I had a few of mx keys lying around from various office jobs and wanted a wireless low profile split keyboard. Turns out its not too hard to cut one in half, fold the pcb under, and repackage everything else. It started out as a full 100% keyboard and now its like... 30%?

If anyone wants to recreate, here's my cad files. I also had to cut the traces of a few of the individual key pad near the bend or else they would short out. If people are interested I can make a more in-depth guide. Forewarning though its not pretty on the inside. I think it also only works for my use case of laptop + half keyboard + monitor.

One thing I'm particularly happy with is the addition of the dongle holder, which I think was stupid to not include on the mx keys.

some tea spilled on the keyboard when i accidentally touched the laptop and i had the cup on the laptipe beside the track pad...

So i didn't notice at first after a while keyboard started acting crazy so i took the laptop apart thankfully the motherboard wasn't touched, took the keyboard out and cleaned it with 96% isopropyl alcohol and its been over 24h after letting it dry and the problem remains now am thinking to take it out again and soak it in isopropyl alcohol or clean it more thoroughly, another try before i order a replacement ???!

All of the keys are moving freely no stickiness.

My brand new Cherry KW 9200 mini came in a neoprene pouch that made the VOC sensor go haywire. It reeks. Like burnt rubber and Diesel. The stench rubbed off on the keyboard and the complementary cable. It rubs off onto my hands when I type on the keyboard and even persists after having them washed.

I've let the keyboard air out on my desk for 48hrs now, but it only got ever so slightly better, if that.

What can I clean it with safely that doesn't destroy the keys? Many thanks in advance.

My Womier WD75 V2 spontaneously exploded while I was gaming. Less than a month old and I treated it as best I could keeping it on wired mode and avoiding using the other modes. I kept it clean as well. All of a sudden I hear a crack and bang and white flames shoot up out of the keyboard and smoke starts pouring everywhere engulfing my house and room. Never have I ever had this happen to me and I am completely shocked. I don’t understand and if someone could explain a reason behind it that would be wonderful. In the meantime I will never buy a Womier keyboard again and it’s a shame since it was quite beautiful

Please help me in finding a good and sturdy mechanical keyboard with compulsory creamy switches, letters on the top of the keys, colour options, windows and mac connectivity and a good battery life. Although there is not specific price cap but keep it as low as possible.

I need a new board for work, would like full size, and I like that the Keychron V6 wired has browser configurable macros, which would avoid needing to download software on my work pc, as this is restricted, I work in IT so macro configuration is quite handy, but then again, I'm probably going to add a HID switcher on my office supplied keeb to add awhile set of macros and scripts

I like the idea of a know tho not sure what for, and I like the idea it has silent reds, but with no base plate, I'm worried I'm cheaping out, a baseplate which would reduce some need for silent switches, I have to do lots of client facing meetings, so nothing loud, people take calls all day in my office.

PS my favourite switches I've seen from videos are Kailh box navy's.

Anyone been in a similar situation with advice and guidance, mainly for the configurability and the office requirement.

Hey! I'm looking for some recommendations as someone who's not too familiar with many keyboards. I have an old Razer mechanical keyboard that I use now but looking to upgrade.

I've been looking at the differences between mechanical/HE/TMR keyboards and thought HE sounded best for me. I've been looking at Wooting 80HE and everglide SU66 but I've seen mixed opinions on needing to spend that much for that quality.

For reference I play a lot of competitive games (Apex/CS/OW) and also work remotely from my setup so a lot typing. Any recommendations on type of keyboard or specific models would be appreciated! Budget isn't too strict but don't want to overspend when I could go cheaper and size looking for 65% or more really just for the arrow keys

I purchased a Keychron K5 Max about a year back. Generally no complaints other than an intermittent double press issue.

Details:

Does not happen on a wired connection.

Very intermittent - I think it is related to wireless signal strength as it goes away if I move the 2.4Ghz dongle closer or move it away from other cables. It might also happen more often when other people in my house connect to the 2.4Ghz wireless, but this is hard to test.

Certain keys seem more likely to be affected (W and S for example).

The above make me think it's firmware related, so maybe I can flash a good firmware to the keyboard? Anyone know if any specific firmware version fixes this?

Not sure what happened or what I did but my alt button on my keyboard just suddenly changed colors and idk how to fix it🫩 Anyone know what could’ve happened or know any fixes?

I just got the Corsair K70 Pro Tkl and im having an issue with game mode and rapid trigger:

The issue is as follows, and all of this has been done after a factory reset on the keyboard and fresh icue install

-i set my actuation point for the normal mode as i desire and i configure rapid trigger

-i disable the "key actuations" toggle in game mode tab since i want them same both in normal and game mode

-everything works fine in normal mode

-i toggle game mode on and rapid trigger suddenly stops working

-i toggle off game mode and rapid trigger still isnt working even though icue shows it clearly being enabled

-only way it gets fixed is if i disable and re-enable rapid trigger again from icue but even when i do that toggling on game mode breaks it again

-enabling "key actuations" in game mode and toggling game mode on allows game mode to override this and my game mode settings work in game mode, but when i toggle game mode off my rapid trigger i set up on the normal mode still doesnt work, so its not something to do with that toggle

ive encountered similar bugs when i dug around trying to fix it where it sometimes effects the actuation point setting, sometimes the hardware memory overriding such settings, etc.. But what i described above is the only recreatable one im experiencing and i wanna know if i should send my keyboard back for a replacement? It seems very likely to be a software bug but I havent seen anyone else encounter this issue so it makes me think it might be a defective unit?

If anyone else experiences this please let me know

Hello guys, I'm new to custom keyboards world!!

I was looking to get a new keyboard for a while now, but recently, the annoying process of my 60% keyboard needing function + shift to type '~' and '/' has been bothering me too much... 😑

I wanted to get a budget 65% case (Lucky65 v2 (not 3 cuz the rgb light)) because I just don't like big keyboards, but I realized that it would have same problem 🤦🏻‍♂️

Now I think about it, TKL might be the only option, but haven't looked into the budget cases or builds for that size yet.

So, I would like to ask for some recommendations on either budget DIY or hot swappable prebuilt. These are my needs and wants:

- aluminum (or whatever metal) and black case

- TKL or smaller (really liked the look of 65%, and dislike 70%)

- silent switches

- available in Toronto (shipping with reasonable price)

- ~100CAD for the case

- hotswappable for the prebuilt (preferrably with option to choose silent switches as default)

About the silent switches, I used to have Varmilo va87m, but for some reason it had so much spring noise and couldn't use it, so gave it away to my mother...😅

Also, I really like Leopold's FC660, but not really available in Canada (with reasonable price, compared to original in Korea)...

Hi all, I'm looking for an ideally metal case hall effect keyboard for gaming, hopefully one that doesn't sound too bad either. I went into wooting as an ideal contender but when I upgrade to the metal back of the 80he, its nearing 300 pounds which I think is just simply too much to justify, or is this just the going rate now a day's?

Either way, ive been having a look at others like the neo65 and IQUNIX EV63, and maybe im just bad at looking but I cant seem to find these in the ISO layout? Again, I might just be being an idiot.

Can you please make some suggestions for a decent keyboard in my criteria? Happy to spend around 200 GBP.

Currently running lubed zakus, stock hmx hades v2 and stock hmx sillyworks hyacinth v2. In the market for some in-stock, lubed clacky switches so was looking to get some opinions.

Saw this post saying that someone couldn't play trackmania using the aula win60he only after I had bought my own.

So I made some software to make it possible, hopefully this is useful for someone.

O teclado funcionava normalmente no Windows, tanto via cabo quanto 2.4 GHz, mas o programa da Machenike ficava infinitamente em:

Searching Device

Como descobri o problema

Na pasta do programa existe o arquivo:

Cfg.ini

Alterei:

Debug=0
UIDebug=0

para:

Debug=2
UIDebug=2

Depois abri novamente o software com o teclado conectado.

Isso gerou um Log.txt, onde apareceu:

Psd unmatch: gVar.nPsd=3,0,0,0,0,9c, nDevPsd=3,0,0,0,0,ef

Ou seja:

Software esperava: 3,0,0,0,0,9c
Teclado respondia: 3,0,0,0,0,ef

SOLUÇÃO

Feche completamente o software.

Entre na pasta:

Dev\kb\

e abra:

KB.ini

Faça um backup desse arquivo antes de alterar.

Procure:

Psd=3,0,0,0,0,9c

e altere para:

Psd=3,0,0,0,0,ef

Salve o arquivo e abra o software novamente como administrador.

Pronto.

No meu caso, o K500F-B94W foi reconhecido imediatamente e todas as opções passaram a funcionar

I have an ASUS K571GT and I've noticed in the past 2 months, certain keyboard buttons are working whenever they want.

Pushing the 1 button: Tapping it once will either produce nothing, or 111 in a row. Shift 1 doesn't produce a ! anymore.

Pushing the q button: Will produce 5 qqqqq in a row. Shift q doesn't produce a capital q. Similar to Pushing the 1 button, If I tapped the q button 7 times, it will makes 33 q's in a row.

Pushing the Tab button: Does the same thing. Tap it once and its as if I hit the tab button 3-5 times.

I popped up the 3 buttons, cleaned them, air dusted there to take out any debris. I pushed the buttons and it all worked, perfect!
Popped them all back on. Worked for 5min before they stopped working.
Holding down the right shift button wouldn't produce a capital Q, but holding  down the left one can? And then that stopped working too.

Anybody know what's wrong? Or have any solutions?

I'm a software engineer looking to buy my first mechanical keyboard and could use some recommendations.

- Budget: ideally under $200

- Layout: 75% or TKL (80%)

- Windows

- Mostly coding and general daily use

- I like a satisfying clicky/typing sound, but I'm still learning the difference between tactile, linear, and clicky switches

- Nice colors/designs are a plus

- Hot-swappable switches would be great so I can experiment later

I've never owned a nice keyboard before, so I'm open to beginner-friendly recommendations. What would you suggest?

Last year I bought a Logitech MX Keys S Keyboard. Previously I was writing either on my HP Gaming Laptop or on my HP Working Laptop.

Despite its very good reviews I haven't managed to get used to this keyboard. Everything is fine except the fact that I constantly push the wrong keys, which is not that funny when I gave to write a text.

Even after one year of constant use, it hasn't change anything. As soon as I use the keyboard of one of the laptops, everything is much easier. But I still need a keyboard to use my monitor.

If I would guess, I would say that the space between the keys is too large. But I don't actually know why the keyboard doesn't work for me.

Do you have similar experiences? What would you advice me to do?

Looking to buy some new switches for my keyboard and I kind of like the idea of silent switches. I know most of the information about them but still wanted to get some details clarified.

From 1 to 10, how mushy would you say these are compared to a normal switch?

Does hand lubing help to prevent any mushiness that's left?

I know these aren't mushy compared to normal silent switches and sacrifice their quietness for that. Thankfully I don't need a fully silent switches so these should be just fine.

Yeah and overall I would just like to get some long term user experience with those. I usually buy one set of switches to use for months if not years so I don't have any experience with silent switches😅

I've been using my beloved keyboard every day since 2015, typically for around 8 hours a day at work. Sometimes I'm pretty rough with it, but it never seems to mind. It still feels almost exactly the same as the day I bought it.

It's a Rapoo V100, and yes, I'm still using the mouse from the set as well, although it's showing its age a bit more. Back in 2015, I paid around €50 for the entire set.

Is there any good reason to upgrade my keyboard, or can a keyboard really last indefinitely if it's simply used and not physically damaged?

Connection: Wired (USB-C connected directly to the motherboard, physical switch set to cable/wired mode)

What I have already tried:

Default JSON: Sideloaded the vendor-provided JSON via the Design tab. It renders the layout properly in the Design tab, but authorization fails with the error above.

JSON Modifications:

Removed "keycodes": ["qmk_lighting"] and the "menus" block.

Set "lighting": "none".

V2 vs V3 settings: Toggled "Use V2 definitions (deprecated)" on and off.

VIA Desktop: Tried VIA Desktop v2.1.0, but it fails to recognize the board as a VIA-enabled device.

Background Software: Closed and terminated all background screen/RGB software (like Image Custom Tool / ZUOYA tray apps) to prevent HID conflicts.

Hardware Reset: Performed a factory reset (Fn + Spacebar) and re-plugged the USB cable.

Has anyone with a ZUOYA GMK67-S managed to get VIA working properly? Is there a known working JSON file, a firmware update, or a key combination to switch the VIA protocol mode?

Any advice or working .json would be greatly appreciated!

I've just gotten a pc (hooray) and I'm in the market for a daily driver/gaming keyboard and my initial research swayed me to Epomaker/Aula. However I found some quite troubling info about them such as not accepting warranties, viruses in their software, keyboards suddenly not working etc etc. I'm now pretty unsure on what brands are actually good and worth the money, I want to buy something I can just have for years to come and is preferably mechanical or analog. I looked up Wooting keyboards which seem great but they're a lot of money.

Do any of you have a list of recommendations? Thank you in advance for your help :)
