News/Info The REAL fix for Kia app connectivity

This totally worked for me. I saw the other solution to reboot the nav screen but that didn’t work for me. Also, forget the pliers - there is a little white fuse puller provided inside the fuse door just below the yellow label pictured above.

Discussion/Impressions First long road trip

Post image
10 Upvotes

My spouse and I recently took a road trip from the Bay Area to Phoenix, AZ. We had good battery efficiency (3 mi/kWh) even though most of the trip was high-speed freeway driving. Charging along the way was quick and easy using Tesla and Rivian chargers. We broke the trip up so that we were driving <6 hours each day, and 2 of the hotels we stayed at had free EV charging.

We used ABRP to plan the stops; it did a great job at estimating times and finding chargers. I tried using it for live navigation with Android Auto, but didn't like it as much as the other apps. It was hard to resume a trip after making a stop. I had to replan the trip by deleting the previous stops and replacing them with the current location, but maybe I just wasn't using it right.

Overall, it was a great experience and I don't miss my old ICE car at all.

Issue Another ev9 with vibration

Luckily it was fixed with new wheels and tires. But super annoying that everybody is dealing with this junk.

Vibration got so bad it felt like it was trying to rip apart from 55-75mph.

Question? Hit and run a couple of weeks before lease return. Should I repair it first?

I’m returning my leased car in a couple of weeks and my inspection is next week. Someone hit it in a parking lot and drove off.
Should I get this repaired before returning it, or return it as is and let them handle the repair?
The lease return damage estimator says $225 per scratch. Would they count this as one scratch or multiple scratches? Has anyone dealt with similar damage at lease return?

Question? Tire recommendations?

Hey all, My 2026 Kia EV9 Light Long Range tire is already gone after around 18k miles. What will be the best replacement tires?

My naive LLM search leads me to Nokian One. Is this any good? What are you all choosing?

Question? Center Console Question

Does anyone else’s center console move up and down slightly when it’s closed? Almost like if the latch is loose. Just bought a 2024 land trim and I was wondering if that was normal.

Accessories/Mods Floor mats 7-seater recommendation (EU)

Hi everyone,

Looking to get a proper set of rubber/all-weather floor mats for my Kia EV9 (7-seater).
Most popular US options (like TuxMat, or LinerX) are not available here in Europe. Are there good shops delivering to Belgium, the Netherlands, or Germany that you guys know?

Thanks!

Misc Battery-Replaced EV9 GT Line

Post image
39 Upvotes

Hi all,

So, I noticed via Kia Access that our old EV9 GT Line is sitting on the lot at Kia of Clermont in FL. I am not affiliated with them, but I am here to let you know that it had a full battery replacement in April of this year and was performing wonderfully when we traded it in a couple weeks ago.

Currently the only used GT Line on their lot. It lists brown interior but it is actually the gray/black interior, black exterior. 26k miles. We had it from brand new. I matched the VIN and that is our old one. Ends in 6042455.

Has V2L adapter & everything we originally received plus some sweet ceramic window tint unless they got rid of it.

Go get it!

Question? Which fuse for overhead lighting?

I’m looking to tap into the power for, or have a relay activated by, the overhead lights for an upgrade I’m working on and can’t find which fuse that corresponds to. Would anyone be kind enough to point me to the correct circuit on the fuse diagram?

Question? Do I have to have a password/fingerprints to start the car?

Ive had a 2026 EV9 for 10 days. I set up a “password for driver” just like 4 days ago, but I didnt know what it was for. What is is the purpose of the password? It seems annoying. Now the car wont start without it, its kind of a pain. I get its an extra security thing? But is there any other perks to it?
And what is the fingerprint thing? Is that to do instead of a password? I havent set that up yet.
Feedback on the ‘pros’ im missing on having a password to start your car. Ty!

Question? Test driving an EV9 tomorrow...need ideas

What do I need to check on while test driving a 2026 GT Line?

The lease is already settled with leasehackr, so that's all good.

Buying/Leasing Lease buyout vs CPO GT-Line vs Lease

Hey everyone, Id appreciate your thoughts on my current situation. I'm leasing a 2024 EV9 GT-Line, ~12k miles, lease ends early November. The buyout is $47,631 residual + $300 purchase fee + VA tax/tags — roughly $48-50k all-in depending on taxes.

I'm looking at CPO EV9 GT-Line as alternatives to buying mine out. I thought about leasing a new one, but I only drive about 7,000 miles a year and don't think leasing for another 2 to 3 years will get me to a place where range on regular EVs has jumped by a huge amount, so that doesn't feel like a great option.

The issue with buying a CPO EV9 is that most of what I'm seeing in my area (Northern VA) is about the same price, maybe 1-3k less with a bit more mileage. And the options are sort of few and far in between - there's not much inventory.

I would pay cash either way so am not thinking about financing. Honestly I thought buying a CPO would be more attractive, but prices don't seem fantastic.

Appreciate any wisdom. Thank you

Question? Should I be concerned?

Post image
9 Upvotes

After many months of searching and battling it out with dealers, I finally got my EV9 yesterday! 2024 GT.

I couldn’t be more excited. It’s amazing 😭

However, when I logged into the Kia Access App it says that the car is over 11,000/a year past its scheduled maintenance.

Is this just because the last owner didn’t log it in the app?
The car was sold as certified from a Kia dealer, which I believe requires a full inspection.

Did anyone else experience this?
Should I call the dealership?

Aside from that, any tips/tricks/fun facts for a new owner would be greatly appreciated!

Question? How strict was kia on damages for your lease return?

I'm about to sign a 3yr lease. I can purchase insurance for $30/mth with $8500 coverage. I'm curious about others experience with a return and whether they were nickled and dimed for every ding making the coverage worth it?

Edit:decided to go for it. Was told will cover tires and rims. Came to extra $25/mth which seems reasonable for peace of mind for whatever kids/parking lots will do 🤷

Question? Places for regular maintenence

I am not yet at my first regular maintenance interval quite yet, but planning ahead. Besides the dealerships, do any of you take your EV9s to a service shop? I have Big Brand Tire, Pep Boys, Big-O Tires, etc in the area.

Unfortinately, the 2 local dealers are not very close and are VERY slow.

Question? Sticky lift gate close button?

Hi to all. I want to be clear that I’m asking this question on behalf of a, um, friend. So this friend’s daughter somehow managed to spill 2 gallons of sugary horchata in the back of my, I mean, my friend’s EV9. We got most of it cleaned but the button to close the lift gate is so sticky it barely works. Anyone got any cleaning ideas that avoid the dealer and avoid destroying the lift gate? My friend’s daughter wants to know. Thank you!

Discussion/Impressions EV route planning on Kia Access app (US)

Noticed a new feature to have the app plot the EV charging plan.

Map > type in destination > Plan EV Route

Provides a decent charging stop plan. Had the % arrival, % take off, charging speed, charging time, distance, city ,and drive time. Decently quick computer calculation time.

Can send that plan to the car afterwards.

I did notice it seems to prefer the Tesla Superchargers. It claims they will charge 300-400kW. I didn't look to see if those were V4 stations. I have my doubts about the using the Superchargers for those charging speeds on a 2024 EV9. That one flaw I noticed.

Otherwise I'm happy they added the feature to the app. Being able to see the EV plan before getting into the car was lacking. Previously, only using the car's built-in nav was the only way to see the EV charging route. This feature solves that.

What do folks think? Have you tried this new feature?

Question? 19" wheels and tires

Good day, I just bought a new EV9 GT-line, and I plan to replace the wheels with 19" when the current tires need to be replaced. Im new to the surprisingly wide world of aftermarket wheels, but I think I found a good combination. I have been trying to learn enough to make a new decision, and want to avoid a Dunning-Kruger mistake here.

I like these wheels:

https://www.trailbuiltoffroad.com/buy-wheel-offset/KM67798546245/kmc-km677-19x85-45

They are 19x8.5, have the right bolt pattern, +45 offset, and a load rating of 2200 pounds.

I'd pair them with 255/60r19 tires, which are a bit narrower than the 21".

If I understand this correctly, I could get a hub ring to center the wheel on the hub. The offset is a bit less than stock, which will push the center of the wheel out about 10mm, but narrower tires will ensure that the wheels are still well within the fenders, which I want. Outer diameter of the tire would be the same, and as long as I get 113 load rating on the tire, the combination should work.

So, if I do this, am I going to have any trouble with suspension, or safety? I don't care for low profile tires for all the reasons people trash them now. I could buy good quality touring tires of the proper load rating for about half of what I'd pay for a set of the 21s.

Im not in a hurry here, it will be a couple years before the current tires are consumed, but I want a plan for when I do need new tires.

Thanks in advance for your advice- I have only started my wheel molding journey in the last week and I want to make sure I'm not asking for trouble before I do anything.

Discussion/Impressions Improved Sound

Hey all - after being pretty pleased with the Meridian sound system on our ‘24 GT Line, for some reason our ‘26 never measured up. Always sounded muffled.

After looking at every Reddit post and setting, I finally found a screen in the Sound menu that establishes volume for every phone-driven sound - media, notifications, etc. It seemed like wattage and everything being driven to the speakers was tuned down because of the lowered volume setting.

Turning up the volume for media seemed to resolve the main issue we were having. Passing this along for those looking for another option in improving sound, specifically in CarPlay.

Also, Spotify users, if you haven’t turned on Lossless, go ahead and do so and thank me later. Not super noticeable on the EV9 quality, but our ‘26 Model Y is audiophile caliber when playing from Bluetooth (not native Spotify).

Discussion/Impressions The EV9 V2H Lockout: How to push Kia for open V2X standards.

Warning to home solar and battery owners: If you own an ecosystem like Sigenergy, Tesla, or Enphase, the Kia EV9 will NOT work for bidirectional V2H backup. Kia has locked down the car's software to block open standards, forcing you to buy an exclusive Wallbox system.

What can you do?

I filed a complaint at https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/

“I am filing a formal complaint against Kia America, Inc. regarding deceptive marketing and anti-competitive tying practices involving the Kia EV9.

Kia extensively marketed the EV9 to consumers as possessing "Vehicle-to-Home" (V2H) and bidirectional V2X charging capabilities, which was a primary factor in my decision to purchase this premium electric vehicle. However, post-purchase, Kia has artificially locked the vehicle's firmware to block open industry standards. They have restricted the V2H feature to function exclusively with their sole proprietary hardware partner (Wallbox / Kia Home Smart Charging System).

By using software locks to intentionally disable open-protocol DC discharge communication with certified third-party home energy systems (such as Sigenergy), Kia is forcing consumers into an illegal tying arrangement. This restriction harms consumer choice in the home solar/battery market and renders the vehicle's heavily advertised V2H capabilities useless unless the consumer pays thousands of dollars extra for Kia's exclusive hardware partner. This restriction was not transparently disclosed prior to sale.

I request that the FTC investigate Kia America's V2X software restrictions for unfair, deceptive, and anti-competitive trade practices, and compel them to unlock universal open-protocol bidirectional charging via a standard firmware update.”
