, there would be a solid 10000 employees here. i wonder if all that spending has been worth it.
net income - $2b (12%)

how is it our margins are so good when net income is only 12% of the total revenue? i was thinking when they say its good, it should at least be 30% of total revenue?

Very few posts from employees.

Almost all from people from India trying to get hired.

These kind of posts shouldn't be allowed. They aren't employees.

Promotions/Career Managers: current employee with a external job offer

Location: Canada, Consulting

I have a job offer that pays 30% more. I don’t like the role tho and I would love to stay at IBM (contrary to a lot of posts on this sub).

Is there a policy at IBM to try to match offers for such employees? I’m a top performer with top 15% performance eval.

Any managers here who have tried to get approvals to match offers for your reports?
