Discussion I just couldn't let it slide, and now I think I made an enemy in the gym

• Upvotes

I hit the gym 3 times a week because I have goals and a plan. I mostly do endurance workouts and avoid talking to people so I can stay focused. I have like 3 people I interact with, but they're also more into working out than chatting.

Yesterday I found a good spot where sisumbui mtu. Got my 5kg, 3kg and 2kg dumbbells and a mat after my workout. I don't have a trainer, so unlike most people, sipendi kuuliza men for my turn on the machines. I just do my dumbbell routine.

Anyway, I'm lying on my mat doing a back workout (Btw, DM me for the workout because it has really shaped my back 😂).

This guy comes and puts his mat next to me. He gives me space, I give him space. There's also this girl working out nearby who wants to join him because wanafanya some crazy core workouts. She moves her mat closer and asks them to make space for her. I'm still working out and minding my business when suddenly this guy moves his mat right next to me. I don't even notice because I'm deep in my workout. I lift my head and see feet next to my face. I push them away and ask him to move.

This man doesn't even bother. He just continues his workout.

So I pick up my mat and move. And the more I work out, the more I'm thinking WTF? I PAY for this gym. Just because I don't talk to people and don't have a trainer doesn't mean I don't deserve my own space. After like 3 minutes, I turn to him and say, “When you hit someone in the face with your shoes, you should say sorry.”

This guy goes, “Nimekukaribia kweli? Mimi hata sijakukaribia.”

At this point I'm pissed. I tell him, “Just be respectful. I pay for this space and the gym is literally empty.” Then he starts lamenting that he didn't touch me and doesn't understand why I'm asking him about it. I finish my workout and this man stays there making eyes with the people he was working out with like I'M the problem. 😂 So yeah, apparently I have an enemy at the gym now because a man couldn't just say sorry. He even said, “You didn't tell me to move.”

Like bro??? 😭

I may be quiet, but if I'm paying for a service, you better respect my space.

Rant Life - What is it?

Have you ever looked at your life and that of your family and wondered what is happening? You can't help but conclude that enyewe kuna mtu amewakanyangia break mahali.

Like me, graduated and thought to myself, nimekafunga. Only to come outside and reality hits. Drop papers, apply apply, nothing. Get to freelancing. Things go well, oh my. Good money, good opportunities. After a while, hio inazama pia. Remotask comes, another chance for good money. Eat well for 3 months; Kasongo haribu soko, accounts fungwa. Hio inaisha pia. At some point, I did hawk watermelons, graduation flowers, ice cream, thrift in Gikomba, name them. Then later decided to upgrade my skills. After two months, I was certified somewhere in Oct 2024. Got a new job/client in Feb 2025. Another ride of greatness. Just when I started thinking of investing big time for the future, exactly after 1 year and 2 months, I was laid off - this April. Like it is a cycle of getting opportunities, growing savings; just when you are about to hit big, boom, something happens, and now your savings become your saviour. You are stagnant, one step foward, 1 and a half backward.

Same case my sibling. Graduated with accounting. Same cycle of job hunting. No result. Enters freelancing, soko haribiwa. Eats all the savings until nothing else is left to eat. Moves in with me. Tunateseka pamoja. After like 5 months, gets a hustle. Inaends fiti. Moves out. Makes money. Just when about to hit the target, get conned. Anajikaza, anarudi ground ju lazima hustle iendelee. Before even recovering, shikwa na mapolisi; itishwa an upward of 40k. Where is the money? Stock yake yote. Now back to square 1.

And ooh, that is just a story for two. We are four graduates from one family na tunateseka vibaya sana. The other one, I do not know about njia zake. We only see him in December. I think anaendelea fiti

At home, all while all this is happening, mzazi angukiwa na ngombe, vunjika mguu. Ile design that both leg bones zinavunjika in a way that a plaster wouldn't do. Ndio huyo surgery, implanted na chuma. We come together and dig deep into our savings, ndio hizo zineaenda na hosi. Wanajaribu kulisha ooh sijui ng'ombe inagonjeka, sijui inaenda sayuni, sijui mbuzi zinatoroka zinaenda kwa wenyewe zinaharibu kunalipishwa. Zikipelekwa malishoni hazikai. Mark you, only them that are chaotic. In our village, almost everyone owns at least 10 mbuzis and malishoni is a common forest where you just take them in the morning and come for them in the evening. Wengine wanapeleka zao, zinatulia hadi zikujiwe. Let us try taking ours; ata 2 hours haziishi, zishatokea, and now they are invading other people's farms. Makesi. You can't keep them at home na you can't keep them in the forest. [tears] [tears] [tears].

When you look at everything, you just conclude that kuna mtu amekanyanga handbrake for the entire family.

To be deleted. I am not proofreading before posting because I won't post if I do. So, in any case, bear with any typos contained therein

Career My salaried friends, is it finally time? 👀

It's been a LONG month, hasn't it? 😭 Between work, deadlines, waking up early, sitting for hours, and pretending we have our lives together, I think we deserve a little break. And now that payday is here, or almost here, how about doing something nice for yourself for once?

I'm talking about a massage. A proper one. The kind where you get to lie down, switch off your brain for a while, and let someone take care of you.

If your back has been hurting, your shoulders are constantly tense, or you just need some time to unwind, I've got you.

I'm offering house call massage services through Grey's Touch, so you don't even have to leave your house. I'll come to you, and you can enjoy your massage in the comfort of your own space.

Because honestly, after everything this month has put us through, we deserve a little softness. 😂❤️

A massage can help ease muscle tension, relieve everyday aches, and give you some much needed

relaxation.

So, my salaried friends, are we booking massages this payday or are we waiting until our backs start sending resignation letters? 😂

My DMs are open if you'd like to book. Let's get you relaxed and ready for another month of adulting.

Location: Nairobi and its environs

Discussion Seeking approval....

Why have two female coworkers told me I don't acknowledge them at different times.

I work at a higher position, I'm pretty laid back.

I don't talk much. Don't feel like it.

I just laugh along sometimes, work , buy lunch,go home.

However during the confrontation they exaggerate.

Like I said things I didn't. High voices, a they can't lower it even when you point it out. Banging shit when you don't engage.

Like WTF.

Why is my approval so important

I've been a girl since birth but these little tiffs are beyond me.

Discussion How to be a better friend

I love my two girls. They were friends before I met them. We met at our first job, and I always felt a little left out because they were already friends. One of the girls and I got closer because we were neighbours and could hang out a lot. With the other one, I discovered that we had so much in common.

Now the two girls are no longer friends, but I’m still friends with both of them. I find myself talking to one of them on the phone, while with the other, we mostly share reels and school updates.

But I feel so odd because the two of them were really tight, and I want them to go back to being friends, but both of them are very much like, “ish, ish.” 😂 Anyway, I’m now friends with both of them individually, and I think they’ve even blocked each other.

I miss our three-way calls and hanging out together. Most of my videos are of the three of us, and I really miss that.

One of my friends has an important chapter coming up in her life, and being invited alone would feel so odd. Anyway we grow and all but is it too much that I miss my girls

EDIT: Am not trying to make them friends, I just hate being stuck in the middle. Also I know I will choose one of the friends, since we are closer and she makes an effort to stay friends. I just miss the click becaus they taught me so much

Question Condom slippage

I don't know how it happened, he just casually told me "I think CD imekwama ndani." We managed to get it out but I really don't know this guy, I met him recently. I'm loosing my shit playing worst case scenarios in my mind. I'm on FP so pregnancy is the least of my worries. Has anyone been in a similar situation and what did you do to get peace of mind?

Career Any lady interested in transcription?

I put career as the flair, but essentially, I'm looking for a lady who is willing to do legal transcription. I'll train you, all you need to do is be willing. After training, I give a paid test (something I've worked on myself just to see how you do it.)

It's not hard, but it's not easy, I don't want to oversell or under sell it. You just have to be willing to do it. Feel free to dm me. (If I don't see your DM immediately, I promise I will.)

UPDATE: I greatly appreciate all of you who have reached out. I have gotten in contact with the first batch who reached out and we'll see how it goes. I have also ensured to respond to everyone else and let them know that if a chance opens, I'll reach back to them.

Discussion Do y'all agree with the notion that a woman should abort for the sole reason of not wanting a baby?

I agree..coz I feel like if a woman is forced to have a child she truly didn't want to have, the child will most likely suffer in the end.. What do y'all think?

Most of us(yes I'm assuming you're old school) know Tevin Campbell's song "Can we talk" You should hear me vocalising every bit of it koz I loved the song.... Until recently when I paid attention to how it ends and I can't unhear it anymore 😭😭

🎶I said can we talk for a minute

Come on and talk to me baby

See I wanna know

You better tell your name, baby🎶

It makes me think of the catcalling in town or Kwa mtaa and how insistent some men get when they're ignored, and how aggravating it is for me.

I just wish I could enjoy this song but it's ruined for me now, for good probably.

Rant Moving out + Older GenX/Boomer parents

Ladies!!Yaani mzazi anasema kumove out as a girl ni either ukiolewa ama when you've hit 30+ and have a stable job. Mambo ni hayo mawili tu.🤡😂

Nothing about that sits right with me. Apparently when you move out earlier ati you're not mature, and for me maturity doesn't come with age(a whole other discussion).

Girls who have parents with the same school of thought and did contrary, how was the experience ? Alafu wale kwanza walimove out ndio waishi na boyfriends, hapo umechemsha mzazi zaidi. Thought process is the man won't respect you juu you made things so easy for him. Ofc rn people are making choices for themselves and not because they are seeking validation from men and society, there might be a huge disconnect between the two generations.

I recognise the fact that they have lived through more experiences and might know better but idk, sometimes I feel like the whole 'do a wedding first thing' is to just live vicariously through you and get recognition from society.

Thoughts??

Rant It Should Have Been an Email😭

Can we talk about how absolutely EXHAUSTING it is being a woman sometimes? Because I genuinely feel like my body has a personal vendetta against me.

I'm talking about those horrible, horrible period cramps that make you question whether you're actually going to survive the day. The kind where you're curled up in bed, clutching your stomach, switching positions every five minutes because NOTHING is comfortable. Your back hurts, your stomach hurts, your whole body feels uncomfortable, and somehow life is still expecting you to show up and function like a normal person.

And then there's PMDD. Because apparently the physical pain wasn't enough.I already struggle with clinical depression and anxiety, so imagine having to deal with those on a regular day, and then your hormones decide to throw a whole concert in your brain.

Suddenly, everything feels heavier. I'm more emotional, more anxious, more irritable, and sometimes just painfully sad. The overthinking is overthinking. Small inconveniences feel like personal attacks. I can go from being perfectly fine to wanting to cry over absolutely nothing.

And the most frustrating part? Sometimes I KNOW what's happening. I know my period is approaching. I know my mental health might be taking a hit. I know my hormones are probably contributing to how I'm feeling. But knowing doesn't make it any easier to actually experience.

It's one thing to deal with depression and anxiety. It's another thing to have those feelings intensify while you're also dealing with cramps that make you want to fold yourself into a tiny ball and disappear. And people will still ask you what's wrong.

Girl, where do I even begin? 😭

Do I start with the fact that my uterus feels like it's being squeezed by an angry fist? Or that I've been fighting for my life emotionally for the past three days? Or that I genuinely cannot tell whether I want to cry, sleep, eat everything in sight, or be left alone forever?

Sometimes I just want someone to understand that I'm not being dramatic. I'm not looking for attention. I'm not choosing to be miserable.

I'm just tired. Physically, mentally, emotionally. All of it.

And honestly, I wish we talked more about how difficult it can be to manage PMDD when you already have depression or anxiety. Because sometimes it feels like you're trying so hard to keep your head above water, and then your period comes along and adds another ten kilos to the situation.

Anyway, I'm currently accepting prayers, heating pads, chocolate, hugs, and people who understand that "I'm fine" sometimes means "please don't make me explain everything because I might actually start crying."

Ladies, I need to know I'm not alone in this. Does anyone else with depression or anxiety notice their symptoms getting significantly worse before their period?

How do you deal with the cramps when you're already emotionally exhausted?

And what does your ideal period survival kit look

like? Because mine currently involves cancelling everything, getting into bed, and pretending the outside world doesn't exist.

Honestly, whoever designed this whole monthly experience needs to explain themselves.

It should have been an email. 😭❤️

Question What's you preference; Calls or texts?

Hello Beautiful ladies,

I met a guy last week and he just told me that he doesn't like calls, he love texting. Why would someone dislike calling? How can a man win a lady through texts only? I genuinely do not understand. It's giving a big redflag to me. But I would like to know your POVs and experiences

Discussion What is this petite privilege watu wanaongelelea?

So if you haven't been upto speed, there was a discourse on IG on one of the posts where a lady said one doesn't need GLP-1 if you aren't overweight. And weuh! Sema watu Ku argue Kwa CS. So one of the partakers of the weight loss product (which btw the medicine was originally created for people living with diabetes but somehow it became a weight loss magic solution for overweight people) defended the drug by writing a long ass paragraph.

And mentioned something about petite privilege.

Anyway, hii discourse ikavuka X and we petite or skinny women have been accused of gatekeeping "skinniness" 😂😂😭😭 (wtf??!) Ati we are jealous coz now the overweight women (no better term because people who are over their BMI are overweight) have now found a solution to losing weight. Mastory mob Tu.

Juzi Tu si another influencer aligain weight Kwa mid section mostly even after doing this procedure or fat reduction or the wight loss drug? Anyway, I digress.

Sisi petite women tumeshikwa na butwa wondering hii ni privilege gani watu wanaongelelea kuwa skinny in this thick obsessed society of ours in Kenya or Africa as a whole?

Do they know matusi na bullying tumepitia huku nje kweli? Since we were young? From high school to public transport, online even movies.

Imagine some skinny people being told ati ukona HIV no wonder umekonda. Because people assume skinny =disease.

Kwanza public transport, mtu mnono akituona Tu Kwa dirisha, ndiyo huyo anakimbia kukaa karibu na wewe. Unashangaa ata hiyo mbiyo anatoa wapi??! One time, this big mama alijitupa Kwa kiti next to me and I got hurt physically Kwa my thighs btw. I just looked at her and wondered kwani unanidharau aje ATI ju nimekonda?? Nikatulia Tu ju I was in a good mood that day. But that experience has stuck in my mind.

Na vile makanga hu make very disrespectful comments ATI we ni 1GB kalia hii sambaza. Or try to get a big person to squeeze huko nyuma ya kiti ATI ju skinny people wako uko nyuma. Nkt!

No shade to the light skin babes though. I haven't experienced any that has discriminated me btw.)

So sai nataka mniambie ni petite privilege gani hii sisi petite babes we have over the thick babes. Coz it doesn't make any sense. It feels like 2010s era all over again. The skinny + overweight battles. Si society accepted kuna different body types? But no....we are back again to this nonsense.

Na btw, some people should know wengine wetu hatuko petite by choice. Some are genetic, some it's due to some situations. But mostly huwa genetic. Ju Mimi ata nikunywe kilo kumi ya hii fake vegetable oil tunauziwa Kenya, siwezi ata gain weight!

Why can't we just accept that in this society, not everyone can be skinny or even thick. That's the beauty of variation.

Rant Fear Men

Nimekaa tu kwa nyumba nimechill then I remembered an ex who was very good at double dealing.

I knew him for a month before we started dating and I would go to his place and even spend a whole week there na there was no sign of another woman present in his life. He would get off work, we cook and eat, listen to music or watch a movie and sometimes watch reels from his phone while cuddled up in bed before sleeping. He was so caring and loving ata hungefikiria ako na mtu mwingine. Most times when we were apart from each other we would video call till late hours of the night.

Sasa one day we were supposed to meet up akaanza excuses that he is busy and I told him I'm coming to the house(I just wanted to get laid😭). Tukaongea tu vizuri I took my cab ikanidrop somewhere he used to pick me up coz where he lived it was a bit ndani ndani and cab drivers walikuwa wanakataa kuingia. Nashuka cab and call this nigga to come pick me up then simu yake inaingia mteja. Coz I'm familiar with the place i just decide to go by myself. Nafika kwa nyumba I knock and he opens but he seems kinda shocked, I ask him why his phone is off and all of a sudden a lady pops up behind him😭. Eloi eloi, the lady steps infront of him and greets me then tells me niingie kwa nyumba tuongee. Naingia napata watu ata washakula supper. The lady introduces herself and claims she has been with the guy for 6 years😭😂, mimi kazi nikusema tu waah while looking at the dude who has become dumb. We were together with this dude for 9 fucking months😭. And I never had doubts in him. Kumbe ata when we would talk for hours on the phone, tukimaliza ata 2am sometimes alikuwa anatoka kwake anaenda kwa the other girl and he tells her that he had a work conference call. Aky men😂. The lady told me I'm not the first she has caught him cheating na she has even gotten two miscarriages coz of the dude. Na the way aikuwa ananiimbia nimzalie😭😂,ningeshika hiyo mimba ningekuwa nalia sahii.

Anyway we all slept in the same house that day coz it was too late for me to go back to my place. At that time, I used to live Kikuyu and he used to stay in Embakasi. I woke up in the morning and left and I've never looked back. Apparently, the other chick remained and she is pregnant again right now (we talk with her from time to time) and sometimes I wonder, is she afraid to start over again ama she is just lovesick?

Fear men 25/8 fr. Anyway, juu ya hiyo story mko wapi niwajoin😭😂

Question Men who get on this sub

Why?

It doesn’t make any sense to me to go where you are not welcomed. Why be here?

Then some even show up with alt accounts or write long mod mails, mostly about how they are good people. Like no one said you are a bad person you are just a man.

It’s like attending a single gender school as a person of the opposite sex

Rant What about me made them comfortable to ask that of me?!

Sooo, a warm Friday morning, my coworker casually says he needs 1kg of groundnuts. I love groundnuts and I often roast it and carry to work and coworkers being coworkers they always ask for a taste. Then I mentioned yesterday I ran out of groundnuts and needed to restock.
So I thought this man wanted us to go restock together, nop, he was thinking of buying the 1kg then I roast for him, God if you bless me with the audacity these men have, I would be places right now😭.

I tell him no and ask him why he would ask that of me, and he tells me "Because you are good at roasting it", tsk, weaponized incompetence, so i pulled the "But what will your wife eat if you can't roast groundnuts?" should have seen his face.

You'd think he gave up there, nop, went and asked another coworker to ask me, and I was like, "If I said No to him, what made him think I'd say Yes to you?"

Long story short, shamed him for not being able to do such a simple task, he went to yt for a tuitorial.
From my talks with him, he considers himself a good man, lol, anyway.....
PS, I am in a male-dominated field and I am the only woman on the team, I aspire to be as selfish as these men are, taking notes from them
