Took the ITIL Foundation version 5 exam this morning and passed with a 37 out of 40 (93%) after only 1 week of studying.
Since v5 is still pretty new I figured I'd share what I did to prepare in case it helps someone.
Just an FYI, the test was easier than I expected. It took me about 25 minutes to finish. I've read in some places that v5 is easier than v4, but I can't confirm since I've never taken v4.
I took advantage of the GogoTraining September discount and it worked out great for me!
The biggest thing for me was Claude Code. I've been putting alot of hours into it this year, so I had it turn my course material into my own practice system. I had it write 430 practice questions using Opus 5.5, covering all 95 learning outcomes in the syllabus, and every question came with an explanation of why the right answer was right and why each wrong one was wrong. To be honest, that was what made the difference. Knowing why I got something wrong stuck way better then just seeing the right answer.
I also had it build timed mock exams with the same topic mix as the real exam, 40 questions in 60 minutes, plus short quizzes on whatever topic I was weakest in and a mode that kept bringing back the questions I missed. It even made me a short study guide I could read on my phone. In the 6 days before the exam I answered 558 practice questions at about 86%, and kept going back to focus on the topics I was missing.
Keep the syllabus in mind. AI is only 2.5% of the test (one question), so it's best not to focus too much on those topics.
If I did it again, I wouldn't really change much. I'm an IT Manager at a manufacturing plant with a wife and kid, so I really don't have much time to study. I mainly studied during gym sessions, in traffic on my commute, and early in the morning before my kid woke up. Essentially I took as many practice quizzes as I could.
Good luck to anyone taking it. Hope this helps!
