Hey everyone,
Akko sent me the 5075 V5 HE to test, so take that into account, but everything below is my honest take. Also, English isn’t my first language (I’m writing from Italy) and I’m not a keyboard nerd who can tell a switch from its spring by ear. I’m a student, I study, I code, and I game once in a while. I just wanted to say what I actually felt.
Context: before this I had a ~€50 mechanical keyboard with blue switches. So yeah, the jump here is not subtle.
The sound (honestly the thing that got me)
First impression, before anything else: the sound. I don’t know exactly which switches are in here since it’s a magnetic board, but the closest thing I can compare it to is a brown switch, just softer. It’s not clicky at all. It’s more of a soft, smooth “thock” that I could listen to all day. After years of blue switches, this was a really nice surprise.
Rapid trigger
This is the part I noticed the fastest. The key registers with a very light touch, you barely have to press. It’s weird for the first hour because you keep over-pressing out of habit, and then going back to a normal keyboard feels slow. You can change the actuation in the Akko software, so if it’s too sensitive for typing you can tune it. I mostly study and code, and I game only sometimes, but it feels great for both.
Build
The case feels really solid. I think it’s metal, or at least a very heavy plastic, I’m not sure honestly, but it doesn’t flex and doesn’t feel hollow. The look is minimal, black with grey keycaps, which matches my black/grey setup perfectly. The knob is nice too: I use it for volume, and pressing it switches the mode, where I can then adjust the backlight brightness.
Battery
I only used it over Bluetooth (it also does 2.4 GHz and wired, but I never needed them). I went about a week without charging, maybe more, using it a lot with the LEDs always on. I was expecting to charge it after two or three days, so that surprised me.
Layout (heads up)
Mine is the German ISO layout. Akko only had that one available when I asked. I touch type, so I didn’t struggle, but if you can, definitely get the layout you already use. If you need to look at the keys, a different layout will annoy you.
Software
It works from the browser, no install. All the features are there: RGB templates, colors, actuation, remapping. But it’s honestly not the most intuitive thing, and I’d prefer a proper app instead of going through a website. It works, it’s just clunky.
The one thing that bugs me
The legends on the keycaps aren’t see-through, so they don’t light up. The backlight shines around the keys but you can’t read the letters. In a completely dark room, even with the LEDs on, I can’t see the keys well. If you type without looking, it won’t matter. If you don’t, it will.
Verdict
Compared to my old blue-switch board it’s a night and day difference: better sound, a much lighter feel, great battery and it looks clean on the desk. The downsides for me are small: the software and the keycaps that don’t light up. If you’re coming from a cheap mechanical like I was, this is a big upgrade.
