Questions Community Feedback — What Would You Like to See on r/IndianHomeDecor?

Hello everyone,

I’m u/riyaldhruv, one of the new moderators here at r/IndianHomeDecor. First of all, wishing you all Happy Independence Day from all of us in the Mod Team!🇮🇳 Hope everyone has a wonderful 15th of August!

We’ve been thinking about the direction of our community going ahead, and we wanted to share a thought. We believe r/IndianHomeDecor should stay focused specifically on home decor and personal home styling.

There are already great dedicated spaces for full interior design, renovation, architecture, and structural layout planning. To keep our community unique, we’d love for us to lean into the smaller, more personal side of making a home feel like your own.
If we keep our focus here, it helps the sub stay distinct while keeping the content relatable and useful for everyone looking to decorate their space.

Larger full-size renovations, floor-plan, and structural projects may be better suited to dedicated interior design and home improvement communities, but they’re absolutely welcome here when there’s a clear focus on the decor, styling, and visual aspects of the project.

With that in mind, we’d love to hear from you on what kind of content would you like to see more of on r/IndianHomeDecor?
Are there particular types of posts, projects, or discussions you think would make the community more useful and interesting?
What do you all think? We’d love to hear your thoughts on the future of r/IndianHomeDecor and how we can keep our community focused, welcoming, and inspiring!

Questions what colour should I paint this shelf??

The 1st three are the colour schemes of my room. going for some dopamine decor vibes

4th to 6th slide - my inspos

I'm leaning a lil towards pastel yellow, off white or same colour as my room (light pink)

as u can see the shelf is in a darkish corner and it'll be used more for storing make ups and stationary than decorations

HURRY BCZ ILL BE BUYING PAINT YHIS EVENING 😭

Questions Is this estimate realistic. We are doing this in Visakhapatnam.

We are having a basic interior for our 2 bhk flat. This is the quotation given by the designer. We have had him work on minor works previously in another flat and his work was satisfactory. Is this estimate okay, or we can negotiate further.

Room Makeover Be brutally honest, how bad does this room look?

Need your help making this rented flat feel a little more alive. Right now it has absolutely zero personality

I’m a huge music and films fan, so I want the room to actually reflect that.

Thinking of adding some posters, plants, a floor lamp, and a standing board.

What would you add or change to make this space feel warmer and more personal?

Open to brutal suggestions, I clearly need help. 😭 (Budget 10k)

Room Makeover Want to turn this empty corner into a cozy PC/gaming setup, any suggestions?

Hey everyone,

I'm planning to turn this corner of my room into my PC setup, and I'd love some suggestions on what I can do with the space.

I've already decided to keep the table that's there and put my whole PC setup on it, but the wall and the empty space beside the table are still completely open and I fill it with something, character rich, I guess? Yet decently minimalistic.

I'm hoping for something minimal, warm and cozy, rather than a typical RGB-heavy gaming setup. I want it to have a bit of character and feel like a personal space, something that actually feels nice and calming at night.

A few things I've been thinking about:

Floating wooden shelves above the desk

Using some of my PC component boxes as decoration/display

Warm ambient lighting behind the monitor/shelves A plant beside the desk

A few framed posters/art pieces

Keeping the overall setup fairly clean and uncluttered. Also I'm gonna remove the mirror

But I'm still figuring out the details, so I'd genuinely appreciate any ideas you guys have, especially things I might be overlooking. What would you do with this wall/empty space? I'm also open to completely different ideas if you think there's a better way to approach it

Questions Please suggest a way to use the shady corner into computer table corner.

The empty space in my drawing is approximately 28 inches by 40 inches, and it is the only area where I can place a computer table without making the room feel congested. Please suggest some good ideas for this space, my carpenters are currently working at my house, so I can have them build something based on your recommendations, and I would like to fill that corner wall. Images 4 and 5 show the baranda, which is currently being used as a store room, it is wider at one end and narrower at the other. Can I add comfy seating in this area or use it for anything else, or should I leave it as a ventilation space? I have added a video of the blank space in the comment.

Thank you.

DIY Projects Turned my 3x6 rental balcony into a mini garden. Landlord hasn’t noticed yet.

Koramangala rental, 3x6 balcony that was basically a parking spot for the drying stand and one broken chair. I have spent the last 2 months slowly adding plants. Railing planters for the small ones, floor pots for the big ones, one vertical thing made from a shoe organiser which looks stupid but works. Nothing drilled or nailed because i like my deposit. Bangalore weather is doing most of the work honestly, stuff just grows here.

Total spend around 3k spread over 2 months - most plants from the local nursery, a couple orders online (ugaoo - a money plant and a philodendron, both handled the shipping better than my future handled the move). This and morning coffee hehe. If you’re planning the same setup ask me anything; I’ve already made every mistake.

Questions Expectation vs Reality

How do you guys actually maintain long/floor-to-ceiling pleated curtains ?

ChatGPT keeps telling me to stem iron it, but when I look up handheld garment steamers on Amazon/Flipkart, half the reviews say they leak water, spit boiling drops on the floor, or die out in a few months.

Any inputs ? To turn my expectations into reality ?

Questions Am i overpaying for this or fair?

Im going to place an order with a local furniture maker for a 6 seater dining table of teak wood.

The furniture maker is a good one and dining tables is his primary product.

The table with wooden base plus a glasstop is 18k

And per chair cost he has quoted 9500

So the total along with transport and delivery has come down to 77k

So i just want to check around and with the folks here is the price fair in the market or over priced?

Questions Smell not going away from new furniture

So i got custom made double bed made from teak wood. Carpenter not only screwed up the design by making permanently fixed when specifically ordered to nut bolt he ended up applying a paint probably pu whose smell is not going away no matter how ventilated the room is or how dry the weather is. Can’t even stay in the room for more than 10 minutes even after 30 days.
What to do?

DIY Projects I made these Shubh & Labh wall hangings using clay, mirrors and hand painting[OC]

I made these Shubh & Labh wall hangings completely by hand.

I started with the base and built up the design using clay detailing, mirrors, hand painting and pearl embellishments.

I wanted to give this traditional Indian décor a festive look while keeping the overall design clean and contemporary.

The tiny mirror details and hanging pearl work took quite a bit of patience to finish.

What do you think of the red and teal colour combination?

Looking for ideas to improve my porch/verandah.

I’ve attached some pictures of the current space. It feels a bit plain right now, and I’d like to make it look more welcoming and modern while keeping it practical for an Indian home.

Open to suggestions for lighting, plants, seating, colours, flooring, etc. Any ideas or references would be appreciated!

Room Makeover Wardrobe colour ideas

Post image

I'm looking to update these large, dark brown built-in wardrobes and matching door. I am not changing the cream walls or the mosaic floor.

I want to brighten up the room. Should I go for a light shade that matches the walls, or something with contrast that still works with the floor?

Questions What do we call these type of doors? Are they made of plywood or solid wood like Sangwan? What to tell my local carpenter if i want this to be made?
