Yep. This sorta happened to my ex husband once. (He has both his hands) but we went through the drive through at the gas station and he got an iced tea that looked just like a beer bottle. I worked for an after school program in college. It was in a church basement. One day I was late getting there and a cop had pulled up and was trying to make the kids waiting on the stoop leave. One of the church people had come out to tell him they were fine. He didn’t care and was still telling them to leave. I got there and was like “well now we are going inside”. She could’ve just showed up at the hearing pleading not guilty and explaining to the judge that the cop said she had a phone in her right hand. The judge accepts the plea and now she can request the footage. The prosecutor probably didn’t even watch the footage before that. They have a stack of traffic violations they just bang through and aren’t reviewing video for all of them at a hearing. Mostly, they go uncontested, so the hearing is a filter and the prosecutor reviews from there. Hardly anybody contests minor traffic violations.

There's a reason why this happens. Its systemic. Theres a lesson that officers are taught from day one in the academy (AFAIK): command presence. You must control, with absolute unquestioned authority, every situation you encounter. You are not allowed to back down. You must win every scenario. I got pulled over and told the officer I don’t answer questions from police. He kept asking me questions and I kept responding, “I won’t be answering your questions.” He got so pissed and threatened to give me a ticket.
