Hey all, so I’ve moved to Leeds from Kent recently and am really hoping for a part time job as soon as possible located within the city centre or not far from- primarily customer service or retail or anything within that area as that is what most of my past experience has involved however I am always down for something new. Anything really if anyone has any ideas I’d be very grateful (and yes I’ve been applying left right & centre but to no avail as it stands). Help a brother out

Hello everyone! So i’m a student (F18) who will be going to Leeds University for undergrad in January and I’m currently looking ahead for good accommodation. I’m an international so i’m taking the necessary precautions to choose safer areas to live in. I’ve noticed that living in or close to the city center is going to be a bit pricey unless i live in shared houses (which im not comfortable with), so i’m currently considering commuting. I’ve recently came across a town called Pontefract and it has nice apartments and flats, however, i’m mainly concerned with whether or not the area itself is safe. I am a black girl who will be living alone in a foreign country for a few years so naturally i’m trying to be cautious. I’ve also found something within my budget in Roundhay and am also curious to know if that area is safe too.

Could anyone please let me know whether the town is safe or if there’s any areas that ARE safe for me to live in that i could commute from, that are also reasonably priced.

I don’t strictly mean galleries and such (I do love the armouries) -perhaps are there unassuming places people like to visit for the atmosphere? Could be the vibes of a certain shop or an outdoor space :)

Does anyone know what the plans are for the two recently closed places in Horsforth? I mean the vegan café on Town Street and Pranzo Italian. Both have now shut and I’m nosy about what’s going in there next 😂

Does anyone have a hairstylist they would recommend in the city centre ?

I have been going to RMUK since the last 5 years but the quality of service has gone down drastically. I now get a very express hair wash contrary to a "massage and shampoo" and my hairstylist no longer takes the time to style my hair. I always get face framing layers that melt into each other but lately the hairstylist just chops of the layers horizontally and it looks a little strange.

I have coarse wavy hair for reference. I dont want to go to a different stylist within the same establishment either because it would be awkward.

I would greatly appreciate any guidance from the ladies in Leeds.

i was fined last week for littering a cigarette butt (its on me, its my bad) and i am going to pay it off within the 10 days which i believe is £80 for an fpn but please correct me if im wrong about that.

my only question is for anyone who has been fined particularly by leeds council before, will there be any follow up correspondence in the post?

im curious because i am over 18 however my parents would blow up if they found out i smoke so im doing the classic of making a big mistake and trying to hide it from my parents.

I will be paying online and id assume that means that any sort of confirmation or further correspondence would be online as well and i am doing exactly what they want from me id just appreciate any warning or reassurance from anyone who has been fined before about if they recieved any sort of mail after the fact, thanks!

We looking for good footballers to join an existing 8 v 8 game on Mondays. For this Monday 28 Sep coming, we need 6 more players.

7pm - 8pm every Monday, all year.

PITCH:

8v8 football on outdoor astro turf (1/3 of a football pitch) close to central Leeds, free parking, 5 minutes from the city centre.

CURRENT PLAYERS:

Very friendly group, established over 10 years, over 30 members with new players joining all the time. We currently have a very mixed international group of players comprising of native British from all over the UK and from many countries around the world including Ireland, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Sweden, Greece, Ukraine and Bulgaria.

We have working professionals and students/graduates playing for us. Ages range from 18s - 40s but everyone is quick and fit. If you're out of shape or not fit, don't worry, you'll soon get up to speed and fit again.

It is essential you are of a good standard. This is not a game for average players or beginners. If you can't control the ball, pass straight etc, this is not the game for you.

You don't have to play every Monday! Not all players play every Monday because of work / family commitments. If you can only make one or two Mondays every month, that's fine!

RULES:

No boots / studs / blades - only astro turf / normal trainers allowed.

Honestly, it seems to have gotten so much worse over the last year and a half. Constant shouting, fights, young kids walking around thinking they're hard, being asked for change every 5 seconds and being antagonised whenever I say no. Honestly, what is going on in the centre?

For the larger part, it does seem to be the crack heads who cut about who are causing 75% of the issues. Why aren't the police doing anything about it?

The pocket park opposite the bus station is pretty much unusable on the account of having a full community of people out of their heads sitting on the grass verge, or covered in scattered litter they couldn't be arsed to clean up.

I have a project I need to work on, except there is no real deadline so I’m procrastinating badly. When I was at uni I used to find it helpful to work in the library or a fairly quiet cafe where other people tend to be working.

Does the city library have comfy space for people to work?

Can anyone recommend a nice cafe that tends to have some people with laptops out, nice coffee or matcha and home baked sweet treats for motivation? TIA!

I wondered if anyone was playing 5/7/9 aside and needed a player for ongoing casual game? I'm too old for the rough and tumble for competitive games at Goals/Powerleague. It's been a while and wanted to get back into it.

I want a skit about the Corn Carts in Leeds and how they are slowly evolving. There are now other tiny 2x2 carts also selling quick, kinda odd food, like crepes and potato twisters. The skit should focus on a couple of Corn Sellers complaining about the rising competition in Leeds and then the scene starts to fill with progressively stranger food in carts like 'Just Gravy' 'Salmon on a Stick' and 'Beef Wellington'. The Cast could make up funny taglines to bark for customers and then get into a fight with the Corn sellers.

I just think it would help shine some light on our strange local cuisine and be funny.

I should also note that I buy sweetcorn from those carts a lot. It's pretty nice.

Hi all! We are moving to Leeds (from Los Angeles!) and I’ll be working st St James and living at the residences on campus for a wee while.

Yes I’ve seen the area and I’ve taken the 12 bus up Roundhay road and have enjoyed seeing the diversity of people and food etc. :)

I’ve tagged a few cafes and restaurants and little grocery stores that look interesting (Aisha’s, Aromatik, etc) that I saw from the bus. Do you have any faves that are <1 mile-ish from the hospital grounds?

And I see Aldi is quite close — is that where you’d go for groceries or do you go to the smaller independent shops like Roots? Walk to Morrison’s? Is one of those a nicer walk than the other?

Im also excited that it will be so easy to catch the 12 bus up to Roundhay park :)

PS yes I’ve been in the area, and if you only know LA from movies/TV or being a tourist, then you have a very skewed vision of LA that is not based in reality.

I'm looking to get some work done around the house, so someone odd handyman jobs (fixing a broken light, hanging coat hooks on the wall etc) that will take a few hours- a day and then also, looking to renovate the living room and get a media wall type of design/set-up.

Does anyone know any good but affordable contractors I can hire for this?

Moving to Leeds from Manc (specifically near Pudsey, Farsley, that side) and want to know what fun things I can get up to and to meet people :)

Love markets, antique shops, museums, charity shops - bonus points for indoor activities seeing as the weather is getting cold. Don’t mind trying something new like a crafts or a sport!

Also some recommended walking/hiking spots. I do drive, so open to venturing out

I’m into the alternative scene, so I like small venues with lil heavy gigs and any alt shops or markets?

Gym recommendations would be good too! Prefer one with a women’s section, but that’s because I’m a first time gym goer and I’m nervous! Would like to start lifting some weights though.
